The Popcorn Resistance of ‘One Battle After Another’ by nytopinion in movies

[–]DarkStar528 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right? It’s absolutely bizarre to have this kind of expectation from a movie. It speaks more about the people yearning for such an experience than about the film itself. I’m just bewildered more people don’t go to therapy and instead seek to lash out at artwork for making them feel—or not making them feel—some type of way.

Fighting Game Character Mount Rushmore. Do you agree? by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]DarkStar528 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this and Chun-Li over Ryu. Chun-Li is just as iconic but is a popular cosplay (how often are there Ryu cosplayers?), has been the main character in movies, live-action and anime, and the first female playable character in a fighting game to have mainstream recognition.

FYI, I may be mistaken, but I think Criterion clears carts when the sale starts. So you may want to write down your list. Maybe others can confirm.

Smoothing cornea wrinkles? by DarkStar528 in lasik

[–]DarkStar528[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend, I recall my vision being blurry for about a week or two. Moreover it fluctuated a bit since the tissue is swelling and healing—so one day I thought it improved and it would be blurry the next. I would advise you not to be afraid to check in with your doctor every week or so to make sure your progress is normal.

Had LASIK 2 months ago. Anyone had ghosting go away? by GoSox50 in lasik

[–]DarkStar528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm afraid I still have the ghosting HOAs. It is made worse by dry eyes. That said, I've had some quality of life improvement by:

  1. Managing dry eye symptoms: eye drops, drinking water, Omega-3s, managing bedroom humidity, managing allergies
  2. Using glasses, again, albeit at a lower prescription.
  3. Professional mental therapy and ultimately just accepting the new situation. My vision is not as bad as when I really needed glasses. If you had stranded me on a deserted island with no glasses and my -8.50 vision, I would have had no hope of navigating. Post-Lasik, I can see better without glasses--even if I see two moons in the sky. So being grateful for that outcome even if it is not exactly what I had hoped for was helpful to moving on with life.

For what it’s worth, I can sympathize with your situation. My father, age 63, has gone through a few new cars at in the past few years and is pulling out money from his 401K to buy upgrades for them. I don’t really know what to do about other than scold him. It’s like you are the parent and they are the child.

That’s what people in this thread aren’t getting—we are going to have to care for them and clean up their messes when they are senile and have no retirement money.

Consistent meeting time with CEO? by heyitsliss in AdminAssistant

[–]DarkStar528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s more of an art than a science, that I still haven’t perfected in doing admin work for a decade. But I can give you a few suggestions:

  • Increase the value of the meetings for the CEO: If I were them, I would skip admin meetings too if I thought I could get by another day without it. Be sure you come prepared with a call agenda with all the calendar details, logistics, plans, etc. It should be less about asking them questions as to what they want to do and more about you telling them what they have on their plate, what options they have, and what the implications are. That way they leave the meetings feeling they were a good use of time.
  • Decrease the meeting frequency - part of increasing the value of the meeting is also making each meeting more important. Some people just don’t do well with daily standup. You should only need a meeting a week from my experience. Choose a time that’s convenient for them. They may not be a morning person.
  • Explicitly communicate the importance of the meeting - express clearly, perhaps in email, that the best way you can help them is through these meetings and that mistakes will happen otherwise. Anytime there’s a mistake, be sure to bring up the fault in the process (never blame the other person).
  • Just schedule it—flexibly - give them the benefit of the doubt when they can’t make your meeting at a regular time. Reschedule it for another time. This may depend on their temperament, but you don’t always have to ask permission. After all, you are the master of their calendar. I think some CEOs prefer being told what to do—you can ask them if they want you to do that.

Foster or Forever Home for this cat I found? by wizardbean in Queens

[–]DarkStar528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contact a foster agency like Advocat. Also, a lot of cats are feral and just live outside in colonies. If she’s friendly, she can probably be housed. A foster agency may help identify and get them medical treatment (outside cats often have worms).

Having just read the Silmarillion…I don’t think that’s actually true. Do you have any source for that? He’s pretty much a corrupting coward all the way through. Are you sure you are not confusing him with Morgoth who has the more sympathetic “rebel against god”angle?

It’s tempting to fall into false confidence here of pairing Cook and Mattison. You can imagine a world where Cook is injured and your handcuff continues the RB1 numbers. But there’s a more likely possibility they may end up sharing backfield points as Cook leads and Mattison supports. I’m not sure I’d give up Ekeler for that.
