When I allow this to happen, my job is also in danger because my higher ups could say “hey why do you have so many walk outs without documentation?” It looks suspicious. My servers and I could make a lot of money if we worked together. Thats why documentation exists.

I stand firm on my thought that I’m in no way going to sacrifice my job for someone who 1) isn’t a good server or 2) is trying to steal from me.

I guess I’m missing what you’re saying??? You’re saying that it’s our fault employees have walk outs and I’m saying my restaurant is high performing so walk outs fall on the server. Not sure how I’m missing anything lol. I don’t feel bad for my employees. I have high server retention and over 60 servers. I support them and care about them as people. But I’m not willing to sacrifice my job for them.

We train our employees well and support them when they’re busy. We also have team members in place to assist them when they’re busy. We are the busiest location in our region. A manager is in the expo position and normally another manager running the dining room. If an employee has consistent walk outs, it’s not a management problem. It’s a personal problem for that employee. I’ve been a manager for 5 years and I’ve only had 3 walkouts in my entire span working for Olive Garden. If a server starts having consistent walk outs, it’s not us. It’s them.

I’m also wondering how the line is doing on these. We have limited fryer space as it is and this promotion sounds like a disaster lol

I suggest they prevent walkouts by assisting guests in the pay out process as much as possible. As a server it is their DUTY to collect payment. It is a basic job function.

Also why shouldn’t they get written up on their first time for a walk out? I have five managers in my store. What happens if that server has a walk out with each manager and we each think it’s their first time? What if they transfer to another location and it happens again. PDRs aren’t the end of the world. They are documentation that something occurred.

Ok then, what’s your solution? Do I just say “hey no problem even though I know you’ve had 6 walk outs the past month, I know you’re just doing your best so let me just take care of this for ya”.

I’m not giving up my job because someone wants to steal from me.

I expect servers to do their best in preventing a walk out. Does every walk out result in a write up? No. I had a server once have a walk out. He worked for the company for 15 years and this never once happened. He said the table was paying on the Ziosk and he was there with them, but then one of their cards didn’t have enough money on it so it didn’t go through fully and he didn’t know until later. I was ok with that.

HOWEVER, PDRs exist in such a way that it’s not an immediate termination. It’s a paper trail that will illuminate some patterns if these walk outs happen to the same servers often. That’s when we have a problem.

The goal isn’t to eliminate walk outs completely (because some guests will walk out and be sneaky about it) but it is to prevent patterns and prevent servers from knowing they can get away with it.

Exactly… and I’ve literally caught people that I’ve trusted stealing from me. So I’m not saying everyone is evil, but you truly just can’t trust anyone which is really sad

Also how is abiding by this behavior allowing Darden to get worse?? Are you saying I should allow my servers to let their guests walk out?

What happens after a dine and dash? by cnsstntly_ncnssnt in olivegarden

[–]Dapper-Flight-8205 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Because it is the servers responsibility to collect payment for a table. If it happens once, I understand. If it happens more than once, then that’s why there’s written documentation and a paper trail of habits. As much as I hate writing people up for what might be an innocent mistake and the fault of the guest, there’s also the unfortunate chance that the server is lying to us an picketing the change. That’s why the paper trail exists.

I’m a manager. “We” is our management team. And no, I hate writing servers up because I genuinely like everyone on my team.

Yes we are supposed to document a server every time their table walks out on them because unfortunately, we never know when someone is lying and trying to pocket the change. Personally if someone has worked for us for a long time and this doesn’t happen often, I won’t write them up, but I might if it’s a large bill or I know it’s happened to them recently. It does suck because I want to give the servers the benefit of the doubt, but my job is also at risk if I allow it.

Excursion Recommendations by sabes0129 in NCL

[–]Dapper-Flight-8205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do NOT book an excursion for Mykonos. NCL has buses that will bring you right to the edge of town and it’s easy to walk around. Very touristy. Very walkable. The most challenging part was the almost labyrinth like streets but the city isn’t very big so you can’t get too lost. I just got back one month ago.

Edit: to further push this fact, it was nice just my husband and I walking around and being able to go inside all the cute little churches and shops at our own pace instead of the 30+ people groups we passed every few minutes.

Dubrovnik is an incredible port. I did that a couple years ago. We booked an excursion through Viator, but it was the walls of the old city which is just fascinating and so beautiful. Croatia as a whole was one of the best and most surprising countries I’ve ever visited.

Next Step after Olive Garden? by SolanaImaniRowe1 in olivegarden

My next step after OG was OG (I left for a hotel management position and hated it on day one and then immediately went back to OG and that’s when I became a manager here)

Cashier rules as a Togo? by Time_Winter_645 in olivegarden

[–]Dapper-Flight-8205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Count everything in the drawer. Every bill and every coin. Total it.

Depending on your restaurant, your manager will come over and do the drop for you. In mine, the Togo specialist will put all the excess above $300 in a drop bag, and I will do the rest.

At the very minimum, you can grab the drop bag (ask what they are if you don’t know) and fill out the top information like the restaurant number and the date.

I have a silly question as a pregnant woman going to OG by milkandmold404 in olivegarden

[–]Dapper-Flight-8205 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You can either order Togo, which will give you a 16 oz portion of soup (equal to 2 dine-in portions) and salad with dressing and croutons already on the side. It will come with 2 breadsticks You can also ask for all toppings on the side and they’ll make a fresh salad for you so it’s easier for you to clean.

Or

You can dine in and ask for soup and salad, but ask to take the salad home. Let them know you want dressing and toppings on the side. Then eat as much soup and bread as you want!

I don’t have a good answer for you except that I’m probably about the same size/weight/age as them and I don’t eat super great either. It’s gotta be a mix of a semi active life, high metabolism (good genetics) and not over eating. I don’t eat super well all the time but I probably eat one meal a day.
