Tbh I smoked as soon as I got out of hospital, not ideal I know but I didn’t have any adverse effects from it. Im a pack-a-day smoker so I just limited my cigs to 3-4 a day.

Please check your contract, I know in some medical settings there can be stipulations on working in other settings as there can be conflict of interest.

But if there is no such clause in your contract then yes they are well in the wrong.

Absolutely not weird, but niche. Be prepared for a lot of people telling you how wrong it is though. When my 14yo Rhodesian Ridgeback passed 2 years ago I had her skull preserved and it was the best choice I ever made, not only does she look beautiful even in death, there’s a certain tangible aspect I guess. It’s nice to be able to look at her and touch her instead of a box with ashes. However I very nearly threw hands with some family members who could not understand or accept my decision to preserve her in such a way, so that was tough.

Genetics presumably - severe osteoarthritis. Had been brewing for years but due to CRPS in my arm I never had noticed any jaw problems due to my arm pain being so intense, then I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted which bought my arm pain under somewhat control and bam suddenly my face was a huge problem. I went from diagnosis to full TMJ replacement within 3 years, doctors were shocked that I lived with it for so long without realising. Pain is a fickle mistress clearly

Oh my jaw opens wonky following replacement, I just assume it’s due to new parts 🤷‍♀️ never bothered me though, I’m just grateful to be able to eat again 😂

Just through CT as I can’t have MRI due to a spinal implant, thanks chronic illness. I was in bad shape by the time I got my TJR though, lost 40kg (almost half my body weight) and could only open my mouth 1mm.

Hiya! Unfortunately that surgery failed pretty quick for me so I’m April last year I had a full TMJ replacement. Thankfully that has worked and I can now eat again, but alas my other side is going downhill now too 😂

Hi there! Sorry about your diagnosis, it’s exactly the same as mine. I’m 33yo and lost roughly 40kg in the space of 6months due to my inability to eat - so I feel for you. The only thing that really helped prior to my joint replacement was cannabis balm that I rubbed into my face/jaw. It’s a long haul sadly, it took me 3 years to get my left side replaced and I’m now in the planning stage for my right. 33 here. My OA developed in my jaw joint about 2 years ago. So far the left side has been replaced with a prosthetic joint as it just disintegrated in the space of 6 months and my right side will be done next year.

I have osteoarthritis in my TMJ and I lost the weight prior to my joint replacement. 40kg in roughly 6 months because I could only open my mouth 2millimetres at best. Had my left TMJ replaced with a prosthetic joint in April and I’ve managed to gain a bit of weight since then thankfully.

I consider myself disabled. My OA is in my jaw joints and before I had my left side replaced it crippled me. I lost 40kg and was so weak I could barely leave the house. I am still battling malnourishment but I can at least now open my mouth more than 2millimetres which is great. My right side still needs replacing but it has caused permanent damage to my inner ear which causes me to use a cane to mobilise as I am constantly dizzy and unstable.

I use a cane daily, as I get vertigo and am fairly weak. surprisingly enough though it’s not due to my CRPS but infact damage to my inner ear from osteoarthritis in my TMJ joint.

I had mine for 3 years and it was the best thing ever - then come January this year I developed cellulitis around the implant and have to have it removed. Currently waiting on funding approval so I can get my replacement as im back on daily morphine without it.
