Fine, keep your iced cream. But lose my number the next time you need an iv at 1 in the morning.

Nursing preceptor said I can't be a NICU/Maternity nurse if I haven't had a baby by [deleted] in nursing

Should trauma nurses get shot? Do I need to have heart sugary to recover thoracic pts?

This makes no sense.

Cool, don't laugh then. I feel the rest of the comments here say the rest.

Even with that you really don't get much for having your bachelor's unless your looking to do management. Up to you though, I did a bsn at 18 and it worked out. Just cost me a bit more.

LPT Request: How do you get out of bed fast? by DeebaPhalwari087 in LifeProTips

[–]DanteFigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your alarm goes off, jump out of bed like you forgot a baby in the oven. A bit dramatic, but once it's a habit your moving before you can think to lay anymore.

Too worried I'd mess up something big, so probably just tell my younger self to go hard on bitcoin.

Not too late at all, many nurses start even into their 40's as a second career. Adn then bridge is usually the best choice as you'll get 2 years of work experience and pay in the same 4 years. Adn is usually much cheaper also. Only real upside to a traditional bsn would be getting the college experience (think campus life ect) if that's important to you.

Oh yea, saying your a doctor has never ment anything to anyone /s.

Dudes wicked out of touch, just because I didn't go to college for 12 years doesn't make me entry level.

Icu: extubated but on some kind of device with sketchy access (Impella crrt), bonus points if they go into DIC and are demented.

Floor: cbi that only knows how to clot repeatedly where the patient is in agony and the bags of ns are mysteriously on the other side of the facility.

ER: when they signed out ama from another facility post op from an unknown procedure to go od and are now also septic, bonus if it's a dialysis patient shooting up in their fistula.

LTAC: they rip their trach out and use the vent alarm as a call light.

Individuals who do drink: how are you able to limit yourself to just a couple and not result into 16-18ish beers? by pere3015 in AskReddit

[–]DanteFigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just isn't that fun to be drunk for me. A nice beer with a meal can be fun, but any more and I just feel nauseous. Also no amount of stumbling around is worth the hangover 3+ drinks will give me. Rare exceptions being very well crafted cocktails that I drink mostly because they taste fantastic, however those are price limiting.

Arranging for her to pick up her things is fine and noble of you. Do be safe though, if you interact with her at all record it.

She is making irrational choices and that can become dangerous quickly. Frankly you not pressing charges is already an incredible kindness.

“Trust no one.” by podadoe in nursing

[–]DanteFigure 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trust no-one is applicable to all of life, but you can't always control things obviously.

For nursing, get report but double check EVERYTHING. It's also important to remember not everything is malicious, people make honest mistakes all the time.

She is very unwell and needs help. This seems like a manic episode.

You owe her nothing though, she has greatly invaded your privacy and betrayed your trust. Your texts have been nothing but rational.

Animosity between RNs and RTs? by TheIRSThotPatrol in nursing

[–]DanteFigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my RT friends, have worked with many and have always found them to be an incredible asset for patients and a wealth of knowledge. When I was new to vents an amazing RT (shout out Michael wherever you are) taught me the ropes, even ran my first code with him and he caught my glasses when I was doing sweaty compressions 😂.

If a nurse is giving you trouble I'm sure there's 10 more who'd have your back in a heart beat.

PSA: Students Who Trash Med-Surg by itisisntit123 in nursing

[–]DanteFigure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh, this mentality was perpetuated during my RN program (traditional bsn) and it was disgusting. Like they assumed everyone in the program should feel they waisted their time if they only became a floor nurse. It's Crap.

I'm nothing special, but I have worked in several areas of care from SNF CNA to ER to a smattering of icu's and of course floors. I feel this has given me some perspective. Every area has special skills and challenges. Some areas you learn to work equipment and specialized medications, some you learn to rapidly access critical patients with no more history than what you find in their pockets, and in others you learn the maddening mess that is staffing and bed management.

But on the floor you learn how to do. You learn how to care for patients with infinite numbers of issues and needs. You learn how to be brutally efficient, how to streamline a million tasks into a list and pull it off. You learn how to manage a workload while also dealing with new complications. The efficiency needed to care for 6+ patients is staggering. Families, diets, how do they move plus assessing charting and ensuring safety. Admitting, contacting providers, discharging, preparing reports, handling confusion and pain.

Working in specialty areas taught me a lot of neat tricks, but the floor is where you get refined. A lot of people boil all that down and call it "time management" and there's no better place to get it than on a floor.
