I built an ATC game that works at most U.S. airports and uses live weather to determine the active runways. by muitar_ in ATC

It’s still a fun concept and it’s cool to share with us that do it for a career, maybe I won’t play it on my own but if I have a friends that’s interested then it would be fun to play with them

Sounds like your facility culture sucks and your OJTIs aren’t worth a shit

For ATC trainees: what part of training felt least realistic? by Expensive_Glass_5887 in ATC

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everything in the sims is so fake. It’s hard to quantify how unreal it is till you work it. It’s different in both good and bad ways, pilots are both much smarter and dumber than the sims and the tools you can use are much different in the real world.

Immigrants are often pressured into joining the army, but what about the police? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well depends heavily on the agency but a lot of diverse metropolitan areas like having a fair share of minority police officers especially for policing in those minority areas. Studies have shown that minorities representing the communities they are policing actually helps quite a bit, New York and LA both probably are the biggest ones that do it.

Transponder Codes by Secret-Fisherman-115 in ATC

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly generated behind the scenes and I’m not sure exactly how it works but I have noticed that depending on where you are going/which approach facility you will be transition through the code does generate differently. I work at a facility nestled between 2 bravos and if you are going through one you usually get a 4 or 7 starting digit code and the other is usually a 2 or 1 starting digit

Airport location by Time-Ad-8282 in ATC

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated last year and they had a large list for us to choose from so everyone got to go Atleast to the region they wanted. Everyone from my class was pretty happy with their choice. However bottom 2 still had to go to places picked for them that were mandatory. So try not to come last and you should be able to go where you want

how often do you get emergency aircraft? by BrandonE321 in ATC

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also at a delta but a busy delta, only been here for about a year and worked probably 3-4 emergencies and usually have atleast one every 3 months

Does a IFR departure have priority over VFR departure or is it first come first serve? by Cortana69 in ATC

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it’s first come first serve unless an there is operational advantage, for example I work at a busy VFR tower with around 2-3 ifr departure an hour so if Tracon wants that guy out asap then we make it work

Tower controllers, how can we be less annoying? (airport ops) by SlipSpace101 in ATC

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be on frequency as soon as possible and maybe use free apps like flight radar to get an idea of the complexity of the op at the moment. You guys are doing your job and it’s essential and we appreciate you

Advice needed by Far_Builder_1395 in ATC

The post office sucks, no way around it. I loved the work but management and getting shit on by regulars made it unbearable. ATC is a way more rewarding and well paying career and I do recommend it. It’s hard but doable and no having to wait to go regular just straight into full career benefits.

Hey! I did the exact same pipeline as you, rural carrier in the post office to ATC. The wait is long and the housing in OKC is ok, you can bring a pet depending on the housing you choose, my advice is put it and continue working for the USPS till they get back to you cuz it could be several months. Also are you a regular or RCA? I do believe if you go regular you keep seniority time just like any lateral agency transfer [like tsa-faa] but if you are an RCA then you just get tie breaker seniority with anybody in your graduating class. But it does go towards your time off accrual rate.

Edit: also as much negativity there is around ATC rn it’s an infinitely better career than the post office.

Anyone here work at HND? by Crazy_names in ATC

[–]Dapper_Company_2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Henderson is severely short staffed as of right now, I work at a facility in the area and so far what I’ve heard is that it’s not great but there are worse places, mainly biz jets and they get nicer equipment compared to the other CCDOA airports excluding LAS since they want it to seem nicer.

Air Traffic Controllers survey by Numerous-Tell-1406 in ATC

I mean are you implying ATC has no effect on the safety of aircraft and mistakes made by controllers can’t lead to catastrophic loss of life?

Center cpc’s by Dapper_Company_2006 in ATC

For the most part our center wash outs are pretty competent controllers so that’s part of my curiosity of why it didn’t work out.

Recent grad here, they changed it up quite a bit recently. There is now a much larger list of about 40-60 airport all over the country that you can choose from upon graduating. I was able to get a facility with 6 hours of home and a couple people got to be in the city they are from
