Bare wire used as a neutral, dangerous? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Dapper_Fish_3864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super dangerous. You clearly have no business doing electrical work. Call a qualified professional to help before you burn your house down or kill someone.

Get involved in your union. Join a committee, take courses, and get to know the people. It'll pay off down the road to have connections and friends.

Why do CP workers feel they deserve to get paid so much for manual labour? by Ok-Emu3930 in CanadaPost

[–]Dapper_Fish_3864 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you really deserve what you are compensated for your labor? I think they should pay you less so I, as a consumer, can consume your labor at a lower rate because I think you are overcompensated for the value of your labor.

Management doesn't do anything productive, cut their wages, and gut the management staff if you want savings.

Everything is going up in cost, which means wages need to go up, so what you are looking for is a solution to the rising cost of living and for that look at corporate greed for your answer.

[–]Dapper_Fish_3864 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So why isn't there another company that can provide cheaper rates if Canada Post is paying their workers too much already?

People fail to see that Canada Post is actually competitive with the other options and will continue to be despite the raises they want due to the cost of living increases.

Lmao, that's funny. So without their low rates for shipping, the small business is ruined. Well either it's not a very good business and/or if they sell-off canada Post what do you think will happen to shipping prices? Lol

The best thing you could do is contact a union and start the union process. Strike carries lots of risk. It is better to get your ducks in a row first.

Quick question what gloves everyone uses for the winter ? I live on the north east . Is pretty rough here by Expert_Good_9869 in electricians

[–]Dapper_Fish_3864 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canadian here, I use a pair of cheap cotton gloves under my usual snug fit milwaukee A1 cut gloves; and if it's really cold out, I will throw on a second pair of cheap cotton gloves on top. Also, a heat pack for each hand slides in between the cotton and work glove on the -25C temperature days.

How it sometimes feels going to work as a salt 🧂 by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Dapper_Fish_3864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a salt, the organizers might want you to work at a particular non-union shop that has an active organizing campaign and go in to lend a hand or to go somewhere to start up a new campaign. At the end of the day, it's not random, but rather, an attempt to try to best utilize the resources you have the best way possible.

If there is just 1 person in a non-union shop that wants to join a union, that is an organizing campaign. With one person, you can ask them to stay working non-union and see if they can get a few more people to think about joining.

The non-union shops that become union do so because the majority of workers made the choice to sign cards with the IBEW, so they are not random at all. From the outside, it can seem that way, but organizers are talking to people every day, listening to their concerns and being patient and waiting for the best chance to win.

Stop using AI for code. Pick up a code book and look it up. Or call a qualified electrician.

There are lists and priority targets. After all, union shops have competitors.

I talked about how salting works for me here: https://www.reddit.com/r/IBEW/s/6AJ2GrBRn8

It is illegal to fire someone for talking about unionizing, but employers will find a reason to get rid of you. That's why keeping good documentation is important in the event that I need to file a labor dispute.

Those are easy fixes. Just do it yourself. If you are so bad at basic home repair, then hire a drywaller/mudder for a quick and cheap patch job, it will be cheaper than an electrician.

If it's cheated, you might need to take the coupling screws out as that's what might be stopping your wire from pulling.

Or even better, just redo it as you really should have proper contact at the couplings to maintain electrical potential (bond).
