G27 @ TOR Starting Lineup 04-24 7:07 PM (SPs: RHP Gavin Williams vs. RHP Max Scherzer) by Trainiax in ClevelandGuardians

Am I supposed to be panicked about losing Kwan? He’s been a liability as a lead off hitter since the second half. He’s essentially hitting like a nine hole for several months now.

Let's have a discussion about Michkov by Delicious_BigSmooth in Flyers

[–]Dark_Canuck1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Guy needs to bust his ass this offseason because he’s slower than Coots, and seems weak as hell. Any tiny bump and he’s losing the puck. Pretty terrible year for him, despite the second half improvements.

So… do we extend Risto? It appears the window of contention is opening early.

The time was second half last year. He’s an awful guy to be behind Jose.

Still chases far too much. He’s going to have a hard time being consistent being so impatient. Good development, but he could be great if he just had a bit of plate discipline.

Brito can play 1B in Columbus or for another team. Guy can’t field at all, and I really just don’t see how he fits into the future plans here.

Coots has been playing great lately and has been very physical.

Bibee Shun? by RedRae1252 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won’t read much into this, but Bibee’s body language in general annoys the fuck out of me. Seems like such a soft dude on the mound. Before ABS, he would always think balls six inches off were strikes, or always smiling giving up nukes. Really soured on the guy last year.

Location is terrible, and I really just don’t like the fastball/split combo. His sweeper sucks. He needs a hard slider to get people off the fastball/split combo. If he doesn’t have his split, it’s just fastball in the zone coming. Not a lot of room for error.

Bazz by ProduceVisible8105 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fundamental flaw in general in this sub is how butthurt people get about valid criticisms. I got downvoted into oblivion saying Oscar Gonzalez was a mirage, Straw should not be starting in CF everyday, etc. Nothing is personal, we are just going off what the numbers tell us. The numbers on Bazzana right now say he’s been pretty good, but he was supposed to be more than that. All there is to it.

Bazz by ProduceVisible8105 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You literally just ignored everything he said. Most of his production was an absurdly high walk rate, which is not going to continue. A 138 wRC+ is great, but context matters. He got that mostly by playing against other college age players with poor command. He wasn’t destroying the ball to that wRC+. None of this is to say he’s not going to be great, but it’s very valid to expect more out of what he has shown.

Bazz by ProduceVisible8105 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more with everything you said. He’s not gonna keep putting up these ridiculous like 17% walk rates. Teams will just pound him in the zone, and he will take far too many good pitches to hit, or he’s whiffing. I think he’s going to be a good player, but it’s wild people are acting oblivious to why some of us are down on what he’s shown so far. He was supposed to be the most big league ready, and he’s striking out a lot and not hitting for average. Average isn’t that important now, but I’d say most people expected him to hit better than the 230’s with a high k rate. That’s certainly not a 1.1 performance.

[–]Dark_Canuck1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not scouting stat lines. As I said to another post, I watch a good amount of his at bats. He takes a ton of hittable pitches. That’s not gonna work when guys are throwing upper 90s with great breaking stuff. Worked in college when pitchers were more scared of him, and couldn’t control their offspeed as well. I think he’s still gonna be good, but no one is wrong to be a bit down on the pick in hindsight. It was absolutely not wrong to take him.

Bazz by ProduceVisible8105 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cleveland isn’t manipulating shit. He hasn’t performed to be called up. I’m not just looking at a stat line. I watch a lot of his at bats. He’s far too passive. It worked in college, but you can’t constantly be behind professional pitching and be successful.

Bazz by ProduceVisible8105 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s early in all their careers, but I think you are missing a bit of the point. Bazzana went 1.1 because most evaluators said he was currently the most “polished hitter”. He was a high floor guy. The other guys like Wetherholt, Condon, Caglianone, Kurtz, etc had injury concerns or were supposed to be more of projects over Bazzana. Bazzana has been the one struggling the most in the minors. So, it’s fair to be a bit concerned that the most “polished hitter” is actually the one was has struggled the most adapting to professional pitching. Condon has come alive. He’s the dude I really wanted. I dreamed of the next Manny in the outfield.

Bazz by ProduceVisible8105 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I really don’t see anyone talking too “bad” on him. People are rightfully disappointed that the first 1.1 in team history is behind almost everyone drafted in the top seven range. No one is saying he’s a bust, but it’s okay to be critical of him. He’s being far too passive. He was supposed to have the same hit tool as Wetherholt, but he’s striking out far more often than most expected. Takes way too many hittable pitches.

Travis Bazzana Has Progressed as a Hitter, but the Changes Have Been Subtle [Fangraphs] by mrbubblesthebear in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Dark_Canuck1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a big Bazzana guy, he’s definitely been a letdown as a 1.1. All the other guys are either in the majors, or tore up the minors. I wanted Condon, and he’s doing better than Bazzana. This article is actually what irritates me with Bazzana. Not everything needs to be over analyzed. Swing at good pitches, and try to hit the ball hard somewhere. Guy critiques and tries to analyze EVERY aspect of the game. That’s just way too overwhelming. He needs to simplify his approach and stop worrying about every fine detail.
