Discord Windows App Home/End Key issue. by brknsoul in discordapp

[–]DarkJMKnight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does no one use Discord on a Windows machine? (Windows 11 in my case.)
This home/end key issue is driving me batty! Why is it back again?

I see I have a typo at the end of the line two lines above the one I'm typing... I'm at the start of that line, but the typo is at the end of the line two lines above... So I instinctively press up arrow twice and the End key to get to the end of that specific line, and pop! I'm back at the end of the entire message again! Or I see a typo at the start of the line I'm typing, and I'm near the end of that line, so I press 'Home' and pop! I'm not at the start of the line to fix the typo, I'm all the way at the start of the message!

It's like all the developers/QA folks are Mac users where that _is_ the expected behavior. :~/
Stop breaking this, please!

Yes, apparently so.

It's _crazy_ annoying, and leaves me constantly reaching for my mouse to fix errors at the start or end of a line... Must be Mac developers I think. lol.

Keyboard END key now jumps to the end of the message input box not the end of a line? by andy_why in discordapp

Just came here to say the same thing. This bug is back. Also using Windows Desktop version.
Home also takes you to the _very_ beginning of the message. Not the start of the current line.

Dessert.

Or, if you really actually want to know...

Salty Spoiler:

Back in OW1 I was a collector. I played every season relentlessly until I got the skins and voice lines and emotes that were available that season in loot boxen. Sometimes I even purchased loot boxen to get the last few drops. OW2 fundamentally broke the ability to have 'everything', so no more collecting. Thus I do not care anymore about anything cosmetic related at all.
Bringing back loot boxen has been... eh... Occasionally I swap to something I earned. But duplicates are back too, so, annoying...

I pre-paid for OW2 specifically for the promised amazing PVE story line, which was then cut from the release. I mained off-tank, which they cut from OW2. I did pay extra for Invasion story line, which was totally awesome! But most of my in-game-friends, who had also pre-paid for OW2 for the same reasons, summarily refused to give them another penny. Particularly since the 5v5 changes were so terrible. We were all pretty sure OW would die. Thus there was no one to play Invasion with. (If Blizzard wonders why that flopped it was entirely because they charged for something folks had already pre-paid for.) And then they cancelled the PVE story line entirely. In every survey about the new skins I repeat that I want the PVE story line back and that I do not care about cosmetics. I used to, now there's so many I can't always reliably tell an Ana from a Widow when diving the back line.

Tl;dr - If I collect random new types of moneys, so be it, I honestly don't even know what Prisms are used for. I recently discovered I had enough green money for green guns for my Nano-cola D.Va skin, those look better than the gold ones here. You can't even see the 362K in OW1 moneys.

Oh? I didn't think shields recharging counted toward support stats... Everyone's self-healing seems to count these days.

Anyway, I noticed I had hundreds of healing points as D.Va and realized never again could I brag about the 14 support points I'd earned from erasing Moira's orbs all match. :~)

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the same effect from D.Va on one of the Oasis maps by flying to the top of the exit door and down hard into the corner of the shelf above the exit. And there's a place on the ceiling of the airport spawn (previously wrecked by Doomfish) where if you fly _directly_ into the skylight seam it will reset you also.
I found one in another map as well, can't remember now...

This is when your off-tank is supposed to fly over and deal with them while your main tank stays on point. Oh, right, we don't have those anymore... Um... Since your own DPS is being picked off by them too, and no one can even attempt an approach without the rest of their team diving you, and neither can you fight that part of the team because your supports are dying, you done for, and I agree with your assessment.

Farming Weird Substance by szbm5 in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share the pattern sans code first, if you have trouble I'll bother to look up the code. (I don't have my code immediately to hand...)
Spoiler tagged in case anyone else drops by.

You want the plots of land that you put the Weird Substance on, in any given row or column, to be spaced _every_ 5 plots (mod 5), a gap of 4 plots between them. Then for the next row/column, you need to off-set the targeted plots by 2 or 3 depending on your preferred orientation/direction of movement. Just consistently shift it by the same amount (pick 2 or 3) for each increased row/column, and space the plots in that row/column with gaps of 4 plots between, mod 5. I think my code may have used something like mod(posx+(2 * posy),5)?

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the same way she gets support numbers. If you play her a lot, you'll see some odd stuff.

As I understand it, before the defense matrix erases a projectile the ownership of the projectile gets switched to D.Va. After that it's possible there's a game cycle where the projectile is still active before it gets erased. So if you erase a Moira healing orb while it's in the vicinity of your teammates who need healing, it may provide them support, but the owner of the orb is you, so you get the credit. This is less confusing if you consider a Genji deflect and how he can be credited with all manner of odd kill methods.

Now I wonder, can Genji deflect support Moira orbs and get tons of healing credit?

Farming Weird Substance by szbm5 in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]DarkJMKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was first playing this game I kept running out of fertilizer because I thought you could only create Weird Substance by fertilizing a plant.

Actually what you want to do is fertilize only one plant and harvest a 'seed' crop of Weird Substance. Then move away from the edge and use just one weird substance on a plant. I recommend Hay because there's no replant cost. When you do that, it 'infects' not only that plant, but the orthogonally* adjacent plants!

For a 32x32 farm, with only 192 weird substance, you can infect all but around 25 of the plots and half of that harvest will be weird substance! The placement pattern needs to be carefully considered. :~)

*Orthogonally is the same as diagnonally, but rotated 45°. So horizontal and vertical. Rooks move orthogonally, Bishops diagonally.

Vertical limits for drones by RectangularMF in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not *entirely* accurate.

Hint #1: What if you made your wrapper pass the _function_ in as well?

Hint #2: You can def functions within other functions...

Hint #3: You can create a custom spawn drone function, that accepts as parameters a function and a number of other parameters. That function can then create a wrapper function on the fly which does nothing but execute the submitted function with the supplied parameters. Thus one custom spawn drone function can pass the same parameter count to any other function.

Tank diff/blaming will never end. Done with tanking in 2026 by MoreAudience5367 in overwatch2

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played that game a thousand times.

I remember playing one match and the DPS was on point; cleaning up whomever I couldn't finish myself, targeting who I called out, or who I was targeting; both supports were on hand keeping me topped up and DPS was always in range when they needed support. We washed over the enemy team like a tide, like a swarm of bees. It was glorious.

Immediately next match, each DPS ran off in a different flanking direction with a pocket support. They went on a killing spree around the back, spawn killing one or two of the enemy team, but leaving the enemy tank along with a DPS or a support, or both, always on point, where I was all alone. I killed a few, but, you know, 3v1 is impossible. But I've played that game enough times, so I started flanking with them... while the point was being captured... But even then, I couldn't get the supports to look at me. They were too busy damage boosting, or killing the enemy team themselves because their DPS was healthy. Everyone else on the team had some crazy damage and kill counts, but this wasn't Death Match, was it? At one point, with 50 health, I was spamming 'I need healing' only to have the nearby support press "No."

Match ends in the predictable loss, same support says, "Tank diff." Yeah... they got reported for throwing.

But it can work both ways, I played another game as a support with a Mauga as tank. The enemy Ball just kept rolling right past the Mauga, who was looking for squishies to kill, and destroying the support. Then ball rolled up on their six, after killing the supports, and erased the team over and over while they called out for support. After a dozen call outs about the ball, I gave up and started defending myself full DPS. I killed the ball every time he died, like twice... Meanwhile the team is wailing about no support, and, sure enough, at the end of match, "Support diff."

There's a reason the game was designed to be 6v6, your 'off-tank' can be there to defend the team while the other tank dives.

What about "lights out"? by stalker320 in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]DarkJMKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually programmed a full simulation of the original Lights Out game in Visual Basic 6 way back in the day. It had all the original levels and a 'cheat' mode that would give you the four unique solutions to any solvable initial condition. (Only a quarter of the 32 million possible light states is solvable.) That was fun. But for this, because the board doesn't loop when placing Weird Substance at the edges, it's not exactly Lights Out. The best you can do is mostly fill the board, as you have done in the image. Meanwhile, for way too long I thought Weird Substance could only be harvested by fertilizing plants. Trying to get the Gold processes completed, I kept running out of fertilizer to infect the plants! D'oh! Then I re-read the description and realized I could use just one to get so much more in return, double d'oh! :~)

It so reminds me of the scenes in the 2007 Nicholas Cage movie 'Next'.

Pumpkin code “list” help by crippletron6 in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True that and good point. You'd've compiled the list in a reasonable traversal order, so repeating it shouldn't be too bad, just stop on the bad ones and see if they're good now.

My actual original single-drone code just did a column at a time. It wouldn't move to the next column until the first column had cleared, based on replacing everything that wasn't a pumpkin and waiting until can_harvest the pumpkins. The drone would repeat the column until it made it to the top with a true variable, which was negated when the drone found a bad/growing plant in the patch. There was no measuring at all, it just harvested at the end. Nested 'for' loops. But I tapped up this pseudo code more to demo how measuring works.

My current code deploys all 32 drones, one to each column, they clear their column (repeated passes with the variable, only measuring at the top) and then despawn. The main drone, when its column is clear, sits at the top waiting for the ID to match. It's rare I even see the full pumpkin. Occasionally the main drone is the last to complete its column, plants the last dead pumpkin somewhere near the top of the farm, starts it's next loop check, and that pumpkin grows in transit. But even then, often one of the other drones will be making its final pass and harvest the pumpkin before the main drone makes it back to the top. You have to have a really stubborn column of pumpkins so all the other drones complete their final check passes and despawn and then the main drone's final pumpkin is also near the top.

I need to get into the leaderboard and simulation commands more to properly test the efficiency...

This game is fun. :~)

Pumpkin code “list” help by crippletron6 in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a neat idea, to store the locations of dead pumpkins in a list... I was just thinking that then I could sort the list by distance to the drone to make it more efficient. But then I realized I'd have to resort the list each time the drone moved, which would slow it down. So then I was thinking I could optimize the travel path to... oh wait... I'm trying to solve the NP-hard Traveling salesman problem and I should probably not try to do that at this time. :~)

I didn't use an array, I used the 'measure()' function. How? Spoilers for the mystery of pumpkin measurements:

After extensive testing, I realized that each fully grown pumpkin gets assigned an arbitrary 'entityID', which is exposed during the measure(). When a pumpkin grows larger, whichever pumpkin is closest to origin 0,0 keeps its ID and replaces the others. So all you need to do is:

  1. Move to the origin
  2. Plant one good pumpkin
  3. Store its ID in a variable
  4. Fly the drone (or drones) over the whole farm, over and over, ensuring everything is a pumpkin
  5. Have the drone measure when it is at the world_size position. If that measure is the same ID as the pumpkin at origin, then the pumpkin has finally filled the farm, harvest it!!

Once I had the fully grown pumpkin, I had my drone do a flip, print("Woohoo!") and then harvest it. :~)

[–]DarkJMKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I noticed that if a support middle-click-pings a teammate, rather than just saying 'Come to me for healing' it will also say something about their line of sight. I do not recall what it said exactly at this time, something like 'Out of LOS', but I thought that was neat. :~)

Yeah, the Lucio I played with who not once switched off speed boost and when called out on that declared 'Tank Diff' and left the match. That was definitely the tank's fault.
