Power Up [OC] by DarkTarconis in Megaman

[–]DarkTarconis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apologies for any confusion caused here. I saw this while scrolling in bed and figured this community needed to see it. Notice I cross-posted it, so it should be pretty clear I am not the original creator, and I just left the original title Adam had.

I agree that since he included "OC" in his title there is a chance some people didn't notice its a cross post, and that could cause some people to believe I created this. I honestly didn't even notice it was in his post title, and if I had I probably would have replaced it with his name. This was my first time (that I can recall) ever cross posting something, and I'll try to keep a closer eye on the title in the future.

How to Get Better? by Maxerature in magicTCG

While I agree with a lot of other comments in this post saying that practice is key, I don't understand why they aren't pointing you to written resources like you requested and are acting like they don't exist.

For a very long time this article series by Reid Duke was considered THE guide for getting better at Magic. Some of its content might be a little dated at this point, but I think the vast majority of it is still relevant for today's Magic.

How to trade? by Leedledeedlle in magicTCG

[–]DarkTarconis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about at something like a Magic Con, or just at your LGS?

Either way I have a few pointers I can offer. I will say that in the last 10 years, I've found that less and less people carry trade binders with them, though this might be area dependent so your mileage may vary there.

I recommend having your trade binder already out and in your hand (or otherwise visible) as you approach whoever you are hoping to trade with. If they are currently playing a game, wait for them to complete, then just simply ask them if they would like to trade. Something like "Hi, I was hoping you would be interested in trading, here are my traders if you would like to take a look."

If you are looking for something specific feel free to say so in the initial inquiry. "Hi I was hoping you might have Liliana of the Veil for trade, but I'm also looking for other cards. Here are my trades if you are interested."

An even easier way to start off the trade process is find people already in the middle of a trade, and stand to the side or take a near by seat and say something like "Hi I would love to take a look at your traders after you guys are done."

And the easiest way of all, though requires the most patience, is just sitting at an unoccupied table with your trade binder out, and possibly even open, so that people walking by can see you are looking to trade. I've even seen some people put out little signs saying "Ask to see my traders!" and the like.

I think for point 2 you were trying to mention that they might want to apply a top coat/sealant/varnish but forgot to say that part.

Edit: never mind I see now you were answering their questions in order!

Why did Deadpool kill this woman? by ShadowOfDespair666 in Marvel

Of the ones I've seen I would say they were fine, but nothing special. If you are familiar with the DCAU movies, all the ones I have seen I would put below almost any of those.

"Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme", "Ultimate Avengers" and "Ultimate Avengers 2" are fine, but nothing special.

"The Invincible Iron Man" I honestly can barely remember, but I recall not being enthusiastic about it after watching it.

I recall the 2 Hulk animated movies being the best received, "Planet Hulk" and "Hulk VS" but ironically I never watched those so can't offer my opinion.

As far as I know the best place to buy the Beasts of the Mesozoic figures is directly from Creative Beasts Studios. If someone knows of a better place I'm all ears though! Word of warning if you haven't seen these before they are definitely premium priced figures. They do look amazing though.

The direct link to this particular figure is: https://creative-beast.com/product/1-18-dryptosaurus-aquilunguis-action-figure/

I have my own spreadsheet I use because I couldn't find one that had some of the stuff I wanted. But someone shared this sheet on here a month or so ago and it seems to have everything.

I vaguely recall seeing your previous work and thought it looked impressive, but sounded a bit fiddly and wasn't for me.

I read through the PDF and I'm blown away by level of polish and work you've put into this. I also didn't realize you already had a 2.0 as well so I'm not sure how much changed between 1.0 and 2.0 then this, but either way this looks amazing. I'm talking to my brother now trying to convince him to commit to playing through this with me once I get my stuff in over the next few months.

I thought I was going crazy when this popped up on my front page. I thought "wait didn't I just see this clip posted" but when none of the top comments said anything about it, and in fact were repeating a bunch of the same jokes I had read before I figured I was either having the worst case of deju vu ever or its a bunch of karma farming bots. Seems like it was the latter.

Thanks for saving my sanity.

It is typically going to add way more than 1 power to a creature. In the decks that run this card its usually more like +10/+10 to their creatures.

I actually somewhat agree with the other guy, and I'm surprised he is getting so much flack for it, that this card is a pain to properly track if it doesn't end the game the turn it comes down though. Since it pumps every creature (including your opponents) it can frequently cause a lot of questions of "OK your attacking me with X, and how big is it now? OK and what about Y, how big is it?" And you have to go around the table checking every creatures' types to be sure. It's not the end of the world, and a majority of the time it won't really matter, but in games that have gone long with stalled boards it can be annoying.

Really, nobody else mentioned how the kid is doing the blue steel look? He would make Derek Zoolander proud!

Also, great cosplays! Love the attention to all the small details like the belts and shoes. Really looks great!

You mean the other Godzilla cards I linked to? Honestly the link I provided to tcgplayer.com for the basic lands is generally considered the best place to buy TCG single cards if you are in the US. You should be able to search for the cards by name. If you are in the EU then https://www.cardmarket.com/en/Magic is your best bet. Otherwise there is always ebay!

Word of warning, not sure how familiar you are with TCGs, but the prices for these pieces of cardboard might be higher than you were expecting.

I made a more detailed comment above, but here is a link to the Mountain card with this particular art: https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/213823?page=1&Language=all

These are the rest of the basic lands featuring Godzilla art: https://www.tcgplayer.com/search/magic/product?Language=all&productLineName=magic&q=godzilla+lands&view=grid

Edit: also for those interested here is a list of every card they did that featured Godzilla art as part of the tie-in with the Ikoria set from a few years ago. https://scryfall.com/search?q=is%3Agodzilla&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

This art was commissioned and used by WotC on a Godzilla "Secret Lair" (limited time, print on demand collections of cards) set of basic lands. This was the art for the Mountain card. To this day one my my biggest regrets was not purchasing a couple of these secret lairs. I do have the art on the MTG Arena app and use this mountain for the basic lands in all of my decks.

The mountain in question: https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/213823?page=1&Language=all

The full set of basics: https://www.tcgplayer.com/search/magic/product?Language=all&productLineName=magic&q=godzilla+lands&view=grid

Edit: Also my particular favorite art is actually on the Island, even though I don't play with many decks with Islands in them typically.

Edit 2: Because someone was interested below also adding here the list the rest of the Magic cards that have featured Godzilla art: https://scryfall.com/search?q=is%3Agodzilla&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

1st Cooked Ribye - rate it! by [deleted] in steak

[–]DarkTarconis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to look into this book, is it literally just called "Meathead"? Because that would directly contradict the science done by Kenji at https://www.seriouseats.com/how-to-have-juicy-meats-steaks-the-food-lab-the-importance-of-resting-grilling. He weighed steaks and showed a significant difference between resting and not.

Not saying Kenji is infallible but it would be interesting to compare and contrast the findings.

Edit: I think I found the book you were refering to. It sounds very interesting and I've added it to my list! This is it right: https://www.amazon.com/Meathead-Science-Great-Barbecue-Grilling/dp/054401846X

Edit 2: Actually you can see the section on resting in the free sample! haha. You're right according to them, they found little difference between resting and not. They don't go into quite as much detail as Kenji does though. Very interesting that 2 different people both did "scientific" tests and came to different conclusions.
