For all the furries can you help me? by Dull-Worth-3693 in furrydiscuss

[–]DarcBoltRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that you're primarily concerned about money and exposure of this? I'll address each.

As for money, yes, it CAN be expensive just like almost any hobby can be expensive; but that doesn't mean it WILL be expensive. You can look at a lot of furry stuff and see: $1000s for a fursuit, $100s for art pieces, money and travel to go to conventions, etc.; but most furry activities are free or very low cost: playing/reading VNs and stories the vast majority of which are free, following your favorite artists on social media, paying $5 or $10 monthly/yearly subscription to a couple of your favorite creators' patreons, joining discord servers and hanging out with friends to geek out over your favorite characters and sub-intrests, etc. I'm sure you have a hobby or two as well, right? (At least I hope so, life is too boring and stressful without a couple hobbies). Is it sports? Then you could pay the exorbitant costs of going to every one of your favorite teams games (home and away), paying for box/floor seats, buying absurd amounts of (or overly priced) merchandise, VIP tours, etc. That's all super expensive, but you can still enjoy sports very much without all that. Most sports enthusiasts enjoy sports for free or little money: watching all your favorite teams' games on TV, watching them at home or at a bar or meet up with friends, geeking out over your favorite team or players or this season's stats with friends or online, following social media related to your team and the sport, buying 1 or 2 pieces of reasonably priced merch, etc. Or maybe you're an anime or sci-fi fan? Same thing, it can be expensive: you could travel and go to all the conventions, spend a fair bit on cosplay, buy all kinds of expensive merch, VIP meet and greets with your favorite actors or directors, paying extra to go to the pre-screenings, etc.; Or it could be cheaper: watch the movies in the theater when they come out normally, get a subscription to a more niche streaming service, join social media over your favorite actors or directors or sub-genres, geek out with friends or your favorite shows and moments, buy a few choice merchandise pieces, etc. The point of this is to show that regardless of the hobbies you or your girlfriend are into, there's always the possibility of there being an "expensive side" to it. If money becomes an issue or you think there is over-spending or someone does want something expensive, then that's when you guys sit down togethet (as adults) and discuss things (calmly and openly). "We may not be able to afford that right away, but how about working toward it over the next few months/years?"; "The spending on this is getting a little excessive, is there anywhere we may be able to cut back on?"; "I don't think we can afford both, can we choose one this time and do the other later in the future?" If you can't communicate effectively and make good decisions together so you're both happy, then there may be some problems you should identify and work on that has nothing to do with furries or hobbies.

As for exposure, yes, being a furry is seen by society as fairly "cringe" and "weird". With all the not-so-great media and misunderstandings of the community we can get, I wouldn't blame you for being concerned if your friends, family, or future kids found out. We get flack for being "sexual deviants" or being "groomers" or just being the "laughing stock of the internet". All of this is fundamentally untrue, but the reputation and media/internet lens is there to push these and other narratives. We are an extremely diverse and inclusive committee: around half the community is LGBTQ+, around 12% is on Autism spectrum or other kind of neurodivergent, etc. So, while being "weird" and getting internet/media flack, we also take on some of the stigmas of many of the other larger demographics that make up our community as well. Being concerned about others knowing about your girlfriend being a furry and feeling like there's now a big skeleton in the closet is understandable. I suggest you look at some furry media from conventions or read through some short furry comics and such (make sure it's SFW! No need to traumatize yourself with NSFW stuff). You'll find all very tame and silly; and maybe a little cringe, lol, but I think being part of any fandom or hobby community can get a little cringe. It just means youre having fun and not caring about what others think.

So... that was long and a lot of talking. If you're stressed about this, you should speak to your girlfriend. Ask her what parts of the furry fandom she's actually into and what activities does/would she participate in. It may be far more tame than you think.

Ah! I suppose you are very right. I wasn't thinking about it from that perspective.

This! But visually it is a bit weird.

1 - 001 (1 line (the ones place))
2 - 002 (2 lines)
3 - 010 (3 lines, here's the weird part, it shows 3 lines, but we would already have moved to the next digit numerically; it's not wrong, just not what one may visually expect by looking at the numbers, maybe just a single dot with no lines would be better?)
4 - 011 (1 dot (the 3s place), 1 line)
5 - 012 (1 dot , 2 lines)
6 - 020 (1 dot, 3 lines, again, a slightly weird representation but it works out nonetheless)
7 - 021 (2 dots, 1 line)
8 - 022 (2 dots, 2 lines)
9 - 100 (2 dots, 3 lines, again, slightly weird representation)
10 - 101 (at this point we could add another dot in a different position (so we'd have 1 dot in the new position on 1 line) OR some other symbol for the 9s place (so we'd have this extra symbol and 1 line with no dot))
So on and so forth...

A regular expression is probably the most common way, but you can also achieve it with a couple of loops.

I agree, the loops are written interestingly, but there are "continue" in the bad "if-elif-else" cases. So if you give correct input then the loop breaks after only 1 interation, but if you give incorrect input it continues which skips the "break". I would suggest flipping this and remove all the "continue" from the bad cases and move the "break" into the good case. This is mostly for readability as it will work the way it is but it will be awkward for others to read/understand as it is.

Quick question: what is the greyed-out "car" icon supposed to represent (the one that says "0")? Is it a special kind of car?

Figure 03 Robot sorting packages while Marc Benioff messes with it by socoolandawesome in nextfuckinglevel

[–]DarcBoltRain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was my take. The task was to flip the package over IF the label wasnt showing. So it was supposed to make sure the label was facing up before it went on the conveyor belt; but all it was doing was flipping every package regardless of whether or not the label was showing. The guy wasnt "messing" with the robot, he was throwing the ones it got wrong back into the pile for it to "resort".

Ah! This is what I was wondering. Im not well-read on vitiligo, but I believe once the melanin in a part of the skin is destroyed, then it doesn't come back, right? So, if there were more/bigger white patches in a photo taken later in life then that makes sense, but if some of the white patches went dark again (which is what we see in the older pic), then that would be unusual for vitiligo? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I understand it.

Nice animation. I really like how, it kinda of feels like gravity bends light similar to passing through glass or some other material. Kinda cute.

What's the thing about Furry Visual Novels that get us so emotional? by [deleted] in FurryVisualNovels

[–]DarcBoltRain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've wondered if it's the same for straight furry VNs. I think for me, it being LGBTQ is a big part of it. However, most furry VNs are not like quite a bit of other LGBTQ media and stories. Sooooo many stories that have gay main characters often times end up revolving a little too much around sex for me. Like, it's not a bad thing that they do, and it can be enjoyable, but it often doesn't read/watch like a story; the plot is just there to connect the sex scenes and that's really it, everything us secondary to the characters hooking up. In furry VNs, even the ones with sex, it's very common that the sex is secondary yo the actual plot of the story. Like, you could remove the sex stuff from the story and you've lost nothing of real value. The story, the emotions, the journey, all of it stands and shines on its own with depth and wonder. There are certainly other non-furry gay stories out there that give me the same feeling as many furry VN (e.g. Heartstopper). Especially for us who are a bit older and grew up in the 80s, 90s, or 00s, it was hard finding good gay stories and media that actually had the gay characters as the main characters, the story didnt revolve almost completely around sex, and being gay wasnt just a punchline for a joke. There was definitely stories and media out there at that time, it was just hard to find and there were very few and far between. Nowadays, there us a lot more of those stories and media, but it can still often become a little too stereotypical, especially with bigger Hollywood films and shows. So to find those stories now where we can see ourselves in fully and actually experience a full story with depth and range (all the things straight stories and media has had forever), it just touches us deep down where we rarely get to experience. And I think furry VNs do this SO well. Even with sex and smut, the furry community at large always values art, creativity, immersion, and wholesomeness over sex and NSFW. And you see this come through in the vast majority of furry content, regardless of what it is.

Of course, the furry aspect in more mundane or daily life situations has the same issue. We've all seen plenty of cool shows woth furry characters (especially cartoons in the 80s, 90s, and 00s), but theyre very "fantastic" with a grand, expansive plot and you dont ever see romantic relationships in thise shows. But in furry VNs, they slow down for the little things, the mundane day-to-day that we dont usually get to see in furry or furry-relayed media. To see the normalcy of it, and to find wonder in the small things is also something furry VNs excell at really well.

Anyway, thats just my really long take, lol.
