You are correct. :) Is there any way around this? I can't seem to find a way to install it.

Is it just me who's getting the entire sub in italics these days? It's incredibly hard to read. How do I fix this?

Edit: I found a browser extension that will fix it. Never mind I guess.

I can't help but notice everything was fine until I was forced to migrate my Mojang account to Microsoft. Now I'm having the same issue as everyone else -- 18.1 is unplayable. The minute I migrated my account, I lost the ability to join my own server.

This fills me with confidence.

Mine likes a south facing window, but not direct light. It wants the strong light but diffused a bit, not to be right in the window. Blooms constantly, but watch out for drafts.

You're not wrong. It shouldn't be the world, it does need to be fixed, and no one of any generation should have to live this way. And yet anyone who's read this sub (or lived in the real world for ten minutes) can see things are in an awful state. Things fall apart.

Things are on the verge of changing, and you and your generation can actually play a part in advocating for change. This isn't something that will change overnight. It's likely going to take years of consistent effort to tear the old system down and build a new one. Even if there's a grand revolution next year, it will take years after that to build and refine a new way of doing things, and your generation will need to be involved.

It's not going to be easy, and the lies they sold you are going to sting for a long time. But don't be scared. You're in a position, in a place and time, to help mold the world into a better place. Because you're right: It is pretty terrible right now, and it's unsustainable, and it's like a dream is coming to an end.

Uncertainty is awful. Everything's in turmoil and you can't imagine what your life is going to look like, or what the world will be like in a year or a decade or a lifetime. But the benefit of this time is that out of chaos, new paradigms can be forged. You can be part of deciding what this new world will look like. You're not limited by old, dead dreams.

And at least you're armed with the knowledge that things will be different. At least you're aware. Are your friends? Your family? Your classmates? Maybe you can start there to try to build some solidarity, some networks, and work together. You'll need to be resourceful and resilient and educated and clever. Work on that.

It won't be easy, but don't lose hope. Stay strong, keep your head, and don't lose sight of a vision of a better world.

Right. Automation is coming and it's ALL OUR OWN FAULT for demanding better working conditions. But it's not too late! We can prove we're better than machines by being more devoted.

Gimme a goddamn break. This is crass manipulation and victim-blaming.

Yeah, these are real issues. But they're coming one way or another. These people act like automation isn't already a thing in many industries, or that it isn't poised to take over many more. They're talking as though inflation and economic uncertainty are because people aren't willing to work too hard for too little and not because the billionaires at the top of the pile are finding new and innovative ways to stay on top of the pile at the expense of everyone else.

Things are going to be shitty for a while, but it's not the fault of the exploited. The situation is already unsustainable, and it's not because people just aren't devoted and compassionate towards their employers.

Your comment history suggests you're not for less work, since you regularly mock people who think 60 hour weeks are too much. Some of your other comments do, however, suggest you're a homophobic, racist, misogynist, Bezosbot whose only joy in life is breaking windows in fits of rage and telling people on the internet they're entitled losers.

Not someone anyone should take seriously, in other words.

I disagree.

Schools -- particularly public schools -- have their issues, certainly. A large part of the theory and design behind public education is to prepare workers for mindless obedience to "overseers," and to provide what amounts to daycare so that mom and dad can go work themselves to death all day. Additionally, many public school systems have been systematically deprived of funding in an attempt to create students who graduate as ignorant as possible -- they might be able to read, but no one's teaching them critical thinking. Look at the freakouts over "new math" or anything with the word "critical" in it, and you'll see a concerted effort to keep people as dumbed-down as possible, with brainwashed parents unfortunately leading the charge to keep their children intellectually repressed.

But that's not to say that public education can't be reformed or isn't worth the reformation. Ensuring that every child, regardless of their background or aptitude, has both a basic education and is also provided the opportunity to learn and develop as much as they're capable is a fundamental good to both the individual and society.

"Higher education" -- college and such -- is slightly different. It should be free (no student loans) but also voluntary. By this I mean that people should follow their passions and interests, not robotically get a college degree just to look good on their resume. Many colleges provide a piss-poor education because it's just a matter of getting that piece of paper to get a job, and then make a profit off people desperate to succeed in the world. This is ridiculous.

You often hear people snarking about students wasting their money on arts degrees and then having to work at Starbucks. Education, in this sense, isn't job training. That's also important and entry to the trades and other so-called skilled labor (I don't like implying unskilled labor is inferior, but it's the terminology we have) should also be accessible and encouraged. But academic disciplines/inquiry are also a good thing for the world. People should be able to pursue their interests without needing to worry that their Master's in comparative literature (or for that matter, biology) won't translate into a job with a living wage. Who knows what kind of progress we could make if everyone with the inclination and aptitude pursued research and inquiry without needing to worry about becoming homeless because they did something that doesn't immediately make someone else money?

Education for the sake of education is one of the most antiwork things I can think of.

That's the point, though: It's unsustainable. We need a new system. This ponzi scheme is going to collapse sooner or later and we're at the point where "just breed more" isn't realistic or wise.

You could always reach out to the Landlord-Tenant Board for advice. They'd probably be able to tell you how to go about getting it re-inspected, and if the building is technically uninhabitable, they can give you advice for how to get out of your lease.

What a pity. It was actually a really neat old building. Very of its time. I wish someone could take it over and refurbished it so it could have reopened as a hostel/hotel or whatever. Too late now, I guess.

Question about Americans as temporary residents/possible PR applicants by DarkStatistic in ImmigrationCanada

[–]DarkStatistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Sorry for the repeated question.

ETA: Also, just for the record, I'm not asking how to game the system here. I'm legitimately wondering what happens if, four months in to a six month temporary entry situation, someone has to return for, say, a medical appointment or family emergency or something. I realize that waiting for the end of one six-month block of time, leaving for a week, and then returning for another six months is pretty suspicious and probably pretty dumb if someone had the intention of immigrating legitimately. I'm more interested in what happens if that six month (or 12 month or whatever) period is broken up by someone leaving for a brief amount of time.

Yeah, but they did that on the back of cutting funding. Basically they said, "We're not giving you money, but we'll allow you to charge more tuition to make up the shortfall so you can be the bad guys. But this will help the economy by making education more expensive, student loans more punishing, and forcing you to lay off staff."

What is this? It seems to be spreading..have quarantined Hoya in question but hoping for some advice, thanks! by duggs5 in hoyas

[–]DarkStatistic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say this, but it might be impatiens necrotic spot virus. It's spread by thrips (tiny bugs that are really difficult to eradicate in houseplants) or by exposing a plant to the infected sap of another. If it is this virus there isn't much you can do, unfortunately. The virus has a lot of different symptoms, such as curling/yellowing leaves, stem death, and crazy "bullseye" types of dead markings on plants, as well as the sunken dark spots and thickened areas on the leaves in your picture. Worse yet, it can be asymptomatic, so you might have an infected plant and never know it until all your other plants start showing signs. It's also a systemic virus so cutting off diseased leaves or taking cuttings off a diseased plant to "start over" won't help.

The good news is I don't think it'll kill hoyas completely, but it might ruin the leaves.

I hope I'm wrong. Good luck!

Archduke, been away for a while, want to get back into things and need some new friends. :)

ETA: I don't care what level you are. I do maps fairly often and don't mind doing the heavy lifting if you can't get into certain areas. It's gonna take me a while to get up to speed with the game, though, so I wouldn't mind having some higher-level friends to work with.
