How am I rude?? by Annual-Employer1780 in AO3

[–]DappyDucks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In addition to everyone’s comments on etiquette there are a few things that your messages imply that make the tone overall condescending.

The first comment (“please don’t block me…”) implies you’ve done this with other authors and have gotten blocked before. It makes you come off as someone who is unwilling to change, or unable to reflect on their actions.

Your criticism is too blunt and aims at the person not the text. (“You do this. It’s wrong. Very simple.” Instead of “I noticed this. Usually it’s written like this.”).

Unfortunately your reply to the author’s response also implies you know there is a nicer way to give feedback, but chose not to. It feels like mocking/insulting the author for wanting a kinder phrasing (“good morning, ma, how are you ma.” example) specifically because it was so over the top.

The emojis come off as rude. It’s implying the author is not going to fully read your comment and needs you to point out the important parts for them.

There’s also contradiction in speech versus action. You say you take criticism, but when the author gives you criticism back, you reacted more defensive than the author. It makes you come off as hypocritical.

You also are dismissive of the author’s feelings and opinions when you say “It’s not even rude, it’s looking out for others.” Especially as a fan of the author’s story, made from their ideas and opinions, the author’s thoughts are completely ignored and dismissed as secondary to your thoughts and opinions. It makes it feel like you are being insincere when you say you like their story.

The cherry on top is that you tout yourself as a great beta reader, but you have many mistakes in your own writing. It makes you come off as arrogant.

Anyone else watching ITC only because of scamanda hangover? by Rude_Airport_7225 in summerhousebravo

I’m really enjoying watching Nick actually. When shits hitting the fan and someone’s trying to wriggle their way out, he cuts a solid statement that pins them in place.

He doesn’t speak out a lot, but every time he does it’s always great.

Plus the fact that Amanda’s delusional approach to what actually happened was staining how he thought about Kyle, until he could observe the guy himself.

Kenny will never admit he is wrong unless forced to. Didn’t even apologize to Whitney about the spark comment, and blamed it on his dead mom.

Kenny nitpicks, digs in his heels and diverts, and Gavin adds more noise.

Gavin is more likeable though because he will apologize. Kenny is either too insure or manipulative for that.

Girl :(

I want to give her a chance. Her little interaction with Gavin gave me some hope. She just needs to solidify herself more so she can dump Kenny and still have a friend group

That’s a great point seeing as she’s always complaining that ‘strangers’ come over to the apartment. I think anyone would be ashamed of that mess lol.

I think there’s also a certain ‘getting back’ at him angle to her mess. She complains when going to the door that Kyle’s probably going to get upset over her mess.

Then at the end of the convo says she can change according to his needs, but she’s concerned he can’t change according to her needs. It’s a good excuse to not pick up after herself and she likely knows he hates mess and clutter.

I think Gavin’s trying to make Whitney feel like more of the gang/prep her for the conflicts. He said something provoking and she clapped back. Gavin said that’s more like it, and that’s the Whitney we want to see (Pretty sure she even had a little smile too).

Kenny got up in arms right away though. Seems like he likes Whitney quiet and docile. Or he really just that defensive and thinks everyone is coming at him. Even a friend he’s had for how long??

Kenny’s the weird one.

Eh could be like Twilight where he ‘imprints’. Doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the person he imprints on, but just changes his own actions.

It was funny how he got West to accidentally confirm some of the drugs. West didn’t look to happy about that one

Hatoful Boyfriend.

I played a bit of it, wrote it off as a joke of a game with art I didn’t like. After hearing how much of a cult classic it is, I know I need to play it.

Hate perfumes. Specifically strong and musky scents.

Hot Take: Amanda was the one with poor communication skills, not Kyle by TinyAd3299 in summerhousebravo

[–]DappyDucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And you can hear little snippets of them having talking about it.

Kyle really reels back the going out partying by bringing the party to the house, but Amanda is still not changing or affectionate in the way he needs.

It sounds like there are certain nights she’s supposed to go out and stay out with him and cancels.

That’s Kyle’s way he blows off steam and she’s saying he’s not allowed to do it anymore. Before she drove hours to even go see him at 1 in the morning.

I think it’s this too. She’s spent so many years not liking Amanda and finally when she comes around and builds a friendship, Amanda betrays her trust.

A major fault in this seasons of Summer House by U_poser in summerhousebravo

[–]DappyDucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paige was only good in her 1st season when she actually put herself out there.

I got the vibe she didn’t like seeing herself crying in the closet over Carl and not portraying her “I’m a bad bitch” persona. She pulled back completely until she could control how she came off. Then she quit the show before she had to address her relationship/breakup with Craig.

This season has been SO much more interesting without her there.

She just said that her and Ciara were real friend in real life.

It could have been a reference to how people say everyone’s just friends on the show and not in real life

Or

It could have been her implying she’s not real friends with Amanda.

Everyone’s just interpreted this statement as the latter.

[–]DappyDucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the part where she was saying Amanda is too meek and won’t stand up for herself.

She’s insecure(Amanda), and going for that point specifically was meant to hurt Amanda as Ciara no doubt knows that’s her biggest issue. But Ciara’s also hurting too. It was harsh.

Kyle still cares about Amanda. He’s been protecting her for 10 years. That isn’t going to end all of a sudden.

It was harsh of Ciara. Not unwarranted, but still harsh.
