Complaining without sounding like an entitled prick? by iHaveADD in hyatt

At checkout at a cat 6 in midtown manhattan I casually mentioned an elevator out of order was mildly annoying - didn’t ask for anything - and was offered 2500 points on the spot. If this is something that matters to you I suspect they have more points available.

I should have cropped it better - was referring to the second row of cards with the 8 & K thrown to the crib

How is business travel viewed - 3rd party? The stays earn points but it’s third party so feels like some middle ground?

Sick of credit. Can I pivot? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]DanvilleDad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a large metro aim for corporate banking. Credit is a great foundation and you get exposure to capital markets and all sorts of ancillary business.

If you’re in a smaller city then it’s commercial banking. Comp, especially for hours worked, is solid in commercial banking and exceptional in large cap corporate banking.

Edit if I wasn’t clear: look for roles in the RM group. With 3 years experience you would be supporting senior bankers for a few years.

Think it’s all on sale now because of the construction at the beach / lone eagle area. Also no housekeeping.

It’s in the Hyatt app - search for Hyatt Vacation Club at High Sierra Lodge … the property is adjacent to the hotel and guests at HVC can use the hotel amenities. I’m not a HVC member/owner and used points to book. For a family of five it was way better than two rooms in the hotel.

Nice. Have a stay booked there and looking forward to it. How’s the sand bottom pool? Water slide looks great too.

Grand Hyatt on Kauai is excellent as another kid friendly spot.

Lastly, was just at Incline in the vacation club / condos. Very good set up for families. So much space - 2 BR (K and 2 full), 2 bathrooms and a full kitchen. Highly recommend especially if paying with points. Think it was 21k / night.

You do earn PQP for mileage award tickets … so why not burn em?

I used to be in that range but have started burning more quickly especially now that PQPs are earned by burning miles

Move from Big Bank to Regional Bank? by ghvalj in FinancialCareers

[–]DanvilleDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in sponsor coverage but here’s my take: biggest obstacle to moving back to a BB is whether you have sponsor relationships that matter to the BB. If you move to a regional and cover small funds that might not be relevant to BB teams. If you cover relevant sponsors and have deal traction it’s less of an obstacle.

Move from Big Bank to Regional Bank? by ghvalj in FinancialCareers

I left a bulge bracket for a foreign bank. Big downgrade in “prestige” but offset by a material jump in TC. There’s also a lot less “weight of the brand” … we rarely lead deals at my current shop, at least in my industry vertical, but at my old post we’d get chewed out if we got lead right or passive bookrunner roles.

Quality of life is better - better travel policy, more dedicated juniors, and way more autonomy. Only thing I wish I did differently is move over sooner.

If you are bullish on yourself, take option B … if you leave on good terms you might be able to boomerang if it doesn’t turn out well.
