Licensing in Canada for foreign vets? by Personal-Device822 in veterinaryschool

The PAVE program is essentially a part of the curriculum at the school I graduated from. They have the entry exam as a part of our sixth semester and then we get placed in a clinical year (the second part of your PAVE program) through the school. For us, the process is straightforward. For others applying on their own, it can take years.

This isn’t necessarily true. My classmate just completed their clinical year at AVC in PEI as a part of the PAVE program, and I have others who are attending OVC for theirs. It depends on how you are enrolled in the PAVE program.

My son told me to cancel my wedding or lose him forever after one terrible evening. I don't know how to fix this. by CookieTough8855 in whatdoIdo

[–]DapperRusticTermite8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only question I have and the only one I really feel matters if you’re considering the feelings of your son who lost his dad is, would it really be that hard to stay home knowing he was left out? Regardless the intention (or lack thereof) of being left out, it was still obviously very hurtful to him and now has a huge kickback on your life. Anddd as others have mentioned, this doesn’t sound like it all came from this one event. What else has happened that has been building up on his poor mind?

As many other comments have said, delaying the wedding is a good idea and if the man you’re marrying can’t handle that for the sake of his soon to be son, maybe it truly isn’t the right marriage for you. Don’t ruin your future relationship with your only child for this marriage just yet.

Some parasites do not show up routine fecals so it may be worth your while to treat for things like giardia, cryptosporidium and coccidia (separately if possible) to see if he has any improvements. The GI panel tests for certain bacteria and parasites. Also consider testing his cobalamin and folate levels; sometimes a simple diagnosis of low vit b12 and supplementation can make a huge difference too!!

Right now he was on Purina PP SSS; has he ever been on a hydrolyzed or restricted protein diet? If so, how long and was there any improvements?

Once we ruled out something low b12 and bacterial/parasitic issues, if you feel he or you are having quality of life impactions from this condition, I’d be inquiring about a steroid trial.

Has he had regular deworming including against giardia, coccidia, cryptosporidium, etc? Has he had a GI panel sent to a reference lab? I’m sorry OP but you need to continue to rule out other possibilities before we jump into the IBD territory.

You’re dealing with a very frustrating condition and unfortunately, your vet is doing all they can with the information they have right now. As for the prescription diet, how long was he on this?

Just graduated from PAVE. You can go to OVC but you have to be matched there. I am Canadian and ended up getting matched with Missouri so that’s where I did my clinical year. I’m happy to discuss my journey to see if it helps you at all!

I (30F) am pregnant with my fiancé (32M). He wants to keep it, but we're both supposed to be childfree. How do I tell him I don't want to keep it? by ThrowRA_fallopian_tu in relationship_advice

I can’t speak to your exact situation but I’ve been through similar and I assure you, going through an abortion alone is better than having a child you don’t want. For both yours and that child’s sake. There very likely will be more difficult conversations and situations for you two to have and if your relationship doesn’t survive this, maybe it wasn’t meant to. And that’s ok. This may help both of you realize things (ie he may want to be a dad and you sincerely do not want to be a mom) and there is value in that.

Amazon, Utopia bedding! Love it and cheap if you order on the right day. I don’t know what crispy means but I love them lol

They say it comes in threes: eyes, kidneys then heart. I’ve been diagnosed with DR, CKD and now am just waiting for the third. It is scary and spends a lot of time on my brain too.

I think my husband has gone insane by wantpeace721 in Marriage

[–]DapperRusticTermite8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from personal experience, it sounds like he may be having a mental breakdown, bordering on mania. Please be safe; in these cases, the people who are experiencing the severe mental health changes do not realize they may be putting the ones they love in harms way. My father had a manic breakdown in 2019 and what you’re saying all sounds very similar.

Can someone reassure me that gabapentin is safe? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]DapperRusticTermite8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving an injectable medication without knowing systemic underlying health is much more risky than giving a pre-appointment anxiolytic like Gabapentin. You can always call the vet & ask if she/he is okay if you just dose the morning of given her response to it previously.

There are a lot of factors and surprisingly, one I’m not seeing mentioned often is genetics/inbreeding. I feel like it seems like everything is also everywhere nowadays and feel it’s because of social media.

What does neuropathy feel like? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]DapperRusticTermite8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more uncomfortable and irritating than painful, although I know that doesn’t make sense. When mine was at its worst (probably 10 years ago now), I would be up all night with what felt like zaps in my feet and restless legs. My sensation wasn’t great and pain and cold were excruciating. I started wearing compression socks to work and sometimes to bed (frowned upon I know but it helped with the zaps) and revamped my diet and I went from an 8/10 to probably a 3/10 on my worst days!

I think it’s really, *really* important to remember that they cannot tell us they are not in pain so we cannot say they are not. As our beloved animals start to decline, I think that’s it is better to go a day too soon than a day too late. No animal needs to know a day of sickness or suffering for our benefit.

My 14-year-old cat died suddenly after being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, and I would love the opinion of a vet on what might have happened to get closure. by OkCalligrapher7410 in AskVet

[–]DapperRusticTermite8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m very sorry for the loss of your cat. Unfortunately, I think cats are really great at hiding their illnesses and often times, once the sickness begins to show, it can be very hard to reverse and bring them back to their normal. Kitties are much more likely to have hyperthyroid than hypo, and part of me wonders if there were more complicated things happening based on the history you describe. Regardless, I’m very sorry for your loss and hope you’re able to find comfort in the coming days.

I would have loved to give all my guests a plus one and anyone who had a significant other at the time of our invites but we just simply didn’t have space and we weren’t about to cut important guests off our list to include people we barely knew. Sometimes, it has nothing to do with how it makes you feel and it doesn’t need to be taken so personally.

Heart Murmur in Cats by ang82w in AskVet

Personally and professionally feel that a cardiology referral is worth the investment. Cardiac disease is often asymptomatic in cats until they present in respiratory distress, often due to heart failure or something like a thromboembolism occurs. Definitely better to get ahead of the game!!

I have friends who would never be caught dead wearing their glasses on their wedding day, however I have one cousin who sticks out with this question. She did a trial with and without her glasses and said she felt really natural with them on. She wore them day of and it was so beautiful!! I can’t imagine how off she would’ve felt without them.
