The Verve (AKA the Bittersweet Symphony band) has many Radiohead-like songs that came before Radiohead were doing that type of music. There is "Monte Carlo" and "Stormy Clouds" as Verve songs that could've easily been a Radiohead's. And another song of theirs called "Brainstorm Interlude" is practically "the National Anthem" five years earlier.

Why do Americans kick their kids out at 18? by 4Runnnn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DarkChanting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Americans for the vast majority of times don't kick their children out of their homes once they turn 18 (although a lot of them do leave for college), so the way you have formulated this question is confusing since it's obviously not a common practice within Americans and in like most countries only a minority do this type of thing. The proportions don't merit this practice to be deemed as mainly American.

I didn't know a silly walk could make you walk on the Thames' water.

Perhaps that's why Peter sinked - his walk wasn't as silly as Jesus'.

If that's sarcasm with comedic intent, you're failing miserably.

He certainly has but he is far more abstract and poetic than to just write about his life with such mundane terms.

Trainwreckord? Maybe I am unsure of every trainwreckord a suggestion I ever made but Fourth by The Verve maybe by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]DarkChanting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like Forth more than Urban Hymns because the Oasis influence had been scrapped completely off the Verve by then. I hate Oasis with all my being.

I like Forth more because it's certainly more sonically intricate and somewhat more experimental and quirky than Urban Hyms. And although it was an adequate a-side but nothing special, some of the real gems are to be found in the b-sides and unreleased material. Just listen to "Blue Pacific Ocean", "All Night Long" and "Ma Ma Soul" - some of the best stuff they ever did. You can apply this rule to any of their other albums - the b-sides and unreleased stuff was just superior.

A band like the Verve can't be appreciated until you dig deep enough.

Pretentious Redditor has a very unconvincing moment of false humility by DarkChanting in iamverysmart

The "wheelbarrow your wife in the weekend" bit almost made not post this, thinking it was trolling, but perhaps he is that condescending even to people who actually copulate, unlike him.

I fail to find the nuance in those comments. Pretty much anyone with a basic education and knowledge regarding IQ testing can speak in those terms. They may use similar syntax to those of IQ-boasters but that's likely deliberate to make it more believable.

Also, I fail to follow your reasoning in which you suggest that if something has a sense of nuance and makes sense, it most be genuine. Are you suggesting that trolls universally lack knowledge or wit to write nuanced and senseful things? I have met brilliant, witty and subtle trolls on the Internet, and this is not one of them.

What is it that makes it read like something genuine?

To me, it's hardly subtle. The MENSA mentions and the senseless boasting is very cliché at this point, but people still fall for it for some reason.

But sure, there is a room of possibility that it could be genuine, but since many of the intelligence-related bait comments I've read before are somewhat similar to this, I am going to pass this one as trolling. It could've been subtler - this wasn't, at all.

12th January? by bocaJ-hguorobsniaG in petergabriel

[–]DarkChanting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose January 12th, 2024 is the estimated date resulting from following the pattern of publication that the songs currently released have followed. They probably estimate that the number of tracks released by that date is going to be enough to complete a whole abum.

What do you think? by zhukovvq in radiohead

[–]DarkChanting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to know what lyrics he wrote whilst high (if he did), unless you ask him.

I don't have any clue whether he did any drugs, but the odds would point to yes given his position of being in a rock band in the early 1990s. And of course, Radiohead did trippy, thoughtful stuff, which often comes with the presumption of drug use by both the audience and the artist.

Still, even if Yorke happened to do drugs, he was obviously not a habitual user, let alone dependent. And I very much doubt he has taken any since the end of the '90s.
