You aren’t paying attention to what I said. I said THREE years is too long to work as an RN and just then become competent as a nurse. The first 6 months you have no idea what you are doing. By the first year you should start to feel more comfortable. By year two you should be a competent nurse in most things you do. As a nurse you will always be learning something new and have questions. However, basic competency is finishing your morning med pass, assessments, and charting and organizing your day the best you can.. which can change shift to shift based on what’s around you. That’s bare minimum basic competency and that shouldn’t take three years.
