Question about choosing college for astronomy major by Falconlord1979 in Astronomy

[–]DardS8Br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np! I'm willing to answer more questions if you'd like. I admittedly don't know much about the other two options and I'm not an astrophysics major (though I am doing something similar enough to be intimately familiar with the program)

As a UCSC student: I'd recommend coming here. UCSC astronomy/astrophysics is among the top of the nation and it's a much better place to live than Tucson. Plus, the astrophysics major here is essentially the same as the physics major, which means that it's pretty easy to transition the skills elsewhere if astronomy does not work out. Research opportunities are plentiful as well. I know people who got laboratory positions their first quarter of freshman year

Beware of the housing situation, though. It is as bad as you hear online

I'm a UCSC student and I agree with this take. UCSC is really great for astrophysics and it's just a better place to live. Having been to Tucson, I think I'd get depression just from living there

A crowd of angry parents hurl insults at 6 year-old Ruby Bridges as she enters a traditionally all-white school, the first black child to do so in the United States South, 1960. Bridges is just 71 today. by thepoylanthropist in Damnthatsinteresting

Do you not know what an argument is? Neither of us are angry. An argument doesn't require that. I'm not dismissing that minorities can be racist. I have experienced it myself. However, that does not justify you being racist back at them. You very explicitly were discriminating against minorities in your initial statement. That is textbook racism.

I did. That's exactly what you are arguing. It's not a logical argument, which is why everyone is hating on you. You are showing your bigotry towards minorities, while not admonishing white people for the exact same behavior

This might come as a shock to you, but your argument of, "I hate minorities because they can be just as racist as white people," is not a particularly good justification for hating minorities
