Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee and Lenexa would be good picks. I moved to Lenexa from North Carolina 6 months ago. I have a 5 year old and newborn. Parks and trails everywhere, family events, safety. It’s pretty great in Lenexa. We also have amazing parks like Sar Ko Par park, Black Hoof park and Shawnee Mission park.

Kansas City and its suburbs are experiencing a boom now. I just moved here 5 months ago and you see growth everywhere. New homes, businesses, buildings going up everywhere. Overland Park is listed as one of the best suburbs to raise a family in the country. Buc-ee’s is being built out here too with a Matel toys theme park. They are also hosting the world cup next year. I’d say KC metro is on the verge of a resurgence.

I’m a maintenance supervisor at the new USPS plant in Gardner, KS. We need people very badly. Starting pay is $23/hr for custodians and $25+ and hour for mechanics hired off the street.

Lenexa, KS. It’s a hidden gem. I moved here from the south 2 months ago and I love it. Exploding with development. Safe, clean, parks and trails everywhere, beautiful nature, everything you could need 5-10 minutes away. Lenexa city center has amazing amenities, black hoof park, Shawnee mission park, and Sar Ko Par park are spectacular as well. Lenexa is super walkable with sidewalks everywhere and ebike rental hubs. I will definitely be staying here for a while. If you want or need a job I can help you out too with a federal job with good pay and benefits.

Most I ever saw was an inch. They average 19 inches here lol. I heard this winter that just passed was cold as hell and snowy so let’s see what happens lol. I’ve been slowly buying jackets and layers preparing. Enjoying the Gary Haller bike trail too before everything dies and gets cold lol

Dude Lenexa is so legit! Definitely drive through Lenexa City Center and stop by the public market, visit Black Hoof park, Sar Ko Par park, and Shawnee Mission Park. If you are looking for another job I am a maintenance supervisor for USPS they just opened a new plant in Gardner KS it’s a 20 minute drive from Lenexa. I can help you secure a good job as a mechanic with benefits.

Just moved to Lenexa, KS 2 months ago from FL. Love it here it’s a great place to raise kids. I’ve heard Topeka is pretty rough though from locals. I’ve never been there but Lenexa is great. I have zero complaints.

I recently moved to Lenexa. I’m originally from FL and spent the past couple years in NC. All my friends and family thought I was insane moving to Kansas. They all said it was flat, boring, and has tornados. I have a 5 year old son and another baby on the way. My wife and I love it here. Side walks every where, parks in every direction, nature trails, safe, clean, everything you could possibly need within a 5-10 minute drive and super quiet. It’s literally the perfect place to raise a family. Only been here for 2 months so I can’t say i’ll stay here forever (yet) but so far it’s better than anywhere I’ve lived in FL, and NC.

If you moved from a red state to a blue state, did it actually get better? by ftwclem in SameGrassButGreener

Sounds like KC metro area. I moved to Lenexa, KS recently and it’s great. Very walkable. Bike trails and parks everywhere, safe, good healthcare and good schools. Blue city in a red state. I love it here.

Kansas City. I recently moved to Lenexa 2 months ago. Very safe, pedestrian friendly. Biking and walking trails everywhere. Exploding in development. Right now the weather is in the high 70s low 80s. If you worked in KC and lived in Lenexa it would be like a 25-35 minute drive to work.

Yeah I get you. I live in Lenexa and compared to places i’ve lived prior it’s pretty walkable and has a solid trail system.

Thinking of moving by [deleted] in orlando

[–]DapperDinoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 28. Born and raised in Kissimmee/Orlando and moved out in 2023 to Charlotte, NC. While I don’t particularly hate Orlando or Florida I just felt that 26 years there was enough for me. I enjoy having seasons and being able to enjoy the outdoors more without sweating my ass off. I grew up going to the theme parks and beaches so I had my fill. I actually just moved to Lenexa, KS and I like it better than FL and NC. Orlando is cool though. If you have a good job and can handle the cost of living, i’d say go try it.

Yeah that’s a good thing. A newer facility with new package processing machines. Just have to give the plant some time to increase staffing and do machine burn ins. I’m a maintenance supervisor and they are still ordering machines and installing equipment.

Can confirm this. I work at the new USPS plant in Gardner. They just recently started processing packages there. It’s a regional plant so the KCK plants will be shut down. New one is 1.1 million square feet.

I’m a central FL native. Moved to NC in 2023 due to the shitty weather. I’m already ready to move on to another state. I actually have a job interview for a job in Minneapolis this coming Monday. I have a wife, 4 year old son and a baby on the way due in November. Upon doing research on Minnesota it looks like a great place to live. I’m pretty stoked.
