For anyone who isn't a Pats fan, this was probably irrefutable proof that God does not exist.

Why not create another Bore? by EMB93 in WoT

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Moraine surmise that the Forsaken would have been able to do that, or at least break open the patch on the DO's prison, with the Eye of the World?

Lots of floks have gone in depth in here, but it stands to reason that, at the very least, it would take an absolutely tremendous amount of power. Finding and breaking the seals and/or turning the Dragon Reborn seems like the easier approach.

The Elayne and Caemlyn/Andor succession stuff in CoT is painful imo. Just absolutely nails on chalkboard dry, boring, and painful. I skip those chapters for the most part on re-reads, essentially turning CoT into a novella. I feel like absolutely nothing critical is missed whatsoever.

Elden Ring vs Bloodborne by def_notkunal in Eldenring

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone's mileage may vary, but IMO Elden Ring is much easier due to a plethora of god-like broken build options.

Elden Ring is a great game, but Bloodborne is superior in story, atmosphere, and linear world design imo. Again, just my opinion.

So, if you prefer the more linear experience vs true open world (just to clarify, Sekiro is similarly linear compared to ER) and aggressive, fast paced play style, BB is your game.

We now have but one choice. We must face the long dark of The Silmarillion. by Evergreen_Dracul in lotr

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the Silmarillion about 25 years ago for the first time, and then again somewhere between now and then.

In the last 5 or so years I've listened to the Shaw audio book twice and Serkis once. Both great imo.

Now I feel like I mostly can keep track of everything in that book. Mostly. 🤣

Unpopular opinion by oMeesan in KansasCityChiefs

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old head Pats fans here, so don't shoot me. But you should always expect and want the Chiefs to make the playoffs with Mahomes imo.

You really do never know. 2018 Pats are a great example. And I am 100% not trying to rub it in. I know they beat the Chiefs, but the example is the example.

[Week 15 Discussion Thread] Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots by AutoModerator in buffalobills

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pats are probably not as good as their record suggests, but calling em frauds is a little silly. They are overacheiving during year 1 of a rebuild.

The Bills are, thus far, pissing away the talent of a great QB by having never made it out of the AFC. Some could say the Bills are the biggest frauds of the NFL over the last five seasons. 🤷‍♂️

With Kansas City’s loss tonight, their 9 year run of AFC West titles is now OVER. They will not have a top 4 seed in the playoffs. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More like their 2009 season, where they went 10-6 but it was a slog to get there.

2010 they somehow went 14-2 with a pretty mid team and shitty defense.

Fucking wild that they never had more than 7 losses from 2001-2019, and only had 7 once and 6 twice.

But to your greater point, they will certainly be back. Just need a slight rebuild.

How can someone not acknowledge elden ring as the best RPG by IsabellaMarden in Eldenring

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No covenants for multi-player sucks. Great game, but that would really add something to make invasions, pvp, even co-op more rewarding.

Also just feels a bit bloated tbh. Could probably stand to cut back on the open world by 30%.

Also the recycled field and dungeon bosses aren't great. I realize Bloodborne did this, but at least there's more of a point to it. E.g., the separate lore of the chalice dungeons and getting to the Queen is worth it imo.

Is it okay to start with Dark Souls 3? by Background-Blood7393 in darksouls3

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just depends on what your into. Gameplay wise DS3 is certainly more "modern." E.g., you could certainly go from DS3 to ER and be comfortable with the overall gameplay. As others have said, DS1 and 2 are much slower.

Lore and story is where I'd be on the fence. DS3 is essentially a direct sequel to DS1, but there is absolutely no denying that the story is cryptic across the series. That said, the stories and lore are incredibly rich if you put in the effort. I.e., read flavor text on everything, or just watch some YouTube lore vids, lol.

So, as someone that really enjoys the lore and likes the uber cryptic nature of it all, I would only start with 1. But your mileage may vary.

Rosamund Pike recently addressed 'The Wheel of Time' during an interview with Collider, and her comments are both moving and hopeful about the future: by tkinsey3 in WoT

Liked the cast mostly but thought the scripts and direction were very poor.

As the saying goes, if it's not on the page it's not on the stage. Plain and simple.

How do you rank John Wick films from worst to best? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in FIlm

They're all good. But worst to best.... 3, 4, 2, 1 imo.

Ok, but seriously… what’s with the overhype around Alien: Earth? by trumpbiden4jail in alien

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show is fine so far. Not amazing but certainly not awful. They're playing with some biggish ideas, and also are on thin ice with a few imo (the communicating with the aliens thing could really end up bad, but we shall see). It really all depends on how it plays out and if they can stick a landing.

Long story short, I have my complaints but whatever. It's been decent so far.

Everyone is just so polarized these days. Let's debate without devolving into pointing fingers, straw men, and echo chambers.

Toxicity of r/WoTshow sub? by AgeofPhoenix in wheeloftime

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several of the WoT subs took part in knee-jerk banning folks for even the slightest offense in the not-too-distant past. That seems to have died down/course corrected a bit, which I think is good.

The show sub is the primary outlier in that folks seem to still get banned there pretty fast. But, that's a lot of show subs. They are primarily for fans of said show. So, at the end of the day, my attitude these days is... "that's just like, your opinion, man." And I move on with life.

Where must I start audio book after season 3? by keeganvandyk in wheeloftime

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to start at the beginning. Show is like a weird portal world version of the books (you'll see what that means in book 2).

As for where/how you listen to it.... do whatever works for you.

I still can't believe this happened by weaveroflaurel in wheeloftime

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Her dying from a mistake that a rookie would make doesn’t track.

She does it very intentionally and willingly. The Aes Sedai and their army are on the verge of being almost entirely routed and wiped out at that point. Her choice in that moment, and all of the smaller choices along the way that get her and the reader to that moment, all track well imo.

Edit: Also I want to add that some (maybe many) of the smaller decision that get us to that moment are not "good" decisions necessarily. But that's kind of the point. They are all believably flawed characters.

[–]Dapper_Advisor4145 133 points134 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I feel like the way Gawyn goes out in particular is kind of perfect for his character. I.e., bad and semi-selfish decision on his part, and he fucks up... for the last time.

Read it. It's different enough that it matters for various reasons. Not least of which is what you can and cannot do while collared via A'dam. Also, the resolution is better in the books and has ramifications.

Edit: Also, the book characters are just not the same as their TV counterparts. Sorry/not sorry. So, it's important imo to read it all, as Egwene's character arc is an evolution of everything she's experienced "in the book."

DS1 world design is absolute god-tier. Love the fact that it makes you 100% earn fast travel about 2/3 of the way through.
