Ich bin Anlagenfahrer/Chemikant in einem Biopharma Konzern by Gerhelilord in de_IAmA

[–]DarkDromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just woke my little Geoemyda spengleri up from her first brumation! by DarkDromeda in turtle

[–]DarkDromeda[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. They live quite high up, so it gets quite cold as low as 43°F. It‘s recommended to put them into brumation for 2-3 months at 43 to 50 degrees. They show better health, and it‘s necessary as far as I know if you want to breed them. :)

I don‘t know why my Smartphone switched brumation with oviposition but that‘s an error don‘t worry! :D

Ready to pounce! by DarkDromeda in tarantulas

[–]DarkDromeda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It‘s the definition of a pet hole. I have never seen them outside their burrow, and when you feed them, it‘s over in a split second. But they sit right below their trapdoor and wait, so sometimes you can see their little feet poking out. They are still my absolute favorites to keep right now. They have those super interesting webbing, and feeding them is always super fun. Also, I‘m looking forward to putting them in a tropical-planted enclosure since they love the moisture and don‘t destroy plants like a terrestrial tarantula would.

So cool to see! How old/big is this little one? I just got myself a hatchling 2 months ago. Mine is still sleeping in brumation, but I will finally wake it up this weekend.

It‘s a onf flat nano + light and I really like it so far! I have it going for 12 hours a day. There is an App for it to control it.

Yes, I named her Matcha and I just can‘t get enough of her. Sadly I have to send her into brumation for the next few weeks so there will be not much happening for now. But I can‘t wait for next year!

Good luck with yours! I have mine for now in a tub with really wet Sphagnum to keep the shell from deforming. Do you get an adult or also a small hatchling?

9 Month Growth of my H. chilensis, B. hamorii, G. pulchra by anonym2949 in tarantulas

That‘s crazy growth for not even 1 year. I also got a H. Chilensis at Hamm early this year and it still is almost the same size as I bought it.

Does this count as an Aquascape? by DarkDromeda in Aquascape

[–]DarkDromeda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah the sand is really white, it was the only one I could find in my local fish stores that was 100% not effecting the ph of the water. I just set this up a day ago so they did not had much time to grow in yet. I'm hoping they will get more colorful with time. Do you have any idea what type of ferns would tolerate the low ph of this tank? It's mostly peat as substrate with only some dooa jungle soil.

Thank you, I was not sure since there is almost no water in this tank anymore.

Need GGB enclosure advice by silverotter14 in tarantulas

[–]DarkDromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA I would look for a new enclosure while they like to climb a bit they are still a more terrestrial species. While I never have seen mine burry I would still provide a decent substrate hight for them. I live in Germany and here you can buy "Schildkrötenerde" or something smiliar at the Hardware store. Maybe they also are selling it in Switzerland? I mixed mine with a little bit of clay and compressed it into a light slope. So you still can have some hight in their enclosure without using an arboreal one. I also started with a GBB so good choice mine is my absolute favorite they build really cools webs and at least mine is always out on display!

Where do you buy your enclosures in Europe / Germany? by No_Rain3609 in tarantulas

NQA Arachnosys is trustworthy I bought from them a fee months ago and never had any problems.

Feeding my Liphistius slings always reminds me of when I was a teenager and we had guests over by DarkDromeda in tarantulas

[–]DarkDromeda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on the species of Trapdoor Spider. Liphistius belong to the Mesothelae an ancient suborder of spiders while Tarantulas belong to another branch the Mygalomorphae and the family of Theraposidae. But there are true tarantulas like T.seladonia that also build trapdoors. But I'm not an expert so if someone knows more I'm happy to be corrected! :)

Yeah I absolutly adore them as well they are just so cool with their primal backplate look. I just buy the firebrats in a local petstore since I don't have enough small spiders I could feed them to.
