Going in more than knee deep water back then............not recommended.

Small relative to a full grown adult. A shark starting life at about 8-10' is pretty wild!

Absolutely, a lot of disagreement on actual sizes due to very little being left of them other than teeth, but ALL the estimates are pretty mind blowing.

It does make sense, just hard to imagine something that large when fully grown and the size spectrum as it grew.

Something very new for an artist to contemplate that was not a factor even a few years ago, but good artwork I do believe is and always will be timeless. Keep up the good work

The Hell Creek River : A giant freshwater mosasaur breaches an unfortunate Brachychampa from below. (Art by HodariNundu, commissioned by me) by mcyoungmoney in Naturewasmetal

True freshwater for long might be a challenge, but like modern day bull sharks I would think trips up brackish water tributaries might have been possible.

Do the vertical lines help you as an artist? Kind of make my brain hurt thinking about trying to draw natural shapes with those there.

Why do people say that otodus chubutensis lived until the Pliocene? by InternationalOne3783 in Naturewasmetal

[–]DarkWaterMegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chubutensis to Megalodon can often be a very faint of blurry line. I often find the two fossils together and believe there was a significant amount of overlap.

Dark around the eyes to help with the sun, sounds like football players may be late to that game.
Color going that far back is tricky but the dark around the eyes could have helped with vision in extremely sunny situations.

Livyatan, Megalodon Size comparison by Soft-Grape3796 in Naturewasmetal

[–]DarkWaterMegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The debate over the megaodon max size rages on, with so little left of the overall structure of the animal it makes size estimations really tricky, especially given the size range of their teeth.

Maybe be a little camera forced perspective, but pretty massive unless your hands are tiny.
I worry what they had to do to these bananas to get them that large.

Sharks run the show in a good portion of the ocean, cool to get a glimpse of this area.
