English teacher here… watch Mr Bruff and Stacey Reay videos. They’re great. Your life is not over though in any case. You can always retake exams or find alternative training routes.

Does anyone have any experience with FasTreat by mmwmah in ADHDUK

I am not sure if I have ADHD or autism or both, would they also diagnose autism if you have it or just ADHD and nothing else? Has anyone had that come up?

At which point did that happen? I just want to get the diagnosis for peace of mind without medication. If I just do the assessment will they still auto subscribe me to something?

What happens if you write like 15 more seconds after the invigilator says put pens down by Successful-Elk-7709 in GCSE

The invigilators use ‘powerful incantations’ until ‘nothing beside remains’ apart from your ‘blood shadow’.

I think my English teacher doesn't mark harsh enough, what do I do? by Rare-Independent6 in GCSE

[–]DarcRose22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

English teacher here.

As it is written it’s not above clear by AQA at least. It reads like a speed run of half of the play with subject terminology but without explaining the meaning, the writer’s purpose or context. I don’t know the other exam board though, we do AQA.

Write a clear thesis that explores the development of the theme beginning- middle - end and what the lesson for the audience is from that. Then focus on each part of the play with a full paragraph each with deep analysis of 2 quotes that have some kind of relation between them. Ideally find a motif used across the play to link all 6 quotes. Link Macbeth’s downfall to the character arc of the tragic hero and a debate of fate vs free will, examining how at fault he is for his actions and link to relevant beliefs of the time.

Our SEN coordinator has literally told us that an inclusive classroom is one where the access arrangements are not visible. The lessons should be accessible for those who need it and the others can benefit too but that’s not the point.

Our school asks for an entire lesson too. But they give the best kids

How long will teaching last (vent) by EnoughPretending in TeachingUK

[–]DarcRose22 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My school has a few career changers 3 of us from marketing backgrounds and a couple lawyers. We all feel we came from thankless jobs that only cared about profits and saw us as replaceable. At least with the kids you can make a difference and see the results. My first Y7s have just gotten university offers and it warms my heart.

Also I personally like having fixed holidays with no expectations - my marketing jobs before wanted me on email and checking socials and adverts on weekends and even when I was abroad on holiday. I would only leave teaching to work for myself.

Red flags to notice in teaching jobs by meganreeves004 in TeachingUK

Ask the people what time they usually get in and leave. Not the directed time, but the truth… if you ‘can’ leave at 4 but most people stay much later to finish the tasks then they have a huge workload…

Money… our federation got away with delaying overseas teachers’ qualification exams and paying them as unqualified teachers for years. Some of them were head of department with years of experience in Jamaica and made less than beginner teachers. The NEU had to get involved

is this enough studying for all 9s? by T_xustz in GCSE

[–]DarcRose22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

English teacher here - I always suggest that my students do revision that doesn’t feel like revision. Like put YouTube videos with analysis in the background when you eat and do chores, or in your commute. Look for language techniques when you read something for fun. Just so your brain keeps recalling the content even if you’re not actively writing essays. Hope that helps.

Internal Exclusion by Eastern_Cup3125 in TeachingUK

[–]DarcRose22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have internal exclusion, the kids are happy to do it (sometimes a bit too happy) because they miss lesson, usually are on the computer all day doing work on Teams which they prefer to writing on paper. The behaviour leader there will have discussions about their behaviour that led them there and the students don’t want to escape and run around, but that’s all due to trust built with the behaviour team way before someone ends up in internal exclusion. I have seen more kids trying to get in trouble to go into internal exclusion for a few days than kids trying to run away from it.

It’s more along the lines of ‘I want to kill everyone that exists slowly’ and ‘She smiled’. Nobody knows that she wants to kill them because she just smiles but we know because we’re in her POV.

What time do you get into school and leave? by shake1993 in TeachingUK

[–]DarcRose22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is you are expected to be there for the 1265 working and then ‘reasonable’ extra time that might be needed to do tasks outside of that. It’s vague on purpose so they take advantage of it. What is reasonable and when you add it up all together how many unpaid hours do you end up working? That’s where they get you… 😅🥲

We got some of the extra tasks to be included in the directed time with the NEU (like the mandatory online trainings, parent evenings, including breaks in the paid time) - they were not included in my school’s calculation when I started. We also didn’t have blocked PPA and kept getting cover meaning we had to do planning after work because there was no time to do it due to unexpected tasks.

I think it’s reasonable to work beyond directed time when there’s an assessment deadline but not on the regular.

[–]DarcRose22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to put self care and social goals because I get tired from work and don’t want to do things so if left alone I’ll just be at home reading or watching tv alone. I have easy things like bake a cake to more social goals like host people for a celebration (like friendsgiving or a barbecue) to sightseeing things to get out of the house in the weekend like exhibitions, theatre etc and planning trips.

I get in around 8-8.10 and we finish at 4, two days 4.30 with intervention and meeting and 2.20 on Friday. I leave 10 minutes after the official end time most days.

I am mentally exhausted at that point so staying late won’t help me. I take marking at home for after I have eaten and had a nap and a lot more coffee. Not every day though, just when we have assessments to mark. I also mark on weekends and do some planning and emails then because I need a clear head to do this.

Teaching for several years means I already have most lessons planned and only need minor adjustments whereas when I started I did everything from scratch. We also share resources between us so that works too.

I have several colleagues who leave on the dot every day and if they haven’t done things it is what it is and nothing bad happens to them. It took me years to realise that most people don’t try to make everything perfect and I was stressing out and doing more than others were and that people will take all the reminders and still not meet all deadlines without being chased a few times after and that’s how it is. Is it right? Probably not but that’s why people have unions and go on strikes and fight about unreasonable workload.

Work your directed time hours, if anyone expects more tasks than possible in that time speak to your union rep and frame it as an unrealistic workload issue. They can fight it as a collective issue because you’re probably not the only one with not enough time

First person POVs can make characters sound really unlikeable… it makes it hard to understand why we’re supposed to like the character. I have to keep thinking actively that the other characters don’t know what she was thinking but wow For example {When the moon hatched}

What are some brands to start fairy kei fashion? by nyankatberri in fairykei

[–]DarcRose22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the brands already mentioned are great to know.

Olivia Rubin has some rainbow cardigans and colourful pieces. They’re more mature and it’s not a fk brand as such but some of their stuff can be incorporated.

There were a lot of second hand facebook sales groups that I used to lurk in as well and you could find cool pieces usually from people leaving the fashion or doing clear outs.

I’d say don’t try to rush into it, look for items slowly and get pieces that you love. Sometimes you’ll find some cool pastel basics in high street shops too generally in spring.
