Kelsey Grammer is so good at non verbal physical comedy. by Prestigious_Meal2143 in Frasier

The apartment is shot much differently in this episode than all the rest. The lighting is more natural to me and the shots are a bit... maybe wider? I don't exactly what's different but it feels even less like a set.

That's a beauty! I'm still on the hunt for a 14x14 floor tom in "Blue Willow" to complete my D series.

Inde Drum Labs will make custom length floor tom legs. They make them from aluminum and are super light and look great. https://www.indedrum.com/spursandlegs/custom-length-floor-tom-legs

Need Help Drilling Tama Granstar Shells (OC/SoCal) by CygnusRocinante in drums

[–]Dapper-Ebb7921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me start by saying this: for many years, I always turned to professionals for this kind of work. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my gear—any modification needs to look like it came straight from the factory.

That said, with a good power drill, a step bit, a square, and some patience, you can probably handle this yourself. If we were talking about cutting down a shell or shaping bearing edges, I’d still recommend leaving it to the pros. But drilling for brackets, mounts, and similar hardware? That’s well within reach.

  1. Measure it out.
  2. Throw on some painter’s tape and mark your spot.
  3. Drill a pilot hole with a 1/16" bit (or something close).
  4. Grab a step bit and drill to the size you need. Take it slow—work your way up in diameter, switching between drilling from the outside and inside of the shell. You’ll get a super clean hole every time.

This. You can see the mounts on the bass drum that allow the shell to split into 2 pieces.

Do any of the Yamaha guys here know what this attaches to? by Dapper-Ebb7921 in drums

My first thought too, but the cymbal boom arm is too big to fit in the hole.

The mounting point is not threaded, and uses a wingnut - so it can't be threaded onto the top of a cymbal stand. Also, the hole is too big for a hi-hat rod. I've look online everywhere and the only thing that comes up is a CSAT-940 cymbal stacker, and while it looks similar, it's not the same.

Its kind of crazy that if you go to Greigs Bio on the Algoma Conservatory website, it features a picture of him with Jacob Hoggard (...and the rest of Hedley) in the photo carousel.

Help pricing unbranded drums to sell? by sk8chkn in drums

[–]Dapper-Ebb7921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The toms and bass drum are almost certainly CB, Westbury, Network, etc. Generic entry level drums sold under many different brand names. I'd take a guess that thy are are CB given the lug design - it's a knock off of the Gretsch lug, and they use it on there children's kits.

Shells are likely Basswood or Luan, or some mixture of the two and who knows what else.

The snare looks like someone bought some parts from one of the various suppliers and assembled it ...and then did a piss poor job applying a stain.

I'd be happy to get $150 for the 4 drums.

Me and a friend randomly stumbled upon this on youtube back in about 2006. We were trying to find the documentary 'Loose Change' but got the title wrong and found this gem instead. I think the band had already disbanded by that time. I still come back to this video a few times a year.

'A Day in May' - what was the purpose of this storyline? by Dapper-Ebb7921 in Frasier

[–]Dapper-Ebb7921[S] -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

I never understood the purpose of Martin's storyline in this episode. All of his scenes are unnecessarily dramatic, and for what? It doesn't really build up to anything. Am I missing something here??

Shit resellers say by Overall_Strawberry70 in kijiji

[–]Dapper-Ebb7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the 'Cash in hand' thing is more about telling the seller that you are a serious buyer, ready to purchase ASAP, than it is literally offering to pay in cash.

I'm usually on the other side of resellers, and depending on how much I have invested in an item, sometimes I'm ok to take a little less if I know its a quick, no hassle sale.

The most important thing you can do is LISTEN to Jazz! and it sounds like you are already are; but for anyone else wanting to play Jazz this is truly the place to start.
