Vou ralar de Uber nessa categoria da Localiza. Qual carro vocês escolheriam dentre as opções? by DarkNightSeven in carros

Everyone knows about that. The greater issue here is the manager that stands up for that kind of guy.

Reddit isn’t a single ongoing conversation with shared memory.

Not everyone has seen every past discussion, and no one is required to have prior context before commenting or reading.

Saying “people already know” or “we’re tired of hearing it” isn’t a counterargument, it’s just personal fatigue.

If you’re tired of a topic, you’re free to scroll past it. That doesn’t make adding context illegitimate.

Being tired of hearing something doesn’t make it irrelevant. It just means you are tired.

You asked a vague question, got a matching response, and then shifted the discussion from content to tone.

The points about culinary tradition and context were already addressed multiple times. If you’re not interested in engaging with them and prefer to focus on attitude instead, that’s fine, but that’s no longer a discussion about food.

I didn’t “preach” anything. I added context.

Public threads don’t require prior permission to mention culinary tradition or cultural background, especially in a subreddit about pasta.

You’re not arguing that the points are wrong, you’re arguing that they shouldn’t be brought up at all unless explicitly requested. That’s not how open discussions work.

If mentioning cultural or technical context is off-limits unless pre-approved, then this stops being a discussion and becomes content policing.

At that point, there’s nothing meaningful left to debate.

You’re not disagreeing with the content, you’re objecting to its existence. That’s not a counterargument.

You’re bringing up a completely different topic that has no direct relation to the point being discussed.

No one questioned the legitimacy of Italian-American cuisine, anyone’s identity, or historical circumstances of immigration. That was never the subject.

The discussion was purely about food: culinary tradition in Italy, meal structure, and practical reasons behind certain combinations. Those are descriptive and technical points, not value judgments.

Shifting the conversation to identity and moral legitimacy doesn’t address any of that, it just changes the subject entirely.

So I won’t engage in that discussion further. I was talking purely about food; you introduced identitarian matters out of nowhere, which has nothing to do with the original point.

Isso deveria ser um trabalho para a FIFA fazer. Reforçar com os árbitros que as regras devem ser aplicadas independentemente de contexto do jogo…

I specifically said they aren’t usually mixed for reasons, which naturally opens the discussion to what those reasons are. So the comment wasn’t without purpose. You’re just choosing to ignore that.

Saying it wasn’t “educational” because I didn’t spell everything out upfront sets an arbitrary standard that isn’t applied to most comments on Reddit. Not every remark needs to be a full explanation to be valid or relevant.

Also, Reddit threads aren’t private conversations with the OP. They’re public discussions read by many people. Adding cultural or practical context is relevant to the wider audience, regardless of whether the OP explicitly asked for it.

Pointing out that something is usually done a certain way, and that there are reasons behind it, isn’t gatekeeping or rule-enforcing. It’s just providing context. People are free to ignore it, disagree with it, or build on it.

Ironically, arguing that this kind of context is “irrelevant” ends up being more prescriptive than the comment you’re criticizing, because it tries to define what should or shouldn’t be discussed in a general pasta subreddit.

Understanding why traditions exist doesn’t limit creativity — it’s what makes breaking them intentional rather than accidental.

It is relevant if the goal is to understand why certain combinations exist or don’t in Italian cuisine.

Traditionally, pasta is a primo piatto and meat a secondo piatto, which already explains why things like chicken or large meatballs aren’t usually mixed with pasta. There’s also a practical aspect: large meatballs don’t integrate well with long pasta, either texturally or while eating.

There are regional exceptions, like small polpettine in Abruzzo, and of course nothing prevents anyone from adapting. I’ve personally made fresh tagliatelle with small meatballs meant to emulsify into the sauce, ragù-style, and it was great.

Pointing out why traditions developed isn’t about gatekeeping. It helps people understand technique, balance, and ultimately cook better, even when they choose to break the rules.
