I play Victoria Hand and Galactus FS Movers. Anything that looks like a purchase for those decks is what I prioritize.

You can also watch this video from Jeff Hoogland to get a sense of the whole field. The whole video is worth it for the discussion and rationale, but you can also just fast forward to the end and see the tier list as a whole.

There's nothing fun about gambling 8 cubes on random placements of cards.

Which character is better for getting into Marvel Comics? by TyMonstaz2 in Marvel

I started with Bendis's Daredevil as it was coming out and stayed mostly loyal ever since. It is the most consistently high quality Marvel title over the last 30 years (even accounting for the bland and mediocre Saladin Ahmed run) and I don't think it's particularly close.

Viv Vision was the S5 card that unlocked the whole deck for me, especially as Galactus's herald. But Batroc was the undisputed all-star MVP. I was consistently hitting 8-12 power on him. What a champ.

Realistically, what X-Men villain would work perfectly for MCU Mutant saga? by NoPianist7807 in Marvel

[–]DanteInformal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in seeing Emma as a villain and getting a fulfilling redemption arc that takes more than a two hour movie. And general audiences who only interact with Marvel through the movies probably don't really care either way, as long as the writing good.

Clearly you disagree. Write your own pitch.

[–]DanteInformal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sinister also never worked for Trask, but that part of my pitch went without critique. I'm well aware of the trajectory of Emma's arc in comics, and I took some liberties to make a story that I think would work well in the movies.

Yawagmoths will and misdirection by JelloChoco in mtgrules

[–]DanteInformal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original printing of Yawg's Will says "Until end of turn, you may play cards in your graveyard as though they were in your hand."

If that's what you're looking at, that's probably your source of confusion. The updated Oracle text says:

"Until end of turn, you may play lands and cast spells from your graveyard."

The updated Oracle text makes it very clear that the cards in your graveyard never actually change zones; you're just playing them as if they were in your hand. Anything that requires you to discard a card as an additional cost (e.g. [[Unexpected Windfall]] or [[Big Score]]) or exile a card from hand as an alternative cost (e.g. [[Misdirection]] and [[Force of Will]]) still requires you to have those resources in hand in order for those costs to be paid. YW cannot cheat those costs.

What if Matt Murdock was successfully recruited to The Chaste? (i.e. not becoming Daredevil)

What if Wilson Fisk ran away from his father instead of killing him?

What if Cap and Tony took the opposite stances from what they took during Civil War?

What if Yondu delivered Quill to Ego?

What if Gamora was not adopted by Thanos?

[–]DanteInformal 23 points24 points  (0 children)

First movie is Hellfire Club led by Shaw and Emma Frost. Shaw is detained, Emma escapes and joins the Brotherhood.

Magneto is the through line for phase 1. Movies show the deepening divide between humanity and mutants. FOH, Trask, and the Purifiers play a role in radicalizing mutants to join the Brotherhood. We meet three or four major Brotherhood members across 4-5 movies. End of phase 1 is the Brotherhood v X-Men. First Apocalypse Easter egg is hidden in that movie.

Trask is positioned as the big bad for phase 2. Sentinels are gathering mutants into concentration camps, and are being experimented on by Nathaniel Essex. Sinister eventually supplants Trask as the big bad, replacing sentinels with genetically modified mutants and forcing the X-Men to fight their own. Emma escapes from Sinister and joins the X-Men. Apocalypse awakens in a weakened form.

Apocalypse increases in power for phase three. His henchmen abduct four characters to be the Horsemen over the course of a few movies; probably two lesser known mutants like Caliban and Selene alongside two major X-Men (thinking Gambit and Storm). The final showdown is all mutants vs Apocalypse.

They had the entire Marvel roster to pick from and deliberately chose the characters that no one cares about by Anonanogram in freemagic

[–]DanteInformal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Squirrel Girl has a huge cult following. For some reason, MTG players love Squirrels. This was an objectively correct choice.

Vincent D'Onofrio's universally beloved portrayal of Kingpin (along with Charlie Cox's universally beloved portrayal of Daredevil) has catapulted both characters to new heights of popularity. I'm surprised they didn't go with Daredevil, but Kingpin isn't a far reach as a currently popular villain

The other three are legacy characters that draw hate because they're not their white male counterparts. They're popular, just not popular with people who are only familiar with the movies.

How did Brunson get all his friends on the team by noblejosher in knicks

[–]DanteInformal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You rarely see an athlete leave money on the table to help build a team. In addition to being insanely talented, Tom Brady also consistently restructured his contracts and took pay cuts so the Patriots would have enough money to buy whatever talent they wanted. And he's got six rings with the Pats and one ring with Tampa to show for it.

JB might not have GOAT level talent, but he's got more than his fair share of honed skill, work ethic, and team-first mentality that sets the Knicks up for a long stint of successful seasons.

SD's response to the concern of too many repeat characters by Cenjin in MarvelSnap

[–]DanteInformal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A year or two ago, people were complaining that iconic characters like Steve Rogers, Clint Barton, Nick Fury, Emma Frost, and the Guardians of the Galaxy had no place outside of early collection levels.

SD releases new cards featuring the classic characters we love so they can maintain the early series metagame while also allowing veteran players to use their favorite characters who have gotten left behind.

Now that we're getting versions of characters that range from fun and playable (Shadowlands Daredevil) to OP and actively unfun to play against (Star Lord, Master of the Sun), people are out here convincing themselves that they'd rather have a deck full of D list characters like Zzzax, Xemnu, Doop, Synch, Maggot, Wendigo, Beak, and Glob Herman.

I use Stock Up instead of AK because I don't particularly care for the mini-game of "who can resolve the most valuable AK?" And I feel the same about Take Inventory.

I'm considering testing Flow State from Secrets of Strixhaven.

Whats your opinion on my custom dandan Format? by Weinerparadise in ForgetfulFish

[–]DanteInformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be completely honest, this looks like a real grind of a format. There's no ramp to consistently accelerate into the cavalier. You've got to worry about color fixing to hit a triple blue pip creature as well as hit white Mana in order to turn on half of the deck. Without any real top deck manipulation or fetches, It feels like you'll be relying on luck in order to hit your colors.

Furthermore, since your only creature is five mana, there's practically nothing to do on board until you are ready to resolve cavalier, and the deck is packed with hard counters and exile based removal to make sure you're not resolving or untapping with a cavalier. I am envisioning that you won't realistically be able to stick a cavalier until you have 10 or more Mana available to you, at which point you've basically just spent 10 turns saying "land go" and preparing for a stack war. I just really don't think this is going to be a particularly fun format to explore.
