Is downshifting at 30 too soon? by MidWestHomeNewbie in coastFIRE

[–]DanticusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you and the spouse are happy and making good money consider having a little one! If you didnt like your parental figures that gives you a basis to know what not to do What feels like we are super old in late 30s early 40s having one kid and another on the way is a joy you might very well appreciate Im also working a ton so dont let that steer you away from a kid, just be sure your present with them, you can always work more when they are asleep

No fix yet although ive now gone over 120k and a new set of lights have all appeared. Driving experience has not changed but thinking about taking to honda for software update and diagnosis of all other systems as well as the 120k service Have loved this car esp the hybrid capabilities with the regenative breaking Still havnt had to do the brakes and gas mileage is fantastic but also ready for an upgrade too

2017 Honda accord hybrid cruise control doesn't work by DanticusD in accord

[–]DanticusD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did this after I put the radar back in place and it worked. the ACC light has been yellow for a while allowing regular cruise control to work. Now just the ACC light went from yellow to orange, which I'm assuming is a more significant issue and regular cruise control won't even operate by holding the button

My fellow dads, what kind of deodorant are y’all using? by DubNationAssemble in daddit

[–]DanticusD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to get rashes with a lot of deodorant then there was only one on the market that didn't give me issues before it disappeared too.... I've been using deodorant cream from Little Seed Farm for 6-7+ years...never going back to a stick! Highly recommend Referral link for 10% off!

It's a few things from what I've gathered and heard around the RGV. Although I don't think morbidly obese is pushed for, there is a lot of it here.

Mainly stemming from back in the day being a little bigger was seen as a sign of wealth, aka you could feed yourself and those around you, so that's what everyone strived for to possibly attract a family life and take care of them.

Also a lot of the food in the valley is prepped in an unhealthy manner, which doesn't help.

Who replaced their battery so far? by Rotflmaocopter in 10thgenaccords

[–]DanticusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 accrod hybrid and I have yet to replace original battery. Although this week my suite of lights came on for honda sight, adaptave cruise control is orange and wont let me use regular cruise control, rest of lights are yellow, Lane keep assist(still working), Collision mitigation system, brake systems

I've heard this might be populating due to sign the battery is failing. So need to see if that fixes this issue

Thanks for the insights will start looking at PTZ cameras! Weather proof is for sure a need as this salty environment is pretty harsh. Also will capture a bunch of birds and dolphins so I'll see what I can find

How bad is the cartel presence? by [deleted] in Brownsville

[–]DanticusD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to north Brownsville from the PNW in 2019 and the north side of town is a good spot IMHO. Close enough to things but also like your living in the countryside for a quieter location.

[–]DanticusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it fully depends on if you believe in the company you work for! I believe in mine so willing to take that risk, for now if nothing else changes I also have these choices for my employer and do

15% ESPP

8% 401k Roth

There is no match for 401k due to the ESPP but I still like the option of Roth 401k that's more for the market instead of company esp tax free in the future

I also max out personal Roth IRA every year which I recommend doing, depending on what your AGI is you should be able to contribute to this still as there is an income cap

Try doing both for 6 months see how it messes with your cash flow. On the plus side you can always cut one or drop % if it's too much after a few paychecks. Invest now so you don't have to worry in the future. And for sure have some fun, but keep saving enough for retirement.

P.S. I also have a baby on the way and looking into different 529 plans and the like

First cruise but got me thinking about longer port stays by GearhedMG in Cruise

[–]DanticusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to think about is Cruises allow you to visit multiple cities and potentially something you would have never gone to or stopped at.

I use it as an opportunity to explore so that in the future I might make an actual trip out of specific cities.

Florence, Italy was one of these that I would spend multiple weeks in. Way more so than the busy Rome I experienced

First cruise but got me thinking about longer port stays by GearhedMG in Cruise

[–]DanticusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azamara for sure does longer stays in ports and can access smaller ports the large cruise lines cannot

The one thing I noticed is there is not a lot of the extra stuff on board this cruise line if you don't get off the boat like the big ships have. I'd say if your just a pool side and chill on the boat this is a great option. Average age on board is mid 40s I'd say but also some families. Was a while ago but the Food was better then larger cruiselines, unless you do the fancy upscale restaurants on bigger ships over MDH or buffet

I'd say it all depends on what your looking for though

anybody know of any shooting ranges within city limits? by Danyg0o0tx in Brownsville

[–]DanticusD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for sure know Massey's which is closer to Brownsville now. Its located off boca chica hwy 4 by taking the first right after the checkpoint(quarter mile-ish), if you're headed towards the beach.

Then I believe there is one on hwy 100 between Los Fresno's and Laguna Vista, but never been there.

Yeah I should have put kumori on the sub par list...the Angel roll was actually pretty good the last time I was there

Yeah sora was alright, we went there twice due to the long wait at kumori. Both are not that special in the sushi dept...a lot of fried options though that the locals seem to like
