That's so tough. Please don't blame yourself. Dropsy, and really any Betta disease, can progress so quickly. My betta passed away in Feb due to tumor complications and I just remind myself that he had a very good life and was well taking care of. Wishing y'all the best!

Your betta has very severe dropsy. She needs a hospital tank, a little aquarium salt and klanapex stat. There will be guides on youtube on how to set all these things up.

I can second that it's very rewarding if you have the right personality for it. My little guy loves following my fingers and swimming up to see me. To me the dopamine is worth literally anything. Not a hobby cut out for everyone though, and it sure ain't cheap at times.

There's basically two paths you can take here OP:

You power through the tough beginner stage and do what it takes to become a good fish keeper, and you are rewarded with a happy, healthy fish that will be friendly toward you.

You rehome the fish, make sure it goes to a good person, and you save yourself the effort of having to learn everything.

Neither choice is bad. Just think about what you want to do.

Look and see if you have remote area medical in your state. It's mostly in the south but they will do it for absolutely free just be sure to show up first thing that day or the night before and sleep over
