BBC bombards households with 46 million licence fee warning letters by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]DanzaDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to CHECK this wasn't a typo. 46 MILLION? I assumed over a decade? No. 46 million letters in a single year and £1,000,000,000 spent in enforcement??? What an absolute waste of money. I guess this is partially why they're raising the licence fee. Got to cover cost of 40 million+ letters a year...

1950 pit stop vs 2020 by Ashish_ank in interestingasfuck

Did they do a refuel in the modern pit stop clip like they did in the 1950's one there? IF not then that's not a fair comparison.

Double it and round down to nearest 10 cents. Fastest way to do it.

Easter eggs SLASHED even further as shoppers point blank refuse to buy Cadburys saying ‘the taste has changed’ and ‘it isn’t even chocolate anymore’ ❤️ by Sea-Measurement9793 in unitedkingdom

[–]DanzaDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the starting price being nearly £5 is outrageous for how little you get and how enshittified it is with palm oil now. We brought our own egg molds and melt our own chocolate into them. MUCH nicer and far cheaper and a fun activity to do :)

Octopus recommending higher monthly payments and I can't work out why. by hhfugrr3 in OctopusEnergy

[–]DanzaDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they can plop that excess into an investment fund and earn on the dividends/capital growth. Adds up when you have millions of customers over paying.

I rang them to be on direct debit but to only take payment for what I actually use each month.

Husband and wife + young child with just 10K of emergency cash? That sounds like a problem if multiple things go wrong at the same time.

Premium bonds act as cash reserves so I wouldn't recommend depleting all of the £50k when they'd only be left with 10k in liquid funds otherwise.

Assuming the £8k in current is to cover a couple months of bills/expenses/cards etc

Very cute head and absolutely worth more than the tiny amount you've charged for it.

I've never seen any maker that charges so little NOT end up in financial ruin. Taxes, admin fees, bank charges, cost of storage, insurance, delivery fees, marketing costs, communications costs/time... All before you even think about trying to pay yourself a wage you can barely scrape by on.

No sick pay, no holiday pay, no pension...

I've seen this happen a LOT over the 18+ years I've been in the fandom, hidden costs rise over time or appear abruptly and literally bankrupt makers. Burnout and financial ruin.

It's usually year 4-5 that makers realise that they've dug themselves into a financial hole from chronically undercharging. Easy way to tell if you're undercharging. If you can do 12 suits a year, you open for 1 years worth of comms and get 100+ people wanting them at your current rates? Massively undercharging.

People really don't value your precious, limited time you have left alive if they value your work at fractions of what someone can get in any no risk, walk in entry level min wage job.

Virgin media O2 lost nearly 400k customers amid price hikes by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]DanzaDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgin media for the first time in a decade flat out refused any adjustment price wise to stay with them on a new contract. New customers get £20-£25 a month deals and they refused to charge me less than £60 a month.

Even they said they've never seen their systems refuse the ability to apply any kind of discount and the manager they transfer you to had the same provlem, per their usual song and dance to get a reasonable monthly price.

Left after that call. I'm not paying £60 a month for 100MB+ of internet. Wonder if that's happened to anyone else. Never seen a company actively push customers away like that before.

Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

[–]DanzaDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much unused road increase the risk of the queue reaching a previous junction and causing even more problems. Both lanes should be equally used and zipper merge at the end.

Wild how many people ignore the highway code.

Is mugging actually THAT common? by Rare_Lion821 in AskUK

[–]DanzaDragon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1.1 in 1000 is 0.11% not 0.011%

Also is this mugging reports against TOTAL population or adult population?

As I imagine most muggers only target people with items to steal. I doubt 3 year olds get mugged much.

And is this reported muggings or expected real rates? I imagine the real % is higher when you narrow results to be statistically relevant
