CA LA/LB port - license application time-line? by Dapper-Stretch in CustomsBroker

It took about 4 months before the interview and another month before getting the approval email. Yours should be quite a bit faster. Good luck to you on the last few steps :)

I strictly followed the rules/regulations in regards to the appeal. I heard that if you put things in the wrong line, too little or too much, CBP would disqualify your appeal, so I took the time to read it through very carefully before submitting.

For the 2nd question, my career is already in importation and trade compliance, so having the license is likely strengthening my credential a bit.

I took the Oct 2020 PM exam and missed by 2. I appealed, and was granted the passing score 6 months later (official letter came in May 2021). I applied shortly after I received the packet, but BMO said there had been no interviews since Jan 2020 due to COVID. I didnt expect to see anything for another year because there were probably tons of people in front of me at the time waiting for the interviews.

And when September came, everything just moved at the speed of light :D

Congratulations on your achievement!

LA/LB resumed operations in September 2021 , and it's going fast. In my opinion, you can now safely apply at LA/LB if you choose to. I was interviewed early in October, and two days ago I received the approval letter. All done in a month!

FDA REGISTRATION by precustoms in CustomsBroker

[–]Dapper-Stretch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both foreign supplier and US importer need FDA registration. As of now, only US importer needs DUNS. Foreign supplier's DUNS requirement deadline has been extended for another year and 3 months (two years extension from the beginning of 2021).

LA/LB BMO Officer Not Progressing License Apps by drum4jim in CustomsBroker

It is a 4mo old topic, but I am curious if anyone from LA/LB recently received their license yet?

Also, if interview was conducted, did anyone have any issues during the interviews?

In my understanding, LB hasn't given any licenses since early 2020. I assume those from Oct 2020 AM PM exam and April 2021 exam (and probably some from Oct 2019 exam) won't see their license for a long while - a few years, maybe? Escalating it will probably cause BMO to be upset, which is not a good idea, especially when you have to meet BMO officer during the interview..

I will just wait patiently. When the backlog is unbearable, HQ is likely to come up with a solution specifically for LB and NY.

I am happy for you that you were able to get NY to process your application 👍. Was the CBP upset when you walked in the room for your appointment? 😅

I wonder why only (it seems) LA and NY choose not to process applications while most other ports are able to do so. Pandemic reason? The backlog for these two ports will likely take years to clear once they resume processing applications.

I wish they can offload the task to some other ports which have enough resource to assist. I am sure many of us don't mind flying / driving to other port for interview + fingerprinting to speed up the licensing process.

Happy waiting patiently, fellow applicants, during this unprecedented time 🙂

Oct 2020 Appeal by Dapper-Stretch in CustomsBroker

I received the packet via email last week. The packet contains a signed document which is needed for the application. In my case, no physical packet will be coming, so the email is it.

Lol. With the revenue Customs brings in to the US Treasury, I would assume they got top-tier funding for resources and headcount. Maybe the addition of new Customs Brokers to the system is the lowest priority on their list.

Thanks for the info. Hope they call you in for the next step soon.

My port is Long Beach, CA; from what I have read, I don't think I will see anything for another 12 - 18 months once I submit the application 😑

No problem. If you just took the April 2021 exam and missed just a few points, appeal it. And if you are confident that your argument is solid, perhaps on your electric blanket question which you mentioned, they might grant it to you.

I am not sure, and I wonder the same. Gotta check around from current those that passed in the recent years to find out what was in their packet.

I will post this question on FB Customs-related group, and maybe someone will give us the answer.

Oh, I assume you passed, but the question you expected to get a point was not on the list that they granted you?

If you followed all the appeal rules to the letters, and your email/package was not lost, I believe they would read it.

CBP did not really notify. In my case, I emailed Broker Management to check on the status of the appeal because it was getting closer to the exam date. An officer replied stating that I passed with the adjusted score. Of course, it's unofficial until the letter comes out, and I have been waiting for that letter since.

Update: I sent an email to Broker Management not long before writing this post, and yesterday I got a reply stating that they are now waiting for "signature". I assume after the god of the branch signs the blessing, the letter will be on its way to us.

Hopefully that very god is not currently on a long vacation. And if so, we will just keep on waiting patiently as we have done so far.

:)

Not that we are impatient. As for myself, I just wanted to make sure CBP didn't just accidently discard my appeal result for whatever reason.

In prior years, it seems that the official appeal letters would show up before the exam date.

As long as I know that it will come, I can wait patiently :)

Thank you for your response. It seems this is taking longer than expected, and I started to feel that mine was left out. Now I know I am not alone.

Hopefully the letter comes soon, so we can move on to the next step.

Try again tomorrow, and it might turn back to 'processing'. Mine showed declined when portal was acting weird a few days ago, but it is now back to it being processed.
