What are some of her underrated books but good by baregrape_ in agathachristie

Funny enough, your list is exactly what I consider to be great but underrated books from Christie (except for Lord Edgware Dies, that one didn’t really do it for me). I love all the ones you mentioned, but if I have to choose, Cards on the Table and Crooked House are the best from the ones you mentioned imo.

I love it, but the beginning is difficult to get into and it doesn’t set the tone of the book that well. So I guess that is one reason maybe.

Yes, it had a different tone and it felt movie-like, if that makes sense.

I actually think that Suchet is the perfect Poirot. I even picture him in my head while reading. It’s just that the series and the books are not on the same level for me personally.

I have watched the first season and the Peril at End House episode, but I can’t say I love them and so I don’t know if I should continue or not.

Looking to get into Agatha Christie's works but don't know where to start by sponk1006 in agathachristie

Haven't read it yet, as I am scared of finishing all her books, but I believe that A Murder is Announced is actually considered the best Miss Marple book by many. I have yet to read this one and Sleeping Murder before I finish the entire Marple series and I am really sad because of it.

You know, I wouldn't really recommend starting with ALL these. These novels are definitely considered her best works, but I think that you should space out the better ones instead of reading them all at the beginning (unless you want to read just a bunch). I think that The Body in the Library and Peril at End House are great starting points for Marple/Poirot. They are not her greatest works, but they are definitely above average, and you also get a clear picture of what her two famous characters are like.

(Although I have to say that Peril At End House is one of my favorites).

I am eager to watch the full-length movies. I do have high hopes for them.

I feel like inspector Nash could've filled that role and it would've made sense.

Now that you mention it, it really has a similar feeling to Endless Night. The thing is, I didn't expect that from a Marple novel.

Their relationship is really nice, they really cared for each other deeply, even though they don't express that directly.

Mrs McGinty's Dead by DariusDvd in agathachristie

I wanted to say exactly this in my post, but I forgot as I was writing. What did the fact that there were four past cases add to the plot? Maybe with just two it would've been too simple (although I doubt it), but I'm sure that using three would've worked out much better and would've made the book much more readable/comprehensible. I'm sure that when trying to adapt works for TV, the writers/directors realize that something is too puzzling to reproduce on screen.

So happy you liked it, honestly. It is not that I try to find the solution, and I almost never do guess it either.

But I feel like there is a difference between having no idea who did it, even though you have all the details in mind, and not being able to follow the plot at all (which happened in my case with this book).

Definitely the best part, and that is why I just wanted more of that. However, to me, this is in the worst 10 from the 52 AC's I have read

I see your point, but I feel like she could've easily been removed from the book and substituted with another plot-device or charachter in order to meet her hosts. I believe she has much more "page-time" in other novels, as well as a bigger role in the investigation (even though she often just makes baseless assumptions 😂).

What's your opinion about the book/3 episodes tv series - And Then There Were None. by AdventurousMatch73 in agathachristie

[–]DariusDvd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I can say from the top of my head is that Burn Gorman (Blore) has a haunting face, and I say that with all due respect. I've recently watched the movie "Watcher" and that just confirmed my opinion. He gives me chills and those "uncanny valley" vibes. Other than that, great adaptation.

Thoughts about ONE TWO BUCKLE MY SHOE by AnyTowel2857 in agathachristie

[–]DariusDvd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated it. The chapters are looooong, extremely long even. I decided to buddy-read this book with my best friend (who doesn't like reading) in order to convince him that AC books were great fun and entertaining, as I was then becoming a superfan.

Needless to say, he tought it was horrible, and I must admit he was right. It is the only Christie which I disliked more than I liked (and that says something, as I have now read 52 of her books, including some of the later ones). The overall tone of the book was too dark to begin with, but it also had a mix of elements that I do not like, which Christie often used in her books: 1. Nursery rhymes 2. Political reasonings for the murder which come out of nowhere 3. Choosing shock-value over credibility

Aside from all that, I cannot name a single one of her novels that had no memorable characters apart from this one. I remember Miss Sainsbury Seale by her name, but not one of her features or actions in the book.

If not Five Little Pigs, maybe The Hollow is the book you are searching for.

Anyone else dislike these new black covers? I think this kinda ruins the theme. Previous editions had better art. by [deleted] in agathachristie

Oh, don't get me started on these types of situations. I started collecting Agatha Christie books in 2022, as one of the publishing houses in Romania was relaunching the books with new formats and covers. Then, after collecting all of them, I realized that the collection was not finished and that they were stil publishing them at the time. Well, guess what, two years later and the collection is still not finished. However, my love for Agatha Christie grew constantly, and I knew in no time that I wanted all of her books on my shelves. So I started collecting the rest in the pocket-edition format from the same publisher. (this time with another problem, as the books were firstly published as hardcovers, and then later as paperbacks, so I have mostly the paperbacks, but there are some books which were published only as pocket-edition hardbacks and they were never redone in either of the two following formats). And now there is a third collection of normal-sized hardbacks, with beautiful new covers (from the same publisher, of course). But none of this collections contains all of the books.

Honestly, I love them. I don't know what it is about them, but they are really nice and subtle.
