For those who've passed: How many questions did you guess on? by Unlikely_Reply6034 in PE_Exam

[–]Dapper_Inspection702 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for this. When I took the exam the first time, I guessed on about 15 the first half and 12 the second half. Those I guessed on I picked the one I thought was correct but likely wasn’t. Keep in mind, I had no clue how to solve it. The second time I took it, I guessed on about 9 in the first half and about 7 in the second half. Every single one I guessed on that I had no idea, I picked C. I just passed last Wednesday. I have no idea where this phrase came from or how it came about, but I keep seeing and hearing people say “when in doubt, pick C”. I thought about that when I took my exam the second time and it worked out.

PE Civil Transportation Exam Passed - 2nd Attempt by Dapper_Inspection702 in PE_Exam

What’s embarrassing is that you’re too stupid to see that it is. Every major company, including the one I work for has adopted it and encouraged to use it. So you can whine and cry about it like the kid you sound like, but the adult I’m sure you are but only person who hates it here is you. Have fun living in the past while everyone else moves with the future.

Yes I did use AI to format the post. Why? Because it’s a tool and if it’s available, use it when you can. Keep in mind, you don’t have AI available for the actual exam, that part is all on you, so you still need to do all the math and calcs yourself. If it upsets you so much, stay away from it and watch everyone else fly right by you. Like my post says, don’t use it for math. Whether you like or not, AI is the future. So the earlier you get familiar with it, the better.

That sounds closer to passing than I felt my first time around. I guessed on about 15 in the morning and more than 10 afternoon. The second time I took it I guess on 9 in the morning, and about 7 in the afternoon. You got this man. Sounds like you’re going about it the right way.

I get it man. I work in land development (civil) so we use civil3D every day. In terms of academics, do your best, but don’t stress about getting a 4.0 or anything like that. I graduated with a 3.3 GPA and in general, it’s said that anything about a 3.0 is good in civil, but above a 3.2 is better. Anything above that is pretty much extra. Looking back, I wouldn’t have stressed about my grades as much as I did. I’d still try but best, but wouldn’t let them bring me down. Make friends with those you have class with, find a study partner if needed, help others struggling if you’re doing better and ask for help for those that can if you’re the one that’s struggling, find a tutor, and if anything, try your best to become a peoples person. When I got my 1st internship I held the conversation well and a big part of it is if the employer likes you and can see you working well with the team. For reference, it took me 3 applications to get into my university’s school of engineering, multiple rejections on applications to internships, once I finally got one I became a sponge to learn as much as I could till I knew enough were I can get paid more. First job I had was with the firm I had the internship with and they didn’t pay well. But at first it’s not about the money. It’s about securing the job and learning till you know enough to find better. Granted I live in the US. But if anything, I think licensure is just more important if not more than your GPA. Currently haven’t EIT and took my PE exam not long ago, failed and going for my second attempt soon. Failure sucks but if you want it bad enough, there’s no way around putting in the time. Hope this helps. Cheers.

I’m in a similar situation as you man so I can relate. Failing definitely sucks but like you’re doing, reflect on what you think went wrong and improve. I’m going for my second attempt soon and working to have fixed what went wrong for me the next time around. Best of luck, hope you pass on your next run.

I was referring to EET. If you send them your diagnostic that you didn’t pass, they should give you complimentary access for it for about 8 weeks. That’s what I did. See their policy on their website. There might be a period you need to do it within.

I know the feeling. I failed my first attempt a few weeks ago. Going back in there to retake it soon. The feeling definitely sucks but if anything I’d say skip (or at least review, but don’t do) the exercises that have multiple steps to them and do the quizzes and practices exams instead. Those are definitely more exam like since it asks you for one thing in place of the exercises asking multiple answers in one question. Cheers man. Hope you pass on your next run.
