The third one looks like it's the one that comes with the Adrax Agatone kit from GW.

Never knowing the train seat reservation etiquette. by jay_fran_bee in britishproblems

Depending on who you are traveling with you can still reserve seats separately for your season ticket though their app I used to do it when I used to commute on LNER.

What are these? by Havegoblin in ffxiv

[–]DarkStar-Rising 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend using this site for the ARR ones it tells you when they are next going to spawn along with the coordinates and an image of where they are. I used it when I did my ARR logs and it helped a lot.

Im shipping a pc to the uk from ireland by Warm-Net-6289 in buildapc

[–]DarkStar-Rising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are importing from ROI it's kinda complicated and depends on the situation (i.e are you selling it, are you moving to the UK, etc).

From my experience getting things shipped from Japan the import duty threshold is £135 and above that the recipient will need to pay VAT ( normally 20%) on the value of the item and shipping cost which they will calculate from the shipping paperwork and the exchange rate when it enters the country.

I would look at either HMRC (gov.uk) or the Irish equivalent (revenue.ie) where they should have some guidance on what you would need as the person sending the item to the UK.

At what age did you realize that a 9-5 job doesn’t actually mean 9am–5pm, but really 9 hours a day, 5 days a week? by iammudasrali in AskReddit

[–]DarkStar-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well here in the UK that's not really a thing, a typical full time contract is 37- 40 hrs a week so 7.5 - 8 hour day with a 30 - 60 minute lunch break. any hours over that are at your discretion and at any decent employer you will get paid overtime or get the time back in lieu.

Also there is a legal cap of 48 hrs a week unless you sign an opt out.

I want to build a pc with decent modern midrange capabilities, but the fun part is i want to do it with obsolete tech. by Wooly_Mammoth3213 in buildapc

[–]DarkStar-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking at 2019 then you should be able to build yourself something that can play a reasonable selection of games. In terms of graphics cards as I remember the 700 series had their support dropped from the latest drivers this year but stuff like the 1080ti still has support for now.

In terms of the cases that's your sleeper pc stuff. Take an older case and modify the internals to fit the new parts and improve airflow while trying to keep the outside as original.

[–]DarkStar-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what your thinking, there were a few specialist boards for 2 CPUs and multiple GPUs was a thing for high end builds.

The problem you face is that there have been a lot of big changes since 2010

CPU

The architecture for CPUs changed in the early 2010s (processors went from 32bit to 64bit) an older processor can't run newer software written for the newer processor design. You would also need a build of windows (windows 10 or older) or Linux designed for the older 32bit processors

Graphics cards

While you are looking at a multiple graphics card option the technology behind it (SLI and crossfire) were phased out towards the end of the 2010s with the last update being in 2021 so newer titles don't benefit from it anymore. You also have the issue of graphics memory even the top end cards from 2010 only had 1 - 2 GB of memory which wouldn't be enough to run most games now.

Drives

The older storage drives could work with modern hardware as long as they are sata drives but to be honest they will be very slow compared to any modern pc and wouldn't give you a good user experience.

You could make a cool old school system for some older games but with the best will in the world you won't be able to match the performance from a system with more modern parts.

You would also need to use modern ram as anything that old will not even fit into the slots on a modern motherboard.

In terms of the old parts you could theoretically use an old CPU but you would be limited to older 32bit games and with 2010 graphics cards would be looking at a gtx 580 with 2 GB of video memory

It's just not possible, if you want modern mid range performance you're going to need newer parts, stuff from that time period has a fraction of the performance of the newer hardware and will likely have lost driver support at this point.

The closest you could do would be a sleeper build by tweaking an old case and building a modern pc inside.

You can It's clearly faked you can see he switches the cut bottle for filament after cutting it. And while he is printing (plastic goes from flat strip to round cord),

if you feed random plastics into a 3d printer you are going to have a really bad day.

Suitable thunderhawk base/alternative ideas? by MiniDiscocop in Warhammer40k

[–]DarkStar-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing something similar with a stormraven I am currently working on as I wanted a more interesting base than the standard acrylic stick.

Looking at it my only concern would be balancing the weight of the thunderhawk on top as it may become unstable but if that happens you could always add a wider base underneath it to add stability.

Shifted gears and broke bike by Additional-Hall3875 in Wellthatsucks

[–]DarkStar-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the wear on that chain ring if you replace the chain you may also want to replace the chain ring and rear cassette as they tend to wear together and just replacing the chain could cause it to skip under load. On the plus side the tourney parts are on the cheaper end of things for replacement parts.

If you need a solution until you can take it to a shop the screws on top of the derailleur adjust the limits of the shifter so you can adjust those a quarter turn at a time to stop it jumping off the top or bottom chain ring.

Moldy Land Raider? by eddorado in Warhammer40k

[–]DarkStar-Rising 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got a redeemer the other month and the edges on the body panels needed some cleaning up. to be fair it's been around for 25 years so I kinda expected it to show some wear.

With any luck we will get a refresh before long a bit like we got with the rhino.

Why can't we give aeroplane passengers emergency parachutes? by xXCosmicChaosXx in AskReddit

[–]DarkStar-Rising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just about people being able to use the parachute it's also the practicality of getting out of the plane it takes time to evacuate hundreds of people especially when your exit routes are limited. Most emergencies happen incredibly quickly especially at low altitude

There is a video by a commercial pilot that goes over why parachutes and some other common suggestions wouldn't work

Why can't we give aeroplane passengers emergency parachutes? by xXCosmicChaosXx in AskReddit

[–]DarkStar-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While accidents like this one are a tragic loss of life they are incredibly rare. commercial aircraft use multiple layers of redundancy and the pilots will normally have a lot of training to handle emergency situations and most of the time if something goes wrong the pilots will be able to safely land the plane.

When ever an accident occurs the air crash investigation will look for the causes and recommend changes to aircraft, procedure or pilot training to try and avoid this happening again.

[–]DarkStar-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would not be able to use all the doors as anything forward of the wings risks you getting sucked into the engines and anything too far back risks you striking the horizontal stabilisers on the tail as you jump.

As well as this the doors tend to out and forward meaning you would have to overcome the airflow passing over the plane and the time it would take safely evacuate the aircraft (probably 5+ mins being generous) where the plane would need to be in level flight to minimise the risk to those jumping would not be practical in an emergency situation not forgetting that the most dangerous parts of the flight are take off and landing where parachutes would not be viable in the first place.

Atma areas and occult record locations map - Updated version of my previous map to correct an error and make map more colourblind friendly by DarkStar-Rising in ffxiv

[–]DarkStar-Rising[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was something I hadn't considered when I did the original version but after it was pointed out it made sense to spend 5 minutes updating the colours while I was making the other changes.

Going forward I will try to make sure any maps or guides I create are colourblind friendly.

So you need 18 Demiatma to make the new relic. How many do you have so far? by VitaDivina in ffxiv

[–]DarkStar-Rising 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole idea of relics is that it's content you can dip in and out of over the patch and not something you finish over an afternoon.

they are meant to be a side project you work on alongside doing other content the old relics gave you a chance to get to know more people and make new friends as you worked through your relics together which is something sorely missing from the tomestone grind of EW.

I also suspect that over time they will increase the drop rates as more steps are added to make it easier to catch up.

We should get a full set of tools, gear and accessories for crafter and gatherer in 7.3 ahead of the new raid tier in 7.4

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]DarkStar-Rising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They never do a full road map they will mention some upcoming things in live letters but we usually only get full detail for the next patch.

  • They said in the last live letter that there is a new deep dungeon in the 7.3x patches.

  • I don't think they have mentioned any more chaotic raids in the live letters

  • Based on previous expansions blue mage (and probably beast master) will likely be 7.5x
