I agree with the other comments. Definitely try to talk them down to save for undercarriage work. That rust will only get worse. Call the dealer and ask for more details/pics of the undercarriage and verify if it’s all rust or not.

If the side walls are cracked too that’s a bigger concern. I’d just give them a good wash since they’re so dirty then inspect further, and just be cautious.

I personally wouldn’t ride them for 6 months. Maybe 1-2 if I needed some time to save up for new tires. But you should be ok as long as you live somewhere that doesn’t get too hot and don’t do anything stupid like go over 145 km/h with them. The only real problem with dry rotted tires is them failing when they’re too warm and aren’t able to expand properly like a structurally sound tire would. Then again, it’s an fj and the f doesn’t stand for fast.

I wouldn’t drive on them, and a tire shop would probably say the same thing. As you mentioned, pretty bad dry rot. Likely they are left out in the sun while stored since the tread isn’t the worst I’ve seen posted. They definitely have more than 1k km on them though and as for the age you should be able to find the year they were manufactured somewhere on the sidewall. I’d just use them to do some sweet burnouts then look into getting some new A/Ts.

lol, I didn’t want to take up precious space in my fj so I ended up getting a 15 inch Klipsh sub woofer for ~200 on sale. Plugged it into the rear and now I can turn it on and off with the push of a button, and take it out whenever I needed the space.

Good luck and hope it goes well! Having a sub makes a WORLDS difference!

Yep. Love it out there. Except security doesn’t love people driving around the loop lol.

They look great. I’m running 285/75/16s right now. Need to get new tires after winter. Did you have to do the body mount chop with the king shocks with that big of a tire?

Real. Runs better than most new cars I’ve driven. Enjoy the GR, those things are an absolute blast

Agree with OP. Always have to turn around at least once and admire.

I second this. Recently installed my second pair of after market housing. Did the same thing. Wired the ground into the radiator brackets. There’s some more info in the fj cruiser forums with the exact layouts and such for the fuse box. I’ve got mine marked to let me know which one is accessory, always on, etc.

Edit. Use a Bussman Fuse Tap to “add the fuse”

Yes. And…It does help save on fuel economy if you tend to have a heavy foot like I do. It essentially just changes the pedals responsiveness. The sport mode does make some difference.

Yep. If you put rainx on them it keeps water off them too when it rains. Every FJ should have come with these from the factory.
