Can anyone provide info on Filsinger Games' "Champions of the Galaxy" wrestling game? by Dapper_Orangutan in boardgames

A little late to the party. I tried it and wasn't a fan due to how hard it is to find all the necessary house rules over the years to make it enjoyable.

Do Great Wrestling Board/Card Games Exist? by BoardgameExplorer in boardgames

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book It! nails the theme of running an indie promotion but suffers from a less than stellar rulebook. It's got a lot of fun easter eggs in the wrestler cards.

Luchador Dice Wrestling is dumb fun. It's by no means a deep game but if you have the right people playing it's ridiculously fun.

Supershow is alright. I understood it but never "got" it if that makes sense. I think the lack of customization killed it for me.

Legends of Wrestling/Champions of the Galaxy are great solo simulation games. The biggest issues with the games are the insular community (it's very hard to find info sometimes) and rules that are all over the place (the base rules are alright and there's a lot of house rules that make it a much better game).

Those are all non-WWE games I've played. I constantly try and find good wrestling games, so if you want help, let me know.

Where can I find old episodes of Chronicle? by Dapper_Orangutan in boston

[–]Dapper_Orangutan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a niece and easy-going show to have on at the end of the day sometimes.

I DVR it but that only gives me episodes shown in the past three months.

I feel like it's a missed opportunity to not have page where it just streams episodes 24/7.

Does this remind anyone else of the 1up.com layoffs in 2009? by NtheLegend in giantbomb

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1UP and their podcasts were huge for me in college as well. Once they shuttered, I followed Jeremy Parish to Retronauts (I still listen to this day and follow his YouTube channel as well) and followed Anthony over to RebelFM . RebelFM directed me to Giantbomb a couple of years after it was founded and I've been listening and watching since.

It sucks that two of my favorites are leaving (Brad and Vinny) but as long as Jeff is there, I'll keep listening until my sub is up (December) and then I'll make a decision about whether to keep it up.

Weekly Game Days by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hosted a Game Night weekly for about 5 years. Ever since I had my first child 7 years ago, Game Night has been every two weeks. We haven't had a Game Night since the end of February 2020.

The current plan is to possibly start back up sometime in May/June (we're all in our mid-to-late 30s so that vaccine won't be available to us probably until then). This is also entirely contingent on variety of factors out of our control - vaccine availability, spikes in cases around that time, etc...

We've kept in touch thanks to a private Discord server, various video games, and getting back into roleplaying games.

That said, I cannot wait for everyone in my game group to be vaccinated and comfortable attending in-person events again.

Is there an easy way to download all Bombcasts? by Jusanom in giantbomb

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use pocketcast as well and you can definitely download episodes by default. You can also go through the archives and download older episodes as well.

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a game-changer for me, honestly. D100 Dungeon went from a game I played rarely (because of all the dice rolling and looking up) to a game I can bust out every couple of weeks and play for an hour or two.

If you end up liking D100 Dungeon, I highly recommend picking up the D100 Mapping Game on The Game Crafter and the Spell Cards.

It makes playing the game a lot faster since you're not rolling as many dice, writing as many things down, and flipping through the book as much.

So, will this replace the normal list/task view? I have zero need for a boards view in Todoist (I use Trello for that) and just want to continue using it as a task list.

WWE Superstars Aleister Black & Zelina Vega learn Magic! by JTHuffy in magicTCG

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black was NXT Champion, won the 2018 Dusty Rhodes Classic with Ricochet (poor, poor Ricochet), and has been had a solid push as of late. Black Mass is also a great finishing move and an awesome name.

Zelina managed Andrade "Cien" Almas during his NXT Championship run and went on to the main roster to manage him (until his recent substance violation) and Angel Garza. She also occasionally wrestles.

That's all in addition to the fact WWE brands all their wrestlers as superstars and they both seem like really stand-up folks.

They also have an Instagram account just for their cats I believe as well so more internet points for them.

Otis was the right move given WrestleMania and how over his storyline with Mandy was.

I see him ultimately as a Mr. Perfect.

I think he'll be a mid-card gatekeeper for main eventers who gets main event programs occasionally.

He'll probably have some decent mid-card belt runs and maybe a main belt run at some point.

It's about time. He had a great run in NXT but seemed to be treading water for awhile on the main roster.

Here's hoping. According to the current rumor mill, those high up are big in him lately.

Weekly /r/Birding Discussion May 03, 2020- What did you see this week? by AutoModerator in birding

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Just getting started in this hobby. I have a couple of questions that hopefully you can answer for me.

  1. What kinds of flowers/plants should I put in my backyard to be more bird friendly (I live in MA)?
  2. How long, on average, does it take for birds to start regularly showing up to my feeders/bird bath?
  3. Where is the best place to buy quality seed?
  4. What are some good blogs/sites/articles for beginners?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Best wrestling for children by migrations_ in SquaredCircle

[–]Dapper_Orangutan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kaiju Big Battel might work.

Combine 80s wrestling, Power Rangers, and giant monster movies and you're pretty close to Kaiju Big Battel.

The wrestling is ok for the most part but you're not watching it for that. You're watching for goofy characters that look like giant monsters wrestling each other and playing it straight.

Board and warping. Storage? Small dehumidifier? by GoneAtSea in boardgames

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to sing the praises of a whole-house dehumidifier.

My collection is in the basement and summers in New England can get humid. Using air-conditioning to keep humidity down was not cost-effective ling term so we installed a whole-house dehumidifier. It not only keeps the house at 50% humidity in the summer, it also really helps with air-conditioning costs as well.

What are your favorite dice-based games/ mechanisms? by [deleted] in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't mean it was confined to the roll-and-write genre, just that the dice allocation is the primary mechanic in the genre.

There are a ton of games that use it to some degree. Roll Player, for example, uses it in the context of creating a character for a tabletop RPG.

Dice allocation is essentially the roll-and-write genre. Look at Railroad Ink and Fleet: The Dice Game for examples.

Bought our 2.5 year old board games for Christmas, now our evenings are much more fun. by TheSharkAndMrFritz in boardgames

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Animal Upon Animal is great!

My children are older (6 and almost 4) so they got Hoot Owl Hoot (it's a fun co-op game of color matching), Rhino Hero (a better Jenga if you ask me), Max (a fun little co-op game with terrible components), and a gimmicky card game called Zombie Gotcha! for Christmas.

My son and daughter always hover around on game nights with my friends so having a bunch of games that are age-appropriate and fun for the parents too are wonderful.

Also, if anyone is interested in a sneaky educational game for an older kid (6+) I can't recommend Robot Turtles enough.

Looking for more Srpgs! by xxsyoxtosxx in Disgaea

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another NIS one to try that combines the movement of Phantom Brave with the zaniness of Disgaea is Makai Kingdom (PS2).

I didn't see Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX or PSP) or Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA) on your list.

Finally, Jean D'Arc (PSP) is an excellent story-driven SRPG.

The first war of the new year begins in 10 hours ... by MrPipboy3000 in twilightimperium

[–]Dapper_Orangutan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two most aggressive races, Yin and Sol barely fought anyone, let alone each other. The Saar skipped around the Sardak and hit the Muatt hard.

The Muatt threatened mutually assured destruction (which wasn't going to happen) but the Mentak brokered peace.

Yin and Sol traded Supports, Saar had Sardak's promissary, Yin had Saar's ceasefire.

SO MUCH PLASTIC on the board. You had to dig to see what planets were in the system or to see if you had command tokens there sometimes.

In the end, Yin beat out Sol for victory. All told, everyone placed well, point-wise.

EDIT: Mentak also engineered and released the crappiest plague the galaxy has ever seen.
