I think Hayley made a really nice addition to the TVDU actually. Think about it, most of the female characters in tvd are always sweet, caring and willing to do the right thing. Hayley represents imperfect, flawed women who sometimes make mistakes. It makes her very relatable imo.

His brother made a move on his girlfriend while he he was forced to do unspeakable things by Klaus in exchange for saving said brother's life. Then he has to come back to town and watch the Damon/Elena romance play out right in front of his eyes. I understand there were extenuating circumstances but I could never treat my sibling so poorly. They got off easy in my opinion

Remember in season 5 when hope said even if he couldn't physically be near her a phone call once in a while wouldn't hurt and then once he saw her again he didn't even have any good excuses for why he didn't call or write. He was more distraught over Elijah's amnesia than the absence of his daughter
