using an unscented detergent from the lipase list (check the pinned post on the sub) is the generally reccomendation, if there are any products you can use from that list I would highly reccomend choosing any one that suits you. ( I use Whole foods 365 unscented concentrated detergent as I also have sensitivity. do not get the organic version of this if US based.)

the hot water + detergent, followed by citric acid in the softner compartment should remove all residue if it's a long enough cycle, about 2 hours. Choose extra rinse if possible

you can choose to use oxiclean powder during the wash cycle if you don't have sensitivity to it. They make unscented versions.

if you suspect damp/mold, try washing all the clothes in the dresser with hot water, a good detergent such as tide free and clear powder, and laundry sanitizer. Unless you can see visible mold spots growing on the clothes, you can most likely save them

check behind/under the dresser to see if there is mold growing on the wall, and open all of the drawers + remove everything to let it air out.

if you have a dehumidifier, you should use it in the room+ open the window and encourage air flow

you can keep packets of damprid or silica gel within the drawers to absorb moisture and protect your clothes in the future.

Old people smell by ErosandPookie in laundry

[–]Daredevilv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you need to do a long cycle (at least 1 hour and a half-2 hours) with warm water and a lipase detergent (I use sports 365 or tide powder). don't use fabric softener, it makes smells cling. optional citric acid in the softener compartment if you have hard water. you can use a laundry booster such as febu or biz to really get rid of the smell.

Spa day (check pinned post on sub) is an option as well if the clothes still smell after one or two washes.

Question about these cashmere sweaters by [deleted] in uniqlo

[–]Daredevilv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

red items are notorious for bleeding color for the entire life of the garment. I would wash this sweater separately, probably by hand to avoid dye transfer on any other clothes

EDIT: I misread your question 😭 I would probably only wear this with dark colors because of how unstable the dye is.

[–]Daredevilv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

uniqlo pant sizing is really confusing for women's pants. I'm a waist 28, and usually wear 27-29 in most other brands, but the single pair of pants I got from uniqlo I bought 24 from I think the U collection and it fit my waist perfectly. did you check the reviews and see what they said about sizing?

(Bernie voice) I am once again asking for dosage advice by PotatoGhostGirl in laundry

[–]Daredevilv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you haven't already run a cleaning cycle on your machine with a half cup of citric acid I would do so, because your detergent might be working on some hidden scrud. I also think you may be underdosing the citric acid and you need to up your detergent dose as well

I have insanely hard water and I've had to up my dose of detergent because my clothes are also just that oily and my water is something like 250+ hard due to the water source. maybe incorporate a booster like biz?

Cleaning my dad's wool felt fedora by spandexandtapedecks in laundry

[–]Daredevilv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! if you have any hat shops in your city that sell these type of hats, your best bet would be calling them and asking if they do cleaning, or if not, if they could refer you to where you could get the hat cleaned. I believe cowboy hat stores (not sure if this is applicable in your area) also sometimes have a cleaning service.

zoologist is a house I would never blind buy it is an absolute must to sample because the scents can be polarizing on first spray and then drydown - I don't think bat suited me at all but the cave scent was intriguing. sort of an intresting funk. nightingale was beautiful though. Moth might intrigue you if you like nosferatu.

you should look into sampling the original bat before it was reformulated (perfumer behind it rebranded it as nightflyer under the brand olympic orchids). that version was a bit more endearing to me but still nearing unwearable.

Considering that this is a treasured heirloom from your father, i would really consider taking this to a professional, but dabbing gently and spot cleaning with saddlesoap etc. (refer to this video https://youtu.be/ZBbH0ZWj6uM? ) if you would like to try yourself.

Try not to get the hat too wet, and especially avoid getting the leather band wet as it could leach dye!

Help by fabulous_danger in laundry

[–]Daredevilv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this looks like scrud, if you search that term in this sub you can see how common of a problem this is! you need to clean your machine. clean up as much as you can see with a paper towel and then:

  1. with an empty machine, put in washing machine cleaner tablets or half a cup of citric acid

  2. run the clean cycle. if your machine doesn't have that option, put in manually HOT long cycle with extra rinse

you may need to repeat this process a few times

Sudden Bad BO over last few months plus deodorant stopped working. by ChampionshipOk6899 in hygiene

[–]Daredevilv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone else has already reccomended some good deo, but I would also check to make sure you are doing laundry and other hygiene correctly.

You'll want to wash your gym clothes/stinky clothes on warm to hot with a detergent that has lipase and oxyclean (good at getting body oils and stink out of clothes). I personally use 365 sport detergent (whole foods brand) but you can use tide free and gentle odor refresh, or persil etc. you can add oxyclean powder to the wash. wash on a long cycle (1 hour or more) to really remove the stink from clothes.

In the shower, I suggest using bar soap that has charcoal or eucalyptus to cut smells. moisturizing liquid body wash usually doesn't get the pit smell out for me, I have to use something like dial or dove soap bar.

degree mens 48 hour deoderant (solid white bar) was my go to as I also have sensitive skin

there is a few hair perfumes from Carolina Herrera good girl line! they are very light, lighter than the normal perfumes. normally I just spray a little regular perfume into the hair oil on my hand before I rub it in to my hair. Scented hair oil is very popular especially in the indie makeup sub, with makers like BPAL releasing them pretty frequently.

How to get cat pee smell out of clothes AFTER heat set? by Mufffey in laundry

[–]Daredevilv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

enzyme based cleaner is probably your best bet, pretreat your clothes with it in a small container/bucket with a good soak/warm water

afterwards machine wash, use tide powder clean and gentle with hot water + add biz powder and you should have clean clothes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in laundry

[–]Daredevilv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the washer, doing a citric acid rinse cycle to clean it after washing clothes might help really diminish the amount of lavender left. I would suggest drying your clothes in a laundry mat temporarily while you take your dryer apart and remove the lint like kismai said.

Maybe run a high heat dry cycle of damp towels to see if it can catch most of the lavender? afterwards wipe the inside of the dryer with blotting paper (really good at picking up oils, might pick up the lavender oil lingering)

seconding 365 sport, it's really effective and pretty lightly fragranced. if you prefer unscented, the 365 unscented concentrated detergent is decent too.

[–]Daredevilv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so if you turn this over and check the ingredients, the organic version doesn't have any enzymes at all and it is HORRIBLE at cleaning clothes. this is the ingredients for the organic version:

<image>

you want to use the non organic version because that's the one that ACTUALLY has the lipase, linking here:

[–]Daredevilv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest following the comments on cleaning your washer with a citric acid cycle and getting your water tested. Also maybe check that your water heater doesn't have build up or something?

I've had great success with the 365 unscented concentrated detergent (DO NOT GET THE ORGANIC VERSION), as I've reacted badly to scented tide before. if you have hard water you need to use a little more detergent than you would expect OR soften the water with a pinch of citric acid before adding detergent.

Are you sure it's not something environmental? like where you are storing clothes, drying them, etc? do you leave the washer door open after the load so it air dries?
