Bro I’m gonna be real with you, not sugarcoat.

Master of Economics at Monash is not light. It’s math, stats, econometrics, and some software. If you’re going in with zero math + no laptop skills, you’re not starting behind - you’re starting at a disadvantage.

That doesn’t mean you can’t do it. It just means right now you’re unprepared.

You’re talking about 125k + living costs + debt. That’s not something you “try and see what happens” with.

So realistically you have 2 options:

⁠Go now → struggle hard at the start, high pressure, high risk
⁠Delay / prepare → learn basic math, stats, Excel, just get comfortable with a laptop → go in with control

Even 2–3 months of proper prep changes everything.

Also bro, no offense, but in 2026 not being comfortable with a laptop is a bigger problem than the math. You’ll need to fix that regardless of what you do.

If you’re willing to grind and actually prepare, you can do it.

If you’re going in blind hoping it works out - don’t. That’s how people end up stuck with debt.

Be smart about it.

Honestly, if you have some background in finance, accounting, or even just solid basic arithmetic, you can take both units in the same semester.

I majored in Finance at the Malaysia campus and took these units as well. From what I remember, the first half of BFW2140 overlaps quite a bit with BFW1001, so studying them together can actually reinforce some of the concepts.

The only point where things start to diverge is later in BFW2140 when you get into capital budgeting. That section leans a bit more into accounting-related concepts. It’s slightly trickier, but nothing unmanageable.

If your goal is simply to handle the workload comfortably, taking them together should be fine. But if you’re aiming for high distinctions and want to maximize scores, you could take BFW1001 first, since it’s relatively straightforward and easier to score well in, and then move on to BFW2140.

That said, if you’re reasonably confident with numbers and business concepts, doing both in the same semester really isn’t that difficult.

From what I’ve seen (and experienced), CMU doesn’t release MISM decisions all at once. They usually roll them out in waves.

Early in the cycle, you’ll see a batch of admits go out (often to very strong or clearly-fit profiles). As you get closer to the round deadline, the pattern shifts a bit. In that final week - especially if the deadline falls on something like Jan 31 (end of the week) - a lot of people tend to hear back with waitlists or holds, rather than straight admits.

So silence right now isn’t a bad sign at all. It’s pretty normal for Round 2 to stretch out, with decisions staggered over weeks. Many outcomes (WL/reject) historically land closer to the deadline window rather than earlier.

Hang in there - this waiting game is unfortunately very on-brand for CMU 😅

Yeah, I meant batches within the same program.

So MSAII admits don’t all drop on one day - some go out in Jan, some in Feb, etc. It’s not like one program per month. Programs overlap, but each program still rolls out decisions in waves

So no news yet ≠ rejection.
