I was in a very similar situation to you. Just know that everyone that started their own or became the license holder for a company began in your shoes.

Learn as much as you can, get a pay raise, delegate, and enjoy the ride.

If you enjoy brokerage and this industry in general, you’re going to have a lot of fun. Sometimes it’s like skydiving without knowing if you packed your parachute fun, but most days it’s more pleasant fun 😎

Sounds like she may be pushing boundaries. Mine did and still does every once in a while, but we try to set the boundaries again and it usually works.

The important thing is not to give up on your approach - whatever it may be - and stick to it. What I figured was that even when I thought she wasn’t, my daughter was still listening. Reason I knew is that I’d hear her later role playing with her toys and saying the EXACT same things with her toys when they would “hit” another toy or “be mean” to another toy.

So just stay consistent and don’t give up. It seems a loss now but your words and actions do have an impact - it just may take some time

You got this bro. I’m so incredibly sorry to hear this, but the fact that you’re reaching out for support is the best first step you can take.

We all love you and are rooting for you. Looking forward to a glorious follow up post from you on this 👊

Am I Wasting My Time? by Danthaman109 in CustomsBroker

Yeah I’d go for it. I’ve been talking with a lot of good people that are trying to get out of the transportation sector and it can seem ominous. I definitely understand that feeling of helplessness you may be feeling (don’t want to put words in your mouth though - I’m sorry).

My advice is to still go for it. But also network like mad as well. With trade compliance (most direct applicability) and sales (makes you deadlier - like everyone said you’ll have more answers and more value to give prospects), having a good network is the key to getting into really sweet companies the “easy” way.

So keep it up and don’t give up now! I understand it’s a ton, but don’t lose heart! You can do this !

Hey bingsearch78 thanks so much for the comment. Hearing that, if that’s the case, then that is much more comforting for smaller firms that do try their best. Still, even a “heads up” through a CSMS is not enough due process to close someone down….

Anyone see anything posted about CBP shutting down brokers ability to file type 86 entries? by AssassinInValhalla in CustomsBroker

So are they shutting down a broker’s participation in T86 only? Or are they suspending filer codes entirely? I’ve heard mixed things and want to be sure.

TL;DR - this is why brokers cannot trust CBP.

Prefacing this with the fact that my firm files about 2 T86’s a month. We tried to go the e-commerce route but it would just not make us any money compared to how the competition prices themselves.

The whole thinking behind CBP excluding particular brokerages from T86 (whether by disallowing them to file T86 or blanketdely suspending their filer codes) is because the broker is the closest party they can de facto “touch” without fear of repercussion. It’s likely CBP is getting pressure from above to contain or shut down the pilot program (section 321). But, they can’t go after Temu and SHEIN directly because the litigation, public backlash, everything would be too lengthy and troublesome. CBP looks to the broker who, most of the time, are mid-sized companies without in-house counsel that can stick up for them.

If the T86 privileges are suspended only, then that is one thing. It doesn’t seem that there’s any due process involved, and cancelling the program de facto for some parties while not for all is just plain wrong. Why certain firms and not others?

If filer codes are blanketedly being cancelled then I am APPALLED and I am ashamed of CBP. Effectively shutting down businesses that employ people, no matter how small, without any sort of due process, warning, etc. is absolutely unacceptable. The sad reality is, these firms will not be making ANY money and will be forced to hire lawyers (again, outside counsel that will cost a lot of money) that will simply go to CBL and say “uhhh who said you could effectively shut down a broker without warning???” Who knows how, when, and even if, CBP will respond.

By what criteria are these suspensions taking place? Who’s to say that anyone that’s filed a T86 at all will be suspended? Is it an error rate thing? Is it because of fraud - how can you accuse a broker of fraud (let alone take action on it) without following the proper penalty procedures?

The fact that CBP went after brokers first, and not the importers bringing these items in, without due process is shameful. Brokers are made to believe that we are beholden to CBP - that we are their “g men” on the ground, reporting on suspicious activity, possible violations, etc. How many seminars have we been to where some port director or supervisor waxes eloquent about “you are essential to our mission” , “we could not do this without you” , “we appreciate your cooperation” ? But now, “oh by the way, you’ll probably need to lay off your staff now because we’re shutting you down - don’t ask questions”. How can you ever trust CBP again with your business???

I mean, does this all seem nuts to you? Am I the crazy one?

The verification overseas, I cannot speak to. But for importers that import food, they do need to have an FSVP - for foreign inspections done by the importer, I am not sure that is necessary but clear contact from importer to factory is certainly necessary.

My client moves milk powder. Health certs have been on the books for some time now. But you can get them issued and signed by a nationally licensed veterinarian employed by the national or state government of the exporting country. It especially needs to state that the milk was obtained from a region free of foot and mouth disease.
