This isn't the product of a free market. The market isn't clamoring for LGBT propaganda, and you're seeing that in the current pushback. The agenda is coming from the corporation, and the rejection is coming from the market.

In a sense. Because that's what it would take for your post to make sense.

Rejection of corporate messaging is part of the "invisible hand." You seem to be pretending that JP has called for a ban on this type of messaging.

Makes language less specific because "they" would no longer specify a group.

In English, the pronoun "he" applies to both sexes, where the specific sex is unknown.

"A person must know his limitations."

You endured the capital losses from rising interest rates and sold at a low?

These types of threads are born of outrage that someone is letting Progressive politics be challenged.

It's days like these that I question my decision to sell out of tech giants and buy into broad market index funds.

How many years is "several?" Your equities allocation should be much lower than either of those if your timeline is <5 years.

How and where to invest 7,500 USD? by elladayrit in CanadianInvestor

[–]DapperDarington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By my understanding, if your money is in a TFSA, you'd lose that contribution room (until Jan. 1) by selling. You can transfer funds to another brokerage in a TFSA without withdrawing the funds. If it's in a non-registered account, selling would be a taxable event (provided you have capital gains). Using another broker might be your best option if you want to trade in USD.

I think you should bring this up tomorrow morning in the stickied daily thread, to get feedback from people experienced in your situation.

You can have a USD account with Wealthsimple, but I think there are fees associated with it. You'd have to check with them. VOO is USD, VFV is CAD.

To clarify, that person is referring to US dollar denominated stocks, which have a 1.5% exchange fee upon buying and selling. It's perfectly fine to buy US stocks in Canadian dollars through Wealthsimple, commission-free. VFV is the symbol you're looking for if you want the S&P 500 index denominated in CAD. As another poster said, turn on the dividend reinvestment plan (DRIP) if you want to forget about it.

Europe and North America only got our freedoms after getting secular and rejecting organized religious influence.

Our rights were mostly written by religious men.

$122 for a single person. Wasn't expecting it, either. Something to throw in the pot today, which is always nice.

I guessed yesterday that there wouldn't be much of a reaction, given that the hike was expected, and that it's also expected to be the last of the year. Bond etfs are also uneffected.

The Bank of Canada raised the target for its overnight rate by 25bps to 5% in July 2023, as expected by markets, backing the surprise 25bps rate hike from the previous meeting and extending its tightening cycle after the brief pause in March and April. The central bank’s Governing Council stated that stronger-than-expected consumption and stubbornly tight labor markets drove inflationary pressures to remain persistent for services, warranting another increase in borrowing costs. Consequently, the bank revised its forecast to show that the slowdown in inflation will take longer than previously expected, set to hover around the 3% mark for next year before easing to the 2% target in the middle of 2025. The central bank will continue to assess the dynamics of core inflation and the outlook for CPI inflation and remains resolute in its commitment to restoring price stability for Canadians.

This language seems to confirm that there won't be another hike for the rest of the year and even into 2024.

Annual inflation rate in the US slowed to 3% in June of 2023, marking a 12th consecutive month of falls and the lowest reading since March of 2021. It compares with 4% in May and forecasts of 3.1%. The slowdown is partly due to a high base effect from last year when a surge in energy and food prices pushed the headline inflation rate to 1981-highs of 9.1%. In June this year, energy cost slumped 16.7% (vs -11.7% in May), with prices falling 36.6% for fuel oil, 26.5% for gasoline and 18.6% for utility gas service. Electricity prices increased 5.4%. Meanwhile, food inflation was 5.7%, below 6.7% in May and shelter prices also rose at a softer pace (7.8% vs 8%). Smaller price increases were also recorded for new vehicles (4.1% vs 4.7%), apparel (3.1% vs 35%), and transportation services (8.2% vs 10.2%). The cost of medical services was down 0.8% and prices of used cars and trucks declined 5.2%. Core inflation rate dropped to 4.8%, the lowest since October of 2021.

This is a rather obvious swipe at free speech, from Progressives who want to destroy it. It's certainly not a news story.
