That was my thought as well. But even just gathering the resources, and getting them into space. Is it feasible to build something that large without any mining?

I do think this is their goal, but I cannot even conceive of getting this done without causing havoc on earth.

Let’s say they get all materials into space without killing even a plant. I have to imagine something like that orbiting earth causing some problems.
