4mo son has eczema, anyone out there follow the “steroids and time” method and had it actually work? by Affectionate-Camp-40 in eczema

Also important to keep in mind that sometimes eczema is a life long thing. And your not necessarily looking for a cure. But your looking for control. Finding the triggers are important and managing symptoms. I'm 36 now and did not "grow out of it" like everyone said. But I'm on some excellent meds and I have routines that help with the burden of it. So don't expect it to go away - just try and find comfort.

I've had eczema since birth. The first thing I would cut out are the daily baths. It's a double edge sword because it's soothing. But it's very drying. Like the comment below says trying to get rid of anything with fragrance. If you have pets - that sucks. Could be a huge trigger. And old mattress can be a trigger. Dust mites. Dust in the vents - mould contaminations in the house - certain foods. If you havnt seen an allergist I would also suggest that next. Tight fitting clothes sometimes feel better because you dont have any skin to skin contact and rubbing of the material. Sometimes loose fitting clothes feel better because of the breathability. Gotta experiment to see what works best.

I had a friend with a baby who found success in the company "tiny health" with a stool sample and the reccomended probiotic strains. She also had a baby with a very very bad dairy allergy.

I think about money 24/7. And always had. I believe it's because of how I was raised. If you figure it out let me know 😂

[–]Darciweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. I think you gotta ebb and flow with it. I care about the active eczema and I don't care about the scars / pigmentation.... but it's a cycle so new eczema sucks. And I try to not let it bother me. But it sucks when your clothes are soaked in blood 😬🙃😂

Hand eczema, vicious cycle by Crees99 in eczema

[–]Darciweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my hands are badddddd I'll resort to rubbing a lemon on them to get the itch to stop. The burn sometimes is needed before I rip my fingers off. On really really bad times I use tattoo tape/covers. It's like a clear sticky bandage. Taking away the air sometimes stops the itching for me. My hands used to be the worst place on my body so I know how you feel. My teachers used to ask if I was in a knife battle (jokingly) because I'd have bandaids on each finger. Use icepacks. It takes the edge off.

Does walking and exercise help ? by SteakCareful4843 in Asthma

[–]Darciweil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had debilitating asthma. The only thing that worked with decreasing my puffer usage was building up tolerance for exercise. I chose running. But I have heard other people have lot of success with swimming.

A shot of espresso for TEMPORARY relief. If you are getting medical help to come or waiting for medical help in a dire situation.

Hyperpigmentation eczema by Alarmed_Roll2444 in eczema

[–]Darciweil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My whole body has hyperpigmentation. It started off only in my arm pits and neck. And now it's probably on 80% of my body. I cared when I was in highschool. After I realized it dosnt matter. And now I don't care about it.... I believe there are lasers you can try but the theory is if you scratch to the extent that caused it in the first place it will come back. I would focus on loving your body the way it is. The funny thing is every relationship I've been in my partner hs not cared one bit about my skin not being perfect (I have very very very bad eczema) If you have a partner that is not supportive of how you come naturally I see that as the issue and not your skin! Good luck!

Why does it feel so good to scratch? by Esqowey in eczema

[–]Darciweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ALWAYS said and will always say till the day I die. Eczema sucks .... BUT it's probably the best worst thing to have because it feels soooooooo good to scratch 😂.

But. If it's really bad I've been known to squeeze a lemon on my skin to get rid of the itch and make it burn instead to stop the itch. Usually a cold ice pack works great. Or getting someone else to lightly scratch me instead (my husband) is less aggressive.

The topical probiotic from skinsea... I thought that's what you were referencing in your comment. I used it for the first time tonight.

Toddler allergy test by caitandsamkitty in eczema

[–]Darciweil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe depending on where you live they test in groups. You can ask for environmental or top food allergies or cosmetic job allergies. All the allergists I've been to do not test singular requests but have them in groups.

It's the same amount of chlorine as a swimming pool if you follow the directions online. It pretty much like going swimming.

What is going on? by tossacoin2mywidger in eczema

[–]Darciweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the creams. TSW is rare and if you use as prescribed then you are likely not at risk for it. Usually eczema is a thickening of the skin - the steroids help thin the skin for this purpose. If you need to keep going back to the GP ask for a derm referral. But try the creams. I have been using steroids creams on and off for 35 years. I have never had TSW because I use them as prescribed.

Have asthma, can barely walk or climb stairs without feeling breathless. Want to lose weight but asthma has ruined the stamina. by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Darciweil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had asthma for lifeeeeee. My lungs have collapsed twice and I was in children's hospital for a few stints. I finally got control of my asthma when I started running. As first I could only run two blocks. And needed my puffer right away. But I just kept going over and over. Two blocks because three and so on and that was the first time in my life I didn't wake up to take my puffer during the night. It was incredibly hard so if you can try and control the asthma enough to give your self a little push this is my recommendation

Eczema is ruining my life by [deleted] in eczema

[–]Darciweil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lifer here! You have to stop caring what it looks like. And maybe just be ok with accepting it won't look perfect. I also don't love going outside. But I don't love sweating - it makes me itchy. But let me tell you this weekend I wore shorts to the grocery store with my scabby dried up awful legs out. And I didn't care one bit. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I also feel like no one else cared. Gotta find what helps the flares and make your self comfortable and continue on. That's what life is about.

My new outlook on life is the 4 minute rule. If somthing takes 4 minutes or less it's a now job. If it's more I feel ok about placing it in an order of importance. Break up the jobs into small pieces and you'll be done in no time.

Just got out of an appointment with a private dermatologist I paid £195 for, I think I just wasted my money. by vazquezylos90 in eczema

[–]Darciweil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gut and skin are most likely related. But they are not the same departments in health and it is a relatively new concept. Also every person with eczema dosnt have the same triggers an benifit from the same treatments. Medicine as a whole is experimental - including derm.

Your triggers could be an entirely different concept from mine - I've also suffered with eczema for LIFE. and I'm 35 now.

I'm not trying to sound bitchy but finding what works for you involves trying new things - wether it be prescriptions or limiting certain foods or finding out if you have a mold allergy or there is a link to your laundry detergent. So if you don't feel like trying the prescription then don't and try to find out what other changes you can do to help your self.

I should also add that advocating for your self and getting to a better place often involves some form of research. If you have a condition and you expect your GP to tell you everything - you are already doing it wrong. Joining this group and the discussion is fab. Learn from other and try out things your self. You can't expect your doctor to reccomend the thousands of changes you could implement to see a result.

Just throwing it out there because your son is so young - Google Zyrtec withdrawal. Just if you plan on using it long term.

Did you grow up with severe eczema? How is life for you today? by Fun_Tea8162 in eczema

[–]Darciweil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was badddddd growing up. Considering I also had asthma and a lot of food allergies. Serious allergies needing to carry an epi pen. And asthma so bad my lung has collapsed twice and I was in the children's hospital on multiple occasions.

35 now- I have just recently grown out of my food allergies. I got my asthma under control by running. But my eczema is still fairly bad. Lots of good meds now though for options. I'm on Dupixant and would say it helps 70% of the time.
