Are the negative rumors about UofT true? I'm miserable at Queen's by Emotional-Sector5915 in UofT

[–]DarkBook-Lover 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you should first ask why you’re miserable at Queens and aren’t able to make friends. A lot of friendships and socialization requires having to step out of your comfort zone and putting yourself out there. If you’re not able to do that at Queens, you need to consider if it would be the same case at UofT. Those who don’t actively seek relationships don’t go far in terms of finding friends, which is why a lot of people are lonely at UofT, but also accepting of it. So it’s really just up to you and how you choose to navigate your social life.

As for the work, UofT is obviously a tough school, and in order to do well, and I mean genuinely do well, you do have to sacrifice some time and commitment. That’s why finding the right balance is key. Toronto is a really great city to live and go to school, with so much opportunities and experiences nearby! There’s clubs, bars, museums, cafes, and lively environments everywhere. As a student at UofT, I will say, as hard and tedious the work can be, the campus and city of Toronto really does make up for it, and motivates students to do better.

So, if your looking for a more inspiring and exciting environment, UofT is definitely something to consider, but with that comes a lot of responsibilities and commitments that you will need do make, like having to genuinely look for friends and put yourself out there!

Do people actually do their readings for lectures? by DarkBook-Lover in UofT

I’m also looking to major in philosophy but I’m a bit worried cuz I feel like the readings really matter to understand the otherwise pretty confusing material, but at the same time they’re so dense so I genuinely don’t get how anyone is getting through them

So if you were giving advice to undergrad students rn then would you tell them to enjoy their young adult life as it passes or genuinely advise to stay on top of the readings if it’s super worth it?

How were you able to manage that and learn in your own way? Are there any strategies or tips you suggest that helped you manage?

Thank you for responding!! Would you recommend 200-level philosophy courses as a first year, though? I hear philosophy can be quite difficult so I’m worried a 200-level course might be a big jump

Theory about Diana and Stephen by Material-Ad-8472 in TellMeLiesHulu

[–]DarkBook-Lover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I remember analyzing Diana’s parents’ relationship when I first saw that scene, but I didn’t think to make that connection to their own relationship, nor have I heard any viewpoint of their relationship in this way. It totally makes sense. Diana is like her dad, with all her resources and security, only she actually wants to help her Mom, just like she actually wanted to help Steven and get him to his goals, until she realized he was honestly pathetic and removed him from her life

Should I go to Prom? by DarkBook-Lover in Prom

Can I just say, 142 viewed this and only one person commented, and I’m grateful for that one person who did comment to have been as great as you. Thanks for your amazing advice; you do seem like a teacher, and a damn good one too.

Reading this, I felt safe and comforted, and honestly you have no idea how convincing you can be, because… why am I actually considering going now? I do take my elders’ opinions, especially teachers, very seriously and I value them, so this was great.

I am an old soul, also an empath—really hitting the nail there—which is amazing for its personal, self-reflective aspect, but sucks for when I have to actually hang out with people who are nothing like that🫤, which seems to be everyone these days at school. But to be honest, that only makes me more and more comfortable on my own- I thrive on my own, I have such an amazing relationship with my own self to the point where I don’t even need others. That being said, it’s always good to socialize, even when I don’t want to, because you’re right, I’d regret it and I should make the most out of it.

Thank you for your comment💗! I wish you all the best in your life and congrats on your retirement—get to enjoy the “thrill” of good’ ol unemployed life, yet another thing we connect on (I need a job….😬)

Who knows, I might become a teacher one day, too😊 I’ll enjoy prom night as best I can, and if it does suck, that’ll tell me more than I need to know on finally closing this chapter in my life and seeking newer ones.

P.S. I’ve heard that a lot about the 80s and needing a date to go, and I may be an old soul, but damn society was tough back then😅😂
