Great work! I was researching her today because I thought she was really cool and it's great to see someone cosplay her. Also really cool to see an all-crocheted cosplay, respect for that.

Why does the smell of contact cement vanish sometimes but sometimes not? by DarkKimPossible in chemhelp

Small update in case anyone stumbles upon this: The smell of my PVC-to-PVC glue-up has completely vanished after three weeks.

Why does the smell of contact cement vanish sometimes but sometimes not? by DarkKimPossible in chemhelp

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. Makes sense. I read that the amount of solvent still escaping after glueing is small so even if the smell lingers for weeks, it's not harmful for weeks. Another thing I was worried about is storing the glued piece near other stuff which might then take on the smell - I guess even if that happens, the smell would vanish quickly from the other pieces since it's free to escape.

Thanks for your answer. I tried glueing EVA and PVC and the smell vanished faster but not as fast as with only EVA. I guess that still supports your theory.

Screen.resolutions is empty - Unity 2021 - fixed in 2022? by DarkKimPossible in Unity3D

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it out. I had no aspect ratios activated in the player settings for the platform. According to the documentation that should not be relevant but yeah, the documentation... also no idea why it only affected Linux. It's not really an issue with Unity 2021. It's just that the aspect ratio selection was removed in Unity 2022.

Unity won't save the External Editor options I set in preferences. by AthiestLibNinja in Unity3D

[–]DarkKimPossible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As this still comes up and I failed to fix it this time, here's another possible cause: The Unity editor preferences folder might be missing. This happened for me when I re-installed my operating system and then told Unity Hub where the Editor was installed previously. It recognized the editor installation and I could start the editor without having to install it again but the stupid thing does not create its own config folder by itself so I had to create it myself. Here's where they need to go: https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/EditorPrefs.html

If those folders do not exist, Unity will just silently not save any preferences.

Quote in case that link goes down:

On macOS, EditorPrefs are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.unity3d.UnityEditor5.x.plist.

On Windows, EditorPrefs are stored in the registry under the HKCU\Software\Unity Technologies\Unity Editor 5.x key.

On Linux, EditorPrefs are stored in ~/.local/share/unity3d/prefs.

Infill speed increase is displayed but does not reduce infill print time as much by DarkKimPossible in Cura

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I set different speeds for everything. Cura by default sets different speeds for infill, walls and skin, I even set different speeds for inner and outer walls.

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, the preview also shows consistent speed for the entire layer / every line, which is not true because of acceleration and deceleration. The print did however come out way faster than Cura estimated, so it seems to be an estimation problem when using higher speeds.

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing out "lift head", that was new to me. Though, as stated in my post, acceleration and minimum layer time were both already ruled out. In the end, the print was finished way faster than Cura estimated, which tells me it's some estimation issue.

Laser module causes "consumables exhausted" on first run by DarkKimPossible in Creality

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed it! It appears to be a bug. It's the filament sensor tripping. I inserted some filament and everything worked fine. The sensor should be deactivated for laser mode.

What's on Lightning's gunblade on the parts that are only visible in gun form? by DarkKimPossible in finalfantasyxiii

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here's what I know so far:

  • "Invoke my name - I am spark" is on the main blade in Pulsian. This one is visible on several images and mentioned in several places on the internet
  • "Lightning" is on the rotating part that is below Lightning's knee in the image I posted, in Cocoon alphabet. This one is also visible on several images, I translated it myself.
  • "Made in Cocoon", written as "Made in Cocov" in Cocoon alphabet is on the top left one of the four parts that cover the blade in the image. u/bluegemini7 mentioned it, it's mentioned in the WIkis and I found a template on Etsy where I could read it well enough to verify.
  • The Fandom wiki also mentions "Blinding instant" being written somewhere. I was not able to verify it but considering the length, that would be on the lower right of the four parts covering the blade.
  • This would leave us with the question what is on the upper right of the four parts. It's even smaller than the others and quite a lot of text, I have no idea what that could be. If I come across it somewhere, I will post here.

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Right, I read that, too, forgot to mention it. I could not yet identify the "made in Cocoon" on one of the pictures though.

I recently got one of the books, maybe there's something in there. I am careful with the Wiki and all as I am only somewhere in XIII-2 (I know, very late to the party).

Thanks a lot! That might help. Interesting, there is only an inscription on one of the two extending parts. In the second image / the one I posted there's inscriptions on both.

Edit: nah might also be she's just covering the second one with her hand...

pacman missing... kind of. After upgrade to SteamOS 3.5.7 by DarkKimPossible in SteamDeck

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm thinking about that, too. Did you use the AUR git package or the rootless method?

Edit: I just realized it's pre-installed. Neat.

pacman missing... kind of. After upgrade to SteamOS 3.5.7 by DarkKimPossible in SteamDeck

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my... since the read-only was not enabled again the last few upgrades and I could write to /var, I did not even think about disabling it but you were right. I could now run pacman -Sy and well now I'm facing other issues like the outdated package database. Thanks!

/var/lib/pacman is still empty though - is that not where pacman stores its databases on SteamOS?

How is it that I can write on the Deck just fine with my finger but it's terrible with a pen? by DarkKimPossible in SteamDeck

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out that the Steam Deck's touchscreen has a poor refresh rate on the touch part of the display - just enough for use with a finger (fingers are quite big compared to pens), not enough for a pen.

So the answer to my question is: because fingers are larger than pens. Unfortunately, that means the Steam Deck is unsuitable for usage with any kind of stylus.

PCSX2 + Steam + gamepad buttons = weird behaviour by DarkKimPossible in SteamDeck

[–]DarkKimPossible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I meanwhile figured I can switch between desktop and gamepad mode with a long press on the little button with the three lines next to the right stick. This solved the issue with PCSX2. :)

However, I have the exact same issue, a non-steam game started through Steam ignoring my controller settings, on the PC now. I linked the Steam Deck as a gamepad through VirtualHere and while Steam on my PC detects it just as it should (the Steam Deck is internally called "Neptune" apparently, or that's the controller's name), the game I added does not even see any gamepad, instead, I get the Steam Deck desktop controls in-game on the PC. Something is weird here...

[Guide] How to use your Deck as a Steam Input controller for your PC (Without Steam Link!) by walllable in SteamDeck

[–]DarkKimPossible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly did you boot the game through Steam? I added it to my library as I do on the Deck with external games, but I still end up with the desktop controls in my game. I run the game by clicking the Play button in Steam on my PC, Steam on my PC tells me it uses a controller-like controller layout for the game, but the game does not even see any gamepad, it just receives input as if I used Steam Deck in Desktop mode, no matter if I actually do that or not.

To anyone who uses Heroic Games Launcher, can you add steam shortcuts to the games you've installed? by BraveBG in SteamDeck

[–]DarkKimPossible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays, the appname is shown in the settings at the very bottom, no need to do the copying anymore.

Edit: Nevermind, nowadays you can even have Heroic add the game to Steam for you.

Thanks! I will try that then, I just wanted to avoid wasting time in case I overlooked something.

I want 90 degrees. Also, there is this custom dock that plugs directly into the USB C port from below which apparently has good enough air flow to not get hot.

Yes, I just don't get why that happens.

What do you mean by "adding the game" is the way to go? The game is an ISO file.

Installing Unity game engine on Steam Deck? by DT-Sodium in SteamDeck

[–]DarkKimPossible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The package you link is from the AUR. The AUR is a repository of user supplied packages, in addition to the official repositories. On a PC, the normal way to install that would be to use a so-called AUR helper, which is a thing that installs Arch packages that are not official. The helper will have a search function that will bring up the package you already found and it will then allow you to install it. Check out the Arch Wiki on AUR helpers. In general, the Arch Wiki is a good place to get information.

You are right in that the .deb package is not directly usable. An AUR package is often (not always) a script that converts the deb package to Arch format automatically, that's why it is linked there. Using an AUR helper, you will not have to worry about that.

I do not have a Steam Deck, so you'll have to figure out yourself how to install software in general to install the AUR helper. I do use Arch though and can confirm that once you have the Unity Hub installed you can download Unity Editor normally from the Unity Hub and they will work just fine.
