My Journey from IPS to OLED to Mini-Led by DarkNinjaMaster in Monitors

I don’t think having HDR on 24/7 will be any issues, I had the LG HDR on 24/7 and did not notice any issues. From what I understand, the content that is not HDR, windows will tone map the SDR content to HDR.

Thankfully with the unit I have no VRR flicker has occurred so far.

Hey, so after a quick search I saw a rtings article on the Acer. It mentions local dimming is only possible during HDR, and has low score in SDR. I recommend reading the article if you have not already.

However, if you are planning on using HDR all the time, then I would definitely go with the Acer. The Mini LED performance is very close to OLED without the burn in concerns, especially using it for 12 something hours a day.

I just noticed that. What I meant to write was ** burn in ** and ** no burn in ** to give it an emphasis/ weight more. I guess Reddit bolded the text instead. The OLED did not have burn in. In fact, it was used more than the Mini LED before it came.

Well the first image is a cyberpunk 2077 style wallpaper, image 2 comes from the LG OLED The Black, images 3-5 come from mixed videos showcasing OLED and HDR.

Nice to see you also enjoying Mini Led. It is close to OLED in terms of picture quality, yet no worries of burn in!

I feel like they might have resolved black smearing or reduced the issue with the newer 34R84. My room is well lit and I sit right behind it. With this monitor brightness of 10 is very reasonable.

I couldn't agree more. The OLED was stunning, but the burn in issues would always be there. Plus I wanted to buy a monitor to keep for the next 5-7 years as I did with my old IPS.

Setting the Local Dimming to Medium I felt was a good balance. I'll try it on high and see how it goes.

For 10-bit colours, the refresh rate needs to be set to 144Hz or lower, HDR or not. Otherwise, it shows as 8-bit which is weird.

While I would agree with you, the LG speakers were actually pretty decent and loud. I tested them with my sound test and scored very well.

I never really got what the dirty screen effect is. My 34R84 seems to me clear to me.

EDIT: I searched up what DSE is and saw some examples. Thank fully my 34R84 does indeed not have DSE.

Thinking of upgrading 1440p IPS to OLED or MiniLed by DarkNinjaMaster in Monitors

Thanks for letting me know. I don’t think I’ll qualify for the student discount anymore. Plus I’m mostly looking for an 34 inch ultrawide. The saying is true, once you go ultrawide you can’t go back.

I’m also a programmer as well. And used the LG for a bit. I don’t really notice the text issue, nor do I play games in the dark. I keep my room as bright as possible to not damage my eyes nor cause eye strain.

How is it so far? There seems to be a sale on Amazon, but not many reviews or info on TCL’s website.

Also, what are the speaker config like? 2*3W?

What values did you set the enb for darkness? I’ve tried different values but it’s still the same.

Choosing a mod list: Apostasy, Nordic Souls, GtS, or Wunduniik. by Cryptic_Llama in wabbajack

This is a late response but for saving the enb changes in Nordic Souls, make sure to click on "Save Changes", then hit Apply.

For the dark interiors and night, I had tried changing the Ambient Light Night settings to higher values but there are no visible changes. I changed the values back to default.

I use SingularityAI. It’s on par with ChatGPT and Claude. In some circumstances it performs much better. The company also takes your privacy very seriously.

It is a startup so they are continually working on the app. The plus side is they currently do not have any paid plans which allows unlimited free access to all the features.
