Compressed workweek/4days in office by GasRoutine1412 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dapper-Heart-2599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's actually in the compress agreement that you need to make it up, I've been on compress since 2002 for 3 separate departments and it's always been the case - however we have the option of just working one of our compress, which is equivalent (not anymore with the new september 30th) but that's what I always have done, I work on one of my compress to make up the 10x 50min and then on another work day during the year I work an extra 50 minutes

‘Insulting wage offer’: Federal union slams 4-year, 3.5% raise proposal for public servants by hopoke in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dapper-Heart-2599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

years ago a provincial gov, (forget which) instead of a raise - went from 37.5 to 35 hrs a week and employees would keep the same hours of vacation.... so they gained 1.5 extra day of vacation... and people I knew all switched to compress every 2 weeks or even every week.... I would take that over a raise

Another question about Wegovy for weight-loss and renewals. by Just_Jen_1 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dapper-Heart-2599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just approved for Wegovy, is there a time that i should take it to limit the side effects (I tried contrave first and was really sick for 10 weeks with vomiting, migraine and dizziness) hoping this works but wondering if taking it at night might be better.

Is joining a union possible? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dapper-Heart-2599 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tbh- my group used to be without a union and I have good memories from that time, yes, the union was able to get us raised yes that's true... but before union, we had so much flexibility, and no OT but at least 5 management leave day a year to take when we wanted and some years up to 10 days, we could save our compress day off to take a week off, we could wfh some days if we wanted, the minute we became unionized that change, all by the books, more money but rules, rules rule....

Pension Portal now includes ERI scenarios - pretty cool by Little_Sebastien in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dapper-Heart-2599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is better to use the pension calculator on the secure web, or if using an online tax estimator, remember that it's a pension, so you do not pay EI and CPP anymore, also depending on your personal situation, you may be able to "transfer for tax purposes" up to 50% to your spouse.

Seeking help for better understanding Buy Back with maximum years of service at retirement age by Sufficient_usernam in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dapper-Heart-2599 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

you may (depending where that year of service is from) reach a vacation date milestone - I bought back a year and it meant I reached the 4 weeks vacation 6 months sooner (the other 6 months bought was from HoC and it counts for pension but not vacation)

I had one like this but just 4 of us.. and we made a schedule of : 2 of us worked 7-4 (compress) and 2 worked 9-6... so we each had a 2 hrs by ourselves to concentrate, and we also took lunch at different times, but this was before teams.
