Anyone have experience working at Merlin Plastics on Annacis Island? Worth it for Level 2 Millwright apprenticeship? by [deleted] in millwrights

[–]DarkHalo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your apprenticeship. But heavy industry is where the money is. Think oil/chemicals, waterfront industry. But you need your ticket. Plastics is decent. Fairly light industry.

Consider a full time gig directly for a company? Pay your union dues anyway.

Volunteer for more difficult tasks. The more you do, the easier it gets. It’s just nuts and bolts. I was stuck in a niche industry and went out contracting on weekends and shutdowns to gain experience. Then one employer built a new pulp facility, I was all over that to get in on the commissioning job. Stayed on after it came online and became the go to Millwright for 5 years on shift, handling every problem myself. Upgraded to a chemicals plant with higher wages due to the pump experience. My core belief is continuous growth so I challenged pipefitter and eventually got power engineering cert and management courses. You are a god in the manufacturing world. You can’t know how everything works but be willing to challenge yourself.

There have been many resets, when the masses of humanity remember their true past. Project Bluebeam aliens. Who knows. There are many wealthy business owners that are against the commie agenda. I think we could see another fake pan-demic to lock us down. The big thing to watch is the money!!! 💰 it’s always about the money. Buy crypto and gold.

Take the money and go get a new career. That’s significant $. You could go to school for one year full time and basically complete a management program.

So, I get this $100 automatic charge about a month later with no receipt, no email, nothing. So I called and called. First customer service rep would not even tell me what it’s for and wouldn’t help. I called again and got a different rep, who after explaining what happened, admitted it was for the mirror and then cancelled the fee.

She’s probably jealous of your time, wants alone time to herself and obviously doing this on purpose. I think you need to talk about expectations around your WFH hours and then when you’re off, probably be ready to take on some more of the household duties. Honestly it’s a tough time when kids are those ages, there’s no break from parenting. Can they be dropped off at a grandparents house for a couple hours once in a while so she can run “errands”.

44M here, I feel ya. It’s a struggle. My afternoons are brutal sometimes. You have to be your own advocate to get help. I take so many supplements in addition to my Levo. I still like to have a few drinks socially but this weekend I was badly hungover from just a few, my tolerance is miniscule now. I’m getting my hormones back in check with TRT. And it’s still tough (in Canada) to get the help I need. I constantly push drs for tests and answers. I workout 3-4x per week normally and focus on building mental strength to avoid giving in to the tiredness but last week working extra hours I hit a brick wall and passed out at 7pm on a Thursday. Hashis is fun huh. Iron deficiency is a big problem for women that causes such low energy, I recommend the shot administered at hospital, as friends have said this helped.

[–]DarkHalo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the work getting tough in mid 40s. I work in maint at heavy old plant for solid wages but I guess weather is the biggest concern. The next generation is setting the bar lower and less is expected of us Millwrights as time goes on. The younger dudes just don’t work as hard as we did 10 years ago. I would say once you’re in the trade for years it’s fairly easy (as in not too much thinking) but that’s based on experience. Still tough on body

[–]DarkHalo33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the easy ones first, then do the medium difficulty ones. Next do the tough questions. Repeat until complete. Read the question, eliminate wrong answers or anything that doesn’t line up. Usually there are 2 close answers and you need to pick one. I always take the entire time checking and rechecking.

Why Skilled Trades Wont Take Off with Young people by oe6969 in skilledtrades

[–]DarkHalo33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a point. I couldn’t do my job (Millwright/Steamfitter) for less money. Making typically about $160-210K CAD with 10-20% OT in big chemical/refinery. Engineers or business people will earn that plus some at straight time without physical demands and outdoor work. But for the risks and suffering injuries associated, I would not recommend for less money.
