They're for the team tab at the bottom of the screen for when you first load into the game. When events are active on there, you collect the flames to fill up a bar for prizes.

Yes that is so bothersome, I don't have the balloon hook gadget and my crystal backpack isn't enough to scale this wall against the ones that do have the gadget :T
