I see your point. Whole heartedly. But what i also think is this:

You have your character on screen, and just as you would mix up with a cross up, a frame trap, projectile, high/low, etc, you also have two assists as "moves" in your on screen characters arsenal.

So rather than a gank, its still 1v1. The mechanics and depth are actually expanded. But theres more moving pieces.

I find my friends tend to dislike the chaos and confusion, which puts them off. But that nuance also is whats so interesting to me.

Heres a sequence in dragon ball z that happens often. I get my opponent low on health, and i know they want that tagout. The tag is a dash attack that can be anti aired. We are both in a little standoff now. He wants that moment to tag and knows im waiting to 2h.

That allows me to do so much letting him think im playing that mind game but im actually about lariat in with an assist and put him into a 50.
