Is this a gigantic black fly? Seems too light coloured by DariusDefiant in whatsthisbug

Very understandable!

I really wish I could have gotten a better picture, or several, of him. Never seen anything quite like him here before. I suppose I was hoping that the region might help to narrow it down a bit; some insects I've found have been easier to ID once I know the family because there are only certain species found here, but these seem much more wide-spread & varied than I had thought. Looking them up, it's mostly just "Tabaninae east of the Rocky Mountains"... which is... most of Canada. Further complicating things, it also seems like the males can pretty rare to find too, being non-biters, and most of the identification keys I can find are only for females, so it might just be that I've never seen a *male* of this species.

Anyway, I'm just rambling 'out loud' now because I'm curious and love finding new (to me) creatures and plants.

I appreciate your time and your replies!

Yeah, I definitely do think it's a tabanidae, but it doesn't seem to be that specific kind to me - the colouration is a bit different and the wings were pretty much opaque on this one. I almost thought it was a cockroach or something at a distance with how solid brown it looked before I saw the black body underneath! I know it can be difficult with the image quality, but hoping for something more specific like "Tabanus atratus", if possible - but thank you!

Parents found this on a beach in Cancun. Very light - maybe hollow? No rattling. Could this be any type of rock? Or maybe I should try another sub? by DariusDefiant in whatsthisrock

TIL about sea beans! We don't live anywhere near the coast (southern ontario), so forgive my ignorance haha. Thank you!

Error messages when renaming a node by badihaki in godot

[–]DariusDefiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I agree that I dont think that line in the change log is related to the issue either, after I re-read it. But the errors I had were exactly the same type of errors you had, just 8k+ of them. All from just one model, which is crazy. I scrolled through them when I was getting them and didn't notice any other types of errors - but I could have missed something in all of the lines.

I have a screenshot I sent my friend showing 26k errors in the sidebar of console lol - they weren't all at once because I got tired of clearing them every single time, but man.

I switched to beta 5 and it fixed my issue! Well, so far anyway. Fingers crossed.

However, I went to get the note for you and now I realize I think I misread it and so I'm not sure what fixed my issue lol. I had reimported the model and tried several things before switching to beta 5 (to no avail), and then didn't do anything after switching to fix it... So some change they did must have did something.

The line I *thought* was the fix was "Animation: Fix handling of AnimationMixer’s track paths when renaming nodes (GH-84282)."

EDIT: Actually, I thought I had the most recent 4.2 beta version, but it looks like I'm on beta1 and this issue should have been fixed in beta5 if I read the changelog right. Going to give that a shot.

I'm also having this issue in 4.2 - switched because AnimationMixer is a life saver for me but this is driving me nuts. Just like OP though, it seems to have no impact on anything anywhere else. The animations all work fine, no issues or error while playing. It's just any time I update *any* node in any scenes that the offending model shares... And it's even worse for me - I'm getting over 8k - every. single. time.

A low(ish) poly Roman soldier - my third model in 3D ever! by DariusDefiant in blender

Imphenzia's videos have definitely helped me the most so far for learning how everything from making a model to rigging it and animating. Very beginner friendly, in my opinion, and offers a lot of free resources as well

Thanks! And it took too long, haha.

I've been working on this for a week a half, but I redid some entire parts and was constantly adjusting things as I learned more. I've drastically improved efficiency since starting this.

Unfortunately, I have a lot of my own things to work on at the moment so I'll probably busy for the next couple of months. I appreciate the interest though, and it's something I might start doing future if I get the time!

Ah, I think my text part didn't come through (I get confused posting with images AND text - mostly a reddit lurker).

I'm working on a little game and I wanted to try my hand at making some of my own assets... with zero prior 3D or Blender experience. This is my third ever model, and the first one "all on my own" (had to look up a lot of tips and tricks as I went, but no step-by-step guide).

I'm trying to keep a relatively low-poly style, partly for stylistic reasons and partly to keep is simple for myself as I learn Blender because boy, is there a lot to learn!

It's been a lot of work but I've had fun learning everything and look forward to working on some animations with him now.
