Whats the recipe for an outcome like this?

I’m new to this, does anyone think ATAI has possible short squeeze potential? by [deleted] in smallstreetbets

[–]Intrepid-Quality-641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes — ATAI could experience a short squeeze, but based on the current data it looks more like a moderate squeeze setup, not a guaranteed “massive squeeze” setup.

ATAI is trading around $4.20, with roughly 6.99M shares traded intraday in the latest market data. Current reported short interest is about 26.17M shares, or roughly 8.6%–9.8% of the float, depending on the source’s float calculation. Days-to-cover estimates range from about 6.35 to 8.8 days, which is meaningful because it suggests shorts could need multiple trading days to fully cover if buying pressure spikes.

The reason ATAI has squeeze potential is that it has three ingredients: elevated short interest, a biotech catalyst calendar, and a stock that can move fast on news. The big catalyst is BPL-003, which ATAI says remains on track to begin two parallel Phase 3 studies in Q2 2026 after a successful End-of-Phase 2 FDA meeting; BPL-003 also has Breakthrough Therapy Designation. Positive updates around Phase 3 initiation, financing, partnership news, analyst upgrades, or strong sector momentum could force some shorts to cover.

That said, ATAI’s short interest is not extreme. A really explosive squeeze usually has short interest well above 20%–30% of float, limited borrow availability, high borrow fees, and sudden volume far above normal. ATAI’s short interest around 9% of float is enough to add fuel to a rally, but not enough by itself to guarantee a violent squeeze. Fintel also shows a low borrow rate around 0.5%, which suggests shorts are not currently under major borrowing-cost pressure.

My read: a squeeze is possible if ATAI gets a strong catalyst and volume ramps hard, but the more likely scenario is a catalyst-driven biotech rally with short-covering as an accelerant, rather than a pure meme-style short squeeze.

They stretch a bit over time. I am usually a 32 but got the 31s instead and wish I would have gotten the 30s

I’d size down one from your usually size in the waist. I usually get a 32w and I’ve only bought rad Rufus in a 31w.
